It's not ideal mate, but of all the things that could have gone wrong that's not a bad one. It's mind bending to think it could have contributed to your delays though. At least they can easily rectify it (vs turning up with the wrong lights or seats for example!). I only hope mine has likewise turned up without any major omissions. Did you think to double check it has arrived with - and still has - both umbrellas? Various stories on here of people only finding one and being told by the dealer they thought that was normal... It's certainly on my check list!

It's good to hear the 2.0 TSI is a nice unit, I can't wait to finally try it out in the S3 as opposed to the Octavia. Roll on Tuesday, and make sure you put up pictures. I can live vicariously through you until Friday, then... :D

Here you go Derv, apologies for the fact they are not fantastic - my phone is well known as having a rubbish camera.  Will dig the DSLR out later in the week.

Out of interest what is that black thing on the roof at the back of the car?

Looking sweet, I bet you're itching for Tuesday now! :) As philpix said that's the GPS; shame they couldn't make it look a little more shark fin if you ask me, but meh.

Weds morning was driving up A38 near Toyota and passed a transporter full of Superbs heading south. Alas, for me me at least, there were no blue ones on it :-(. But hopefully many people will now be getting theirs very soon.

Then that same afternoon, my dealer rang me to say that mine was now in the UK, reg number allocated and docs in the post. Finally!!

Congrats. to the increasing number of posters now receiving cars.

(I ordered an SE hatch last September - still waiting. Not the only one, I think.)

However:

What appears to have caused the most frustration and anger, expressed through this forum, is the lack of accurate and reliable information. Plus, for many of us, no idea where the mis-information originates - is it the dealer / discount broker / leasing company?; is it Skoda UK?; is it Skoda Cz (marketing, board, manufacturing, .....); VAG Group issues; etc.

Whoever it is some group is either lying or incompetent or both, and they've got it massively WRONG.  I think it is time for Skoda to put their hands up, come clean, say what the issues are and how they are being addressed. The present situation suggests disinterest and a chaos which is not being sorted.

Since order last September I have been given delivery dates of mid December (2015), early Feb, late Feb, early March, mid March - all now missed. A few days ago, I contacted my supplier, considering cancellation.  He agreed with my concerns, is similarly frustrated, and offered cancellation with immediate return of my full deposit.  I'm still thinking - I certainly would not have Skoda on my possibles list if buying now!

One of the reasons in favour of cancellation is "If Skoda are such rubbish before delivery, what will they be like after when problems occur?".  There are already posts on another thread re. failing rear suspension bushes recognised some months ago and not yet fixed.

We went into the dealership to collect their Octavia L&K DSG courtesy car for the week while they get around to PDI-ing the S3. It's 'only' the 2.0 TDI unfortunately but it's still quite a nice car and will definitely help plug the gap until we collect the 2.0 TSI SE-L S3 on Friday. :) While we were there he let me have a nosey at our new S3 in their compound, just to dangle the prize under my nose a little more haha. I have to say the petrol blue looks even better in the flesh than I imagined, though regrettably the camera on my phone (S6) has flattened it to dark blue. In real life it's a lighter blue and catches the daylight with a lovely iridescent greenish sheen over it.

They have confirmed they will be leaving all the plastic wrap on the paint and leaving on the seat covers and dash protectors etc, so we can take it away and detail it to exacting standards and seal the interior, paintwork, wheels etc. I'd much rather do that than trust their monkeys to do it with a ten year old washcloth full of grit. :D It'll be weird to get a new car like that but at least I can guarantee it won't be full of scratches and swirls before I even get it home. Our last three cars all had bodywork marring and scratched instrument binnacles from clumsy PDIs (only one of which was a Škoda, so I'm not brand-bashing), so it'll be lovely to have an immaculate delivery and keep it that way. The salesman has been great about it, and has asked in all seriousness if we'd please take it back to 'visit' him so he can see the end product when the detail is complete. He said he's not seen a petrol blue S3 before and is a bit disappointed he'll not see the 'end product' if we drive it away still in transport wrap! I said OK as he's a decent chap and he seemed genuinely gutted before he asked lol.

Roll on Friday the 1st of April, I just hope it doesn't turn into an April Fools'. :D

Looking good there Derv, I initially looked at the Blue but was not sure if it would suit or not.  The family saw the Quartz Grey in the showroom and it did look great so that is what I went with in the end, plus it is a change from blue which is what my current car is.

Mine will be off into a company called Deep Shine Detail on the 11th April who will be giving at good and thorough going over so hope the correct alloys have turned up by then so he can do his bit with those also.

