retrofitting trip computer 'mk1 SDI'

Featured Replies

Can the trip computer be installed in a mk1 fabia classic?

i've got another SDI comfort and elegance TDI to get parts from, obviously the clusters will need swapped over, anything else? i'd assume it'll need coded??

cheers

If you change the cluster then you will need the immobiliser recoding or the car won't run. If you have the little plastic tag with the 4 digit SKC for both cars then it can be done with VCDS, otherwise you will need the dealer tool or something like vag tacho.

Yeah I've got something in the back of my mind telling me that you don't need to swap the cluster itself just the comfort module and the stalk (with the buttons on).

But I could be wrong!

I think you will need to swap the cluster over.

The left hand LCD on a car with a trip computer is different to the basic one with just a clock.

You can see they are different as the trip computer LCD has space at the top for the MPG icons etc.

Basic:

Trip Computer:

Has anyone done this - the left hand lcd looks the same size in both jpgs - what it can display is the issue, I guess.

The LCD is the same physical size, if you look at the actual digits on the two displays, you'll see they're different.

The basic display only has the segments to display a clock.

Since you have all the bits to hand - could you confirm for us that the original display needs to be replaced before going to the trouble of making the change ?

as i revoved it from a car with the computer, came out a Comfort :D

had in idea, wonder if i can swap over the internal lcd from the cluster with the trip comp and fit it intto the cluster without the trip computer?

as the displays are easily removed

Key question for me would be - is it reverseable so that I can fall back to a complete change if it doesnt work out.

Hi, was this ever resolved, my MK1 Ambiente has given up the ghost but I've picked up a mk1 classic which I know I can retrofit cruise control to but no idea if I can retrofit the trip computer.

Cheers Melz
