Right, old man's 70th birthday this month.

He doesn't like much but he does like a malt.

Mustn't be peaty.

Say I'd pay around £60 for something. Even better if it's on offer at the price.

He likes Highland Park and Dalwhinnie.

I don't drink the stuff so I've no opinion.

Talisker Storm, one of my favourites quote from a review about it

Talisker Storm has all the warm, smoky, peppery characteristics we all love in the standard Talisker 10yo - but they've been turned up a notch, with more smoke, more spices, and a bigger than ever flavour explosion.

makes me want a drink just reading about it

On the whiskey side of things you could look at the Bushmills distillery reserve with a personalised label (£45 ish) or the 16 year old single https://www.masterofmalt.com/whiskies/bushmills-16-year-old-3-wood-whiskey/

The 1608 is getting rarer and rarer to find and prices seem to have sat at £60 ish (I had 5 but gave some away like a mug :( ) https://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/P-7794.aspx

I have a bottle of Dalwhinnie Century Edition 100 Year ie the 1998 celebrating the 1898, 15 year old Single Malt.

Export strength ie 43% - 70 cl in its box.

Tried to sell it to a couple of the Whisky specialist here in Brum but they suggest they will give you £100-£200 and then offer you a fraction of that when you pop in.

Box looks like it is 17 years old being kept in a infrequently accessed cupboard ie a little bit frayed but still quite presentable.

Like a whisky, like most spirits except Vodka (ethanol).  Had a nice tour with customs doing patrol work in the Highland Islands and sampled a few, thought the islands were a bit more peaty than the mainland but no expert (liked the Irish Whiskey too).

Can't be any worse than Scotland after the fallout from Chernobyl all those years ago, remember seeing a documentary of samples taken from the bottom of Loch Ness with different coloured layers over hundreds of years and a large light layer near the top was from the time of Chernobyl so much was carried over Wales and Scotland but their whiskeys are still great

Hope they do not use the water from the lakes.

One of the non-multibuy Macallans below.

https://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/B-40-Macallan.aspx

I've bought their Gold before and was very disappointed. It's not a patch on the stuff they were doing 10-15 years ago even :( I did occasionally treat myself to the 18yo, once used sherry cask which was lovely :)

Edit: I misread the OP

I just realised that the OP stated he DIDN'T want peaty!!!! I'm a muppet.

I've recently finished a bottle of Dalmore and it was very nice, although a tad expensive. Got it half price from the Whisky Shop

The nutmeg and smooth chocolaty taste is a bit special :D

Talisker storm as mentioned by YetiVRS     is such a nice drink. A pub I visit in kent has it (hidden away) going there next week  .

Maybe as a present a selection pack of scotch and/or a visit to a distillery .

Have a great day.