You and I really have been ironic twins throughout this whole thing. We have a grey car currently, and originally ordered quartz grey but I was sick of silvers/greys and switched to the petrol blue half way. :D Good to see you're also getting the car detailed, it makes a big difference. I've got a few hundred quids worth of stuff boxed up ready for the car arriving so it can be kept shipshape for the duration. Can't wait to snow foam it. :D

Yes we have, I want to basically do the best I can given it is a living inheritance and the fact I will be keeping it for a minimum of 5 years whilst it is in warranty and gap insured.

My only thoughts now are how to wash it and keep it clean.  Not sure if I will wash it myself or have a local firm do it who specialise in washing and valeting, have used them before to do a valet on my current car a few years back after a coffee accident on the way back from Harwich.  My current car is horrendous to wash as unless you wash it and dry each panel as you go it streaks and smears something awful.  I am thing for £10 which is a full hand wash, hand dry and clean inside and out I might get them to do it.

I don't want to drag us too far OT but please do it yourself if you can! You're guaranteed swirls and mars from a car wash place unless they are also detailers (new lambswool mit per car, three bucket wash with grit guards etc)...

Your detailer should be sealing the paint for you which will make washing and drying in future a breeze. You can do it at home on the drive or even at the local garage jet wash like me. I take a couple of buckets, mits and my products, and just use the rinse setting on the lance when required before finishing with a wipe down of the excellent Sonax BSD. Easy!

If you'd like more info drop me a PM mate and I'll be happy to advise.

I ordered mine 14nov15 date given last week was 26oct16. Dealer spoke to skoda and said there are 39 cars with same issue in Ireland. They have promised that my car would be with me by mid July as they hope issue is resolved. They haw a combi in stock with spec I want and they are very worried because of the mileage I do(5000km/month) and keep saying my current car is of no worth to them but they still have to honour the deal salesman not happy but general manager very nice and says we are honouring the deal and his salesman should not be like that. I kinda decided to go with the combi for €1800 dear but when them came back to me it was working out st 2600€. I told them no way. Chancers I offered to pay €1800 upfront heard nothing back. Anyone else having same issues?

Hi chaps,

Is there any point having the paint sealed,(detailer as you refer to them) whilst on purchase hire? I had my OCT3 done with LifeShine and saw no difference apart from the nearly 300 quid down.

I will return my Superb3 (picking up in 48 hours  ) in no later than 2 years and get another one / maybe Superb again.

I will never own the car and dont want to so please dont murder me for my choices ;o)

Cheers

J

I definitely wouldn't bother if you are definitely going to hand it back. Mine will be on lease so I'll just do it myself- more fun and cheaper.

Besides, looking at pictures on here it seems that you have to spend about a grand to get anything visibly better than a diy job.

It depends on why you want it sealing, and type of sealant you're talking about. As I said above my S3 will be fully sealed and detailed (though not by the dealership), and that's a 3 year lease. The nano ceramic/fluorocarbon type coatings are fairly hard (like glass) and will protect the paint from stone chips and light marring and scratching (swirls). They won't look any different than bare paint usually, but they will help keep the car free from minor damage it would otherwise pick up throughout your ownership. Most unprotected cars are a complete mess of swirls and mars by the time they're a year or two old - most people just don't notice them. This significantly dulls the look of the car and makes it harder to clean (as well as easier to get dirty!).

The second type of coating is the anti-dirt types. For example Gteqhnic C2v3 liquid crystal, Sonax Polymer NetShield or Sonax Brilliant Shine Detailer (which is actually a spray sealant despite the name), or Gyeon CanCoat. They do indeed seal the paintwork but offer no 'hardness' protection. They simply bond on a molecular level ('nano' technology) to the paint and provide a high gloss, UV protection to prevent paint dulling, extreme hydrophobia (repelling water and dirt) and helping keep the car clean. Often people will apply the second type of sealant over the first type, and some like me a further layer also (called a Last Step Product, designed to be sacrificial and maintain the life of the more expensive and harder to apply base coatings). Like this: Hard nano sealant > Overcoat sealant such as C2v3 > LSP (eg BSD)

It isn't as complicated or even expensive as it might sound on first glance. If you simply want to help the car look good, repel water and maintain itself then you could easily do it yourself for minimal outlay. Some of the products are extremely easy to apply and offer high levels of protection from environmental contaminants like water, bird poo, fallout, dirt etc (but not scratches). Something like C2v3 and/or BSD are just spray on / wipe off and provide a couple of months' protection without hassle. You can just put them on after your usual (hopefully two bucket) wash and reap the rewards for less than five minutes extra 'work'.

Check out the detailing section of the forum for some proper info. :)
