Mobile phone holder

Featured Replies

I find the lack of a proper place to put a mobile phone in modern cars very frustrating. In fact, I believe it should be a standard feature in all vehicles.

What's the point of supporting Bluetooth hands-free or AD2P if you cannot at least SEE what's on your phone's screen.

If anyone's interested, here's my approach:

After some ebaying around I chose a mount that can be placed in the cup holder. This way I can avoid windshield solutions that are unreliable and obstruct your view, as well as solutions that require dashboard modification and can cause damage. The Rapid has two cup holders in the middle, two in the rear and one large in each door, so sacrificing one for my phone is not a big deal.

As you see in the pictures, there is a slight problem with the gear selector, as there is not much room when selecting 3rd or 5th gear. I was disappointed at first, but then I solved it just by bending and twisting the holder arm a little bit!

The holder can rotate about the horizontal and the vertical axis and can be fastened to a variety of cup holder sizes with the special mechanism in its base.

The holder costed about €20 from a german seller. A little bit expensive if you ask me, but at least I have a firm mount that I am happy with.

In the photos, the gear selector is at 5th.

Main thing is that you are happy with it and that it works for your needs.

From your pics, this approach appears to involve losing your main cup holder, as well as being in punching distance of the gear stick.

I also find those generic clamp-style holder rattle.

That's why I went for the Scosche magnetic mount (having previously had the Skoda genuine cup holder phone cubby).

Yes, that's the stock one, which is very nice, but if your phone is 5.5" like mine, it doesn't fit.

Also, it's useless for navigation, video playback etc as half the screen is covered.

Also, my holder does not rattle (yet).

All very true - nothing bigger than an iPhone 5/5s/5c will fit in the Skoda one, and it is designed purely as a handy phone storage compartment, not to allow the phone to be actively used while in transit.

Like Stormchaser, I too have this phone holder, but given 1) I'll be getting an iPhone 6Plus soon and 2) I want to be able to access the screen during transit, this unit is not practical.

My Scosche unit is mounted up by the top left corner of my Swing, in a good sight position and away from where it can be accidentally knocked.

It will happily hold the larger iPhone I plan to buy (and will also hold a 7 inch tablet without issue - I've tested this out)

Also, my holder does not rattle (yet).

Still early - wait until winter when the mechanism gets cold and brittle :)

It'll rattle more than a Skoda Rapid - oh, wait....

My iPhone 6 fits in it very snug but the wife's 6 plus won't [emoji57]

It doesn't rattle. I use BT all the time and do have an Amundsen HU for the rest.
