MAX DOT TO SHOW MPH

Featured Replies

I know this was covered some years ago, but I would be grateful for some up-to-date information.

Having written off my lovely first Yeti a couple of weeks ago, I have just collected a replacement.

The dealership said they would change the computer to 'Australia ' so the maxdot shows mph.

They didn't do it.

Is there anyone within the lovely Briskoda community with the magic cable and software to do the job, please?

We in Australia abandoned MPH around 40 years ago.

Thats the point. If the dash is set to Australia the secondary speed display will be in mph as the main dash would be km/h but it is still English.

Yep, right enough. Nevertheless, when I had my previous Yeti reprogrammed, 'Australia' was the setting that renders the maxdot as mph.

I don’t know why we would want both.

It is a legal requirement (in EU anyway) that both are displayed. In days gone by they used to have both on the same speedo. An inner and outer display. But now we have maxidit etc the alternative scale can be displayed in the centre.

I remember that from way back but that’s long ago.

Yes

Plenty do...

The best way of find someone is to find someone close using either the list or the map in the VCDS section. Send them a nice PM and I'm sure they'll help you out.

My TT is only a year older, a 14 plate, than my Yeti and that has the KPH inner markings on the speedo and the large digital MPH can be displayed in the Maxidot so you  can be lucky sometimes and get what you want without the faff of workarounds.

With the increasing move towards digital dashboards one would hope that you could have what you want?

You can do it using the Carista android app, given a compatible Bluetooth ODBII dongle (Carista will sell you one). Much cheaper than VCDS - though obviously nowhere near as feature-length, but still handy for many things like reading and resetting diagnostic codes.

I used Carista on my 2017 1.4Tsi L&K Yeti and set the country to Australia but can't find how to get the mph digital speedo up on the MFD. I have tried unticking the Alt Speed Display but this just gets rid of the kph display.  I then selected Travel Mode but this left the display as kph.   Anybody got any ideas?

go to MFD data and select digital speed

Thanks AMD87.  Checked my MFD Data but there is no Digital Speed option.

If I had a pound for every time this came up again as a new topic on here.......!!!

Just remember the digital speed display is as innacurate as the main dials. I can't see the point in a digital display of say 70mph when I know I am probably only doing a real 64 or 65mph

Better using a gps app on your phone to calibrate the existing km/hr reading  and remember them so you know exactly what speed you are doing in your car compared to the speed limit; eg in mine 118km/hr is actually an exact 70mph. Much easier and less prone to error than trying to remember that a digital 64=70!

Similarly 101=60mph

85=50mph

69=40mph

53=30mph.

Just 5 numbers to remember and safe from any speeding tickets or speed cameras, and particularly useful in 50mph average zones, where I find myself slowly overtaking most traffic yet know I am not speeding.

Just remember your car might be slightly different by a km/hr or so depending on gearing, tyres fitted etc.

but sometimes its just easier to have a quick glance down and seeing a big display rather than having to look down then across to a small mobile screen and look for my speed hidden in a corner somewhere.

what dash do you have?

Sorry, Kenfowler3966.  If you read my query it is nothing do with the accuracy or otherwise of a vehicles speed measurement.  It just how to set a particular display on the MFD.  Can you help with that?

Regards

Whose suggesting you use a mobile apart from the initial checking of true speed against the display. I got my wife to hold my phone when doing this.

After that it is clear on the maxidot what speed I am doing in km/hr, and easy to use that when setting the cruise control speed. Indeed I always use the km/hr when adjusting the cruise speed to the speed limit.

Hi AMD87,

I believe it is called a MaxiDot. Does this help?

Thanks

just checked on my pre fl,

go to settings            enter

go to mfd                   enter

go to dig speed tick  enter

back, back

works for me!!

good luck!!

Hi Frenchtone,  My FL model doesn't have that option

Thanks

Yeah i dont fancy having someone in the passenger seat holding a phone calling out my speed.
