AXA, I thought they were decent but after hearing that I can’t wait to switch. Seems so unfair.

I have found any aftermarket lowering  options & stereo upgrades, seems to be the main problem when 'searching', Exhausts, Roll Bars, Air filters, brake upgrades are not much extra, If there is a factory option of lowering on your model this can help, you bought the car already lowered......

I’ve looked on compare sites, cheapest is almost £800 with a dodgy company called Flux Direct. The rest are £1000 plus! I’m absolutely gutted, and to think I’ve been with AXA for almost 3 years, they can’t even trust me to modify my car and still drive safely.

It is just an actuarial risk - I suppose they don't know you from Adam. Saying that the more variables they remove from their portfolio the easier it is to manage.

 

I do not think that Adrian Flux would be considered a 'dodgy company'. Or was that just tongue in cheek?

There are specialist in the Insurance section that will quote, including Adrian Flux, do not expect Insurance Companies that do not Insure Mods to be interested.

 

Northern Ireland used to be difficult to get insurance in, maybe no more.

Young & Inexperienced drivers can still expect issues / expense.

Admiral are often prepared to give insurance on Mods, and sometimes this is surprising as the call handlers have not a clue from a Anti Roll Bar and a Roll Bar / Roll Cage.

I only say they are dodgy due to their ratings on trustpilot, but if they aren’t dodgy I’d consider going to them!

Hello folks, 

 

Got the new alloys on on Thursday, decided to get new tyres too so I can put the oem ones on as winter wheels. I personally like how it looks, and I think it could be helpful for anyone else interested in getting new alloys for their Fabia. Feels like I’m driving a new car

They are 8J, I believe the oem alloys are 7J. I kept the same size of tyre to allow for a bit of stretching, a ‘safe’ amount.

Nice! Did you keep the offset the same? I stuck my fingers behind my front tyre and was tight with the stock 16x7j 

 

Also do they stick out much?

The original offset was ET46 and on these, the offset is ET33. Not a massive difference and the style of wheel generally allows for more space for the brakes. 

 

I honestly don't see much of a difference in terms of sticking out, they are still slightly tucked under the wheel arch. 

 

Reminds me to say that whilst I was getting them put on, the mechanic said my wheel alignment was off by quite a bit to my surprise. I was surprised because I had gotten the passenger front tyre replaced a few months ago and the wheel alignment should've been done then. Also, in the last month, I had a service with Skoda and I'm pretty sure they should've done it then too.

I was going to wait until my policy ends at the end of the year but I'm still looking for a good price.

 

Feel incredibly ripped off, currently paying around £700 and being quoted well over £1000 despite 2 years NCM and no convictions etc.

Sadly you void your current insurance with the new non standard / option wheels and not declaring them.

Maybe never an issue unless you car is stolen or the wheels pinched and the car damaged.

 

PS, Did you have the alignment done after lowering it?

I'm aware of this, but as I said, I am looking for other options. I'm sure I'm not the only person who hasn't declared their modifications purely because the insurance companies hike the prices up ridiculously.

I was looking it to getting a set of Bola rims most of theirs are 8j and wasnt sure if they would fit.

 

Problem is i have now added about 10 more possible choices to the list! haha

Don't worry about it mate, I was the same. Best to spend time picking a set you like, it is hard though!

My insurer was ok with me changing the wheels on mine, maybe fact they were Skoda alloys, only went up by about £50.
