Sasha’s Octavia vRS

Haha, probably! I thought £200 was expensive enough lol. The same breaker has a set of powerfolding mirrors from the same car going a little under the price they usually do but I am resisting those for now. I do want to do that upgrade as I miss it from my old Volvo and current Mercedes. Need to slow down on the spending dammit! Sometimes I wonder if I should have bought the white Elegance which was my second choice instead of this car as it already had Columbus, power mirrors and other nice stuff, also had KESSY and power bootlid which I’d have liked and it was £2500 less expensive. I really wanted the DSG though and that made it worth it IMO. I don’t think the fact it’s a vRS really bothers me, I just wanted an auto haha. I have really fallen for this car though, so easy to mod and so many to do! Will help keep me occupied if nothing else :D

If another Columbus shows up over there Sasha i might ask you to get it for me!!!:biggrin:

I bought some Swarfega off eBay recently.  Paid £5.12, free delivery.

Strangely, it arrived from Amazon, so I looked it up on Amazon - £4, free delivery.

Serves me right for just looking on eBay.  Big up for the entrepreneur who has 1,538 positive feedback this month; nice little earner!

Curiously they still have just the one left - but I thought i'd bought that one! :blush

Oh dear! Stuff like that I look at Amazon and things, stuff like bulbs I always get from AliExpress or dhgate. In fact, the next mod for the car is on its way from China now and was ordered from AliExpress. The same product is on eBay now for £20. I paid £6.79 but I have to wait a few days. I’m impatient but I am willing to wait a week to save 66% of the price being asked on eBay :D

I've always been a Cheap Chinese stuff/AliExpress sceptic, but recently got some reverse LEDs which were recommended in another thread and they are bloody brilliant.

At least twice as bright as the Osram LEDs I had, with no blue tinge whatsoever. They were only around £9 delivered too.

Tempted to try the Chinese copies of the proper VW LED footwell units next.

I was until a couple of years ago as well, but I’ve bought loads of stuff off there since and not once have I received a duff product. If you give the LED modules a go, let us know how they are :) I still haven’t fitted my footwell lights yet! Will do it when I do the towbar wiring.

Then you’ll have the unit I retrofitted which is a MIB2 Amundsen. This unit will take an 8 inch screen as it has a resolution of 480x800. All you need is the Columbus screen p/n 5E0 919 606. Or you can use an FL Amundsen 8 inch display if you like, which was my original plan, but I came to prefer the pre fl screen as it matches my interior better.

What colour is the FL backlight? think i'll be opening it up to fit the green backlight like the pre FL versions , better start getting the solder iron out.

They’re white, matches the steering wheel buttons from MY16 onward which are also white. This was the big clincher for me when choosing between the 2 screens, I decided I couldn’t live with the mishmash of lighting colours and I have no patience to solder different backlighting myself. Mind you, my car needs some work doing to the steering wheel, so if I’d have bought an MY16 onward steering wheel id be saying a different thing I imagine haha

I could send you a link to a lad in halifax breaking an 17 FL VRS....

Haha, please don’t!! I say this regularly, but I really have to slow the mods down now. Particularly when I’m not using the car as it needs new tyres. Trying to coordinate getting them fitted at the uni as TOTD don’t cover where I live but the time slots are limited.

I've spent the last two days (a lot of that was at work ) reading this entire post from start to finish. I am most impressed in the subtlety in your mods and the quality of their execution.

Roll on June when the company takes the car off me and I can get my own Octavia project underway - you've given me loads of ideas  :)

Thanks very much :) As it is one of those stealthy colours I thought I’d go for subtle mods, the kind that don’t overtly stand out, but you would see when parked next to a standard one. The OEM+ stuff with extras will continue to expand in time as I am certainly planning to install folding mirrors at some point, but that’s down the line. No big mods for a bit. Still need to fit the mudflaps and sill trims! Did a full wheels off detail and forgot to fit them haha.

That reminds me of a previous forum I was on many years ago.  I bought an HID kit off one of the forum members (who had a website / business he had built) and was doing a deal for the forum members at 20% discount, seemed a good deal at the time.

It arrived and I happened to see a returns address on the envelope - Googled it and it was from a well know, completely different online HID retailer and they were half the price from them direct.  I learnt my lesson there and then :wondering:

That’s a bit daft!! I’d have at least removed that so you wouldn’t tell.

Yikes - you did a full wheels off detail and forgot to fit them?!  :o

That would certainly reduce the rolling circumference - best get those wheels back on before you grind your discs right down. ;)

  • Author

Haha, luckily I did refit the wheels, only forgot the mudflaps :)

  • Author

And the sill trims, forgot those too!! One day I’ll remember everything I promise :D

Edited by SashaGrace

@SashaGrace the skoda emblems, is there a front and rear version or are they the same?

  • Author

They are both the same on the Octy 3, both 90mm :)

Thats because they were sent direct from the well known online website, not from the forum seller.

Basically I placed an order on his website, paid for them, he then placed an order with the well known online retailer who dispatched to me.  Grrrr.

  • Author

Christ that’s even worse!!! I would have assumed he was holding wholesale stock but to just place an order on your behalf is incredible!
