Fabia 2010 1.6 Tdi cr engine

Featured Replies

Hi All

Newbie here who has just joined 15 minutes ago looking for some advice on 2010 Fabia 1.6 tdi cr engine. I appreciate my questions have probably been asked several times over but having a bit of difficulty navigating the site.

1) If well maintained/serviced - How many miles are the engines good for?

2) How much would you expect to pay (all in) to fit a new timing belt (not main dealer)

The reason I ask is I'm considering buying the above car with 131,000 on the clock. Full Skoda service history up to 124k ish.

Many thanks in advance.

Timing belt around £250.

These engines like to go through EGR valves and have DPFs fitted but apart from that are a good little engine. Seen a few over 200,000 miles now.

Thanks for the info hutchysrs50. You have now led me to the next question EGR Valves when you say go through them what sort of mileage / time span are we talking here.

What did the full dealer service history over 7 years and 124,000 miles show.

Fixed or Variable servicing for oil changes?  so 11 / 12 oil changes or 6?

Has it had Air Filter 3 times and Brake fluid changed twice or once?

Check the Warranty History between 2010 and 2013, and any other stuff like service campaigns on the Skoda Computer system from 0-124,000 miles.

Any wiring loom replaced in the engine compartment or work on the EGR.

Budget for DPF replacement just incase.

About 60,000 for the EGR valves, Id be amazed if it's in its original EGR valve now. My 2011 and 2012 1.6 CR Fabias are both are on their 2nd and mileage is 51,000 & 60,000

Hi Offski

Thanks for the pointers, I believe DPF has been done

I am hopefully going to find this out tomorrow when I ring Skoda. I'm very much on the cautious side as I haven't yet looked at the car in the flesh as its 200 odd miles from me.

Positives so far

Good MOT history

Car looks well kept (apart from couple of cosmetic issues)

Skoda history til Late 2016

Low asking price

Negatives

Low asking price

Current seller only had car 6-7 months (Alarm bells ringing)

Service book is blank? I guess it could be lost hence my call tomorrow to Skoda dealer who supplied and serviced car.

Sounds like it needs Timing Belt and 2 new tyres - £450 ish I guess

Maintenance in it's last 8,000 miles - going to try and get details of local garage who have done work in last 7 mths and call them before I set off on a 400 mile round trip.

If I'm being honest I'm sitting on the negative fence unless phone calls tomorrow swing me back the other way.

Me thinks this could be a can of worms, see previous reply to Offski

We have a handful of run and drop cars with the CAY engine in and some of them have covered in excess of 350,000miles with a service every 10k, none of this long life/variable rubbish.

Wow Some mileage! Thanks James I think I will sleep on it and speak to Skoda tomorrow. Now beginning to tot up what I will need to spend on car to get it ship shape.

Thanks again all for your advice.

As already posted very unlikely for the EGR not to have been changed and the replacement ought to be the revised part.

I don't know the typical DPF life, I will be interested to see any comments. The good thing is with 130K on the clock most likely plenty of longer journeys and the engine mostly running up to temperature so there should be less soot created and hence ash in the DPF but still budget for replacement. I don't know how much this would be.

The current VAG recommendation for the cambelt replacement is 5 years / 60000 miles. If no recent history presume it needs doing. Always get the water pump changed at the same time and a full coolant change. The dealer fixed price may be little more than an independent but you get the warranty should there be a problem later.

Depending on the asking price you could pay significantly more for a 60-80K mileage car that has done far more shorter journeys and still need to have the same amount of work done in the next couple of years.

Well I think I may have dodged a bullet on this one.

Rang Skoda Dealer who supplied the car new and also Skoda Uk.

The Main Dealer history upto late 2016 turned out to be a service 1 year on from new in 2011 and then another 3 weeks later, something to do with a temp sensor / inspection service? At this point I rang seller who was due to call me back. He never did.

The search goes on I'm now considering the 3 pot 1.4tdi P2 estate. Have seen a couple advertised on 08 plate with 90 to 110k on the clock both 1 owner with service history.

Any experience /  thoughts on this engine particularly the mileage they can do if well looked after would be appreciated.

My thinking here is no DPF, £30 road tax. I know its only 80bhp but that's not a problem.

Thanks again for all the advice

I think some of the 1.4tdi`s had a DPF. I think it was the greenline ones. I`m sure some one will give more info on this soon.

m8t, I think you're right on that one I didn't really fancy the Greenline version for that reason.

How much are you looking to spend? I bought my 08 plate 1.9TDi PD 105bhp for 2.5k at Xmas. That might seem a bit steep but it had a brand new MOT, clutch, cambelt & water pump service. My point is have a look at the rest of the range. Is a small petrol no good?

Looking to spend around £2500 too. Have seen a couple for sale around that price one has 81,000 on clock 1 owner FSH the other 111,000 2 owners I think.

The car is for my wife who is a community nurse so good mpg, cheap tax, large boot  and reliability are key. She also gets paid generously for mileage covered. We already have a 1.2 tsi 105 SE plus estate. That has got us hooked on the Fabia. Personally never been a fan of diesels but in this instance I think that is what will serve her best.

This one hasn't been marked as sold yet.

  • 2 weeks later...

I've had my 1.6tdi fabia 2010 for over a year and a half, purchased with 35,000 in September 2015 now got 58,500. I've had to do the DPF sensor (£170) and that's it. Runs fine and I do long journeys every week.
