Changing the Second Speedometer to MPH

How is that possible, it puts a tick box to change it back to KPH like most new cars so both KPH and MPH are both available.

I'm not sure what you're getting at. All I meant was that it is possible for dealers to do the necessary coding and location change which results in a tick box appearing in the Maxidot menu to allow MPH to be displayed. This is covered in detail in the Diagnostics, etc, section of the site.

Exactly - and clearly over reading is proferable to under reading as owners would be complaining in numbers as they got tickets whilst thinking they were adhering to the limit.   I must say

Gizmo is correct, it only needs to be capable of showing MPH or KPH. i.e. tick/untick a box in maxi dot    The key word is CAPABLE

This that you put in the previous post that I've highlighted in bold.
""Contrary to what has been said, dealers CAN make the change using workshop technology but may not wish to do so as in their view it contravenes EU legislation.""

Certainly displays MPH on a 15 Plate Audi A3 Sportback and it hasn't been made to read MPH, bog standard from the factory.  Just went out and double checked too.

What I'm asking is what other VAG/VWG cars have the same dash as the Yeti?

My Audi TT has a similar looking dash but has the more sensible MPH/KPH speedo with a large digital MPH readout in the central display as standard.

I find the digital readout is useful in lower speed limits i. e. 20 and 30 MPH.

This page suggests a few VW dashes that don't show digital MPH, and need setting country to 'Australia'...

This should work on the VW Golf Mk6, Scirocco MK3, Passat, EOS, Transporter T5.1 etc!

I know the Tiguan does, and the Seat Toledo.

Then, as has been said, find someone with VCDS and get them to change your car to Australian.

End of "problem"!

... And I'm sure it is absolutely legal - as the video shows at the end - you can easily switch back to showing KPH which is a requirement in the regs...

I like this bit (from the link)

If you’re not this way inclined but still want this feature then we can code this to your vehicle for £54 down here in Poole. If you’re not local and we have an engineer close to you then we can offer it for £99. We’ve offered the info for free but as we all know; a business has to make money!!

Damn decent they have offered the info for free (probably copied from someone else)

£54 for 5 mins work... maybe I should be coding for a living!

Are there any warranty implications from making this switch?

Say, for instance, someone not a million miles away had just leased a Yeti and wanted to activate this option...

Non at all, all you are doing is turning on an option already there.

All 3 of our cars have had numerous VCDS  options turned on and then had warranty work done.

So another massive thank you to Justin who is both a gentleman & a scholar!

Well done to Nuriyan. Can't wait to get mine done.

Having watched the video, i got the impression that the digital MPH display lagged behind the needle on the speedo as the car accelerated up. ie the needle got to 20 somewhat before the digits showed 20. Is that the case for those of you who have had the digital MPH activated?

I suspect it only updates every few seconds so that it is readable and not changing too much to read properly, the same as the digital KPH one.

A million thanks to jonny5ive (Barrie) who kindly recoded my maxidot display today to show Mph instead of Kph.  I can't tell what a joy it was to drive home through the many speed cameras along the A5 whilst keeping and eye on the digital display.

Thanks again Barrie you are a star!

Anyone with VCDS and Yeti experience in north Lincolnshire? The kph thing is driving me nuts and I have only done 50 miles. I find my hand on the wheel obscures the speedo so I like the little readout.

  • 1 month later...

My local across the road private garage has VCDS and he tried to amend my 66 Reg Monte Carlo from UK to Australia. We followed all the instructions found in various places on this forum but after "clicking exit and then do it" we got an error 31 saying the code range had been exceeded - tried several times to no avail. Just wondering if later models do not permit the change ???

In case anyone is reading this thread (still) I tried my Carista Bluetooth device with iPad app and find they have recently upgraded the software enabling me to change the region to Australia and thereafter obtain the large digital mph display. I bought the carista device/app some years back for my previous 2011 Yeti but found it would not change the region - confirmed apologetically by the manufacturers. On purchasing my FL Yeti a few weeks back I tried it again to no avail so it appears they have upgraded it very recently.

Got a cheap BT device somewhere so might be worth the £10 to subscribe for a month

I bought my carista iOS app a few years back when the in app pro purchase lasted for ever (thankfully). Seems to be choice of weekly or annual purchase now.

Not sure what the issue there was, as my May '17 example took the coding with no issue. I also applied it to a friend's Feb '17 Yeti as well. Again, no issues.

You've obviously sorted it via Carista now, but I wonder if it was the software version of VCDS the garage was using. That can certainly cause issues, as later revisions will have had updates with regard to module access etc.

Yes it could have been one of many things including software needing updating but thankfully I did not have to waste more of his freely offered time to try and find out.

If one can get hold of a cheap OBD2 Bluetooth plug then the carista iPad/iPhone app option is a good way of doing it. You need the in app purchase but for a one off event the £9 for one week purchase would more than suffice and the menu driven route is even simpler than the VCDS route requiring zero operating knowledge other than choosing the Australia region. Particularly useful if not within range of a friendly VCDS operator. I changed quite a few options with my carista which is now fairly versatile though by no means comparable with VCDS. When I first bought it some years back it had very few options for a Yeti and I was very disappointed with my purchase.

I am delighted with the digital speedo - a very big plus in my opinion.

+1

Just coded (yet another) brand new Yeti and it took the coding 1st time (as did the ‘staging’, CH/LH as fogs, DRL dimming on indicating etc)

It is either down to old software, hooky software, or the operator.

That was my Yeti- the third which Martin has sorted and, as always, he made it look easy! Often the case when observing top performers.
