Had my new Yeti 1.2 SE a week now, is it possible to change the second speedometer in the maxidot display to MPH?

If you go into the Car settings on the Radio there should be a section called Units, I think you can change it in there

yes probably, you need someone with vcds kit to change the country to australia

It cannot be done on the Maxidot, it needs the specialised cable that connects to a laptop and the software to make the change, the cable and software can be had for about £225 but most get someone near to do it for them for a bottle or 2

Thanks Urrell is it worth it, can't understand why Skoda have done that in a mph country, not everyone goes abroad. It would have been nice to be able to choose the units.

Th VCDS software will let you change lots more as well as reading any fault codes and resetting them but for just occasional use it is too expensive.

 

It would not cost Skoda much at all to provide the option to display both MPH and KMH as it will do if changed with VCDS, it adds a tick box on the Maxidot to select either.

There are a lot of posts on here about the reason for this. Basically the M/F have to have the option the sell their cars in other countries. If you want to read the posts use Google search.

I understand that Fred, but what would it cost to give the customer the choice?  I prefer the readout to be digital rather than analogue but I guess I'll get used to it.

I didn't say it can't be done, use the search to see how it's done with VCDS. It involves changing the country to Australia!

Its the law to have  MPH and KPH as its not on the clocks they put KPH on maxidot

It is not illegal to have just MPH showing, what the law states is that the car MUST BE CAPABLE of showing MPH and KPH, the VCDS coding change means that BOTH are available to be shown, all you need to do is to tick / un-tick a box in the maxidot to toggle between the small KPH and large MPH displays.

Thanks Fred I understand it can be done with VCDS, all I was saying is, it would have been nice if the user could have selected the appropriate units wherever the car is used.

Not true, us MOT testers CANNOT fail a vehicle for not showing both scales, in fact the speedometer is not a testable item on a car or van, it's only testable on minibuses and coaches that have over 13 passenger seat.

Under european construction and use regulations all cars and vans, not lorry's and buses must be capable of showing both scales, this is why KPH is shown on the maxidot.

Gizmo is correct, it only needs to be capable of showing MPH or KPH. i.e. tick/untick a box in maxi dot 

 

The key word is CAPABLE

Pretty clear.  As supplied, the Yeti can do this by virtue of the second display in km/h. When fiddled about with VCDS the Yeti continues to be able to do this but adds the ability to display in mph as well.

 

Although why they want or need to see mph in Australia who went to km in 1974, who knows?!

I would have thought for the same reasons as the Maxidot showing KPH here.

Not the same at all.  Australia used to use mph but now use kph and have done for decades.  There's nowhere you can drive to from Australia that uses mph.  Here, anywhere we go across the border is in kph; we're one of a very few places left still stuck with miles.

Looks like I trod on a Hornets nest!  It looks similar to one we have in motorhome forums about the legalities of towing a car on an A frame behind the motorhome (which I do).  As a newby to the Yeti I just thought it would have been easy for Skoda to allow the driver it choose the mph of kph in settings doesn't seem rocket science to me.  Anyway I guess I will get use to it I wont bother with VCDS unless the dealer will do a freebee (lol).

Dealers can't do it - they don't have VCDS.  VCDS can do a lot more in terms of configuration tweaks than the kit dealers have.  (AIUI it can even enable some functionality that is a chargeable option if you order it from the factory.)
