I would also appreciate a picture to see how they look :)

That’s nice, and the fake tip is embarrassing, but it’s not €850 worth of embarrassing...

thats the 4x4 zorst.... the FWD is much cheaper about 300 euro cheaper, Fox is the cheapest on the market and looks decent quality too

I like the black tips, i presume the left one is done in heat resistant paint?

did both mine in smooth hammerite about a month ago ( I do 100 miles a day ) and they are still like factory, go figure

It’s not even €550 worth of embarrassing yet. Once I’ve finished faffing with the radio and maybe found some power fold mirrors, possibly remap it, I’ll think about it :)

Hammerite is very heat resistant, I use it on brake calipers when needed on cheap cars when cleaning them, looks good :)

Btw Sasha there was a thread on powerfold mirrors here , left a link to L&R powerfold mirrors that are up on ebay

  • Author

Thanks, I saw those. Too much money for now, ideally want them to be cheaper. It’s not an essential thing, but my other ‘nice cars’ have had power folding mirrors and they’re handy with no driveway.

Beautiful. Well worth waiting for one to come around. I am 100% done with the audio on this car, it’s now perfect so I can move on to other things.

Wouldn't a 9" screen be better...?

  • Author

Haha, no, the 8 is fine. The new 9.2 inch Columbus screen would probably work, but I like the soft keys and green backlight on the buttons. I also like the scroll wheels which the new Columbus screen doesn’t have.

That's why I bought the wife a Karoq SEL because it had the same 8" screen as my 245 and we both found this worked well for both of us as we drive each others cars, the joy of having a tandem drive. Who needs or wants gesture control anyway. Waiting for lots of replies no doubt, oh dear!

Canton retrofit? :tongueout:

New screen looks great!

Thanks, haha, if I were to do anything I’d do a custom build as it’d be perfect then, but it’s more than acceptable now, much better than the original Bolero MIB1.

Ive been at the in laws all night and I was getting restless, I have managed to wash the car today, no pics as I wanted to get on with it between other things, you’ve seen before and afters with cars before so I’ve left it.

I was getting bored of just seeing the swan neck bare so I bought a cover for it. My OCD wouldn’t let me get anything other than a Witter one!

With that fitted, I was itching to do my badges so I broke out the hairdryer and set to it. Managed to get the Skoda logo badge and the Octavia badge done. I think they look they look awesome and I am so stoked to finish them off tomorrow. Glad I went for the all black look, it’s really going to improve the cars aesthetics.

Is it a straight swap if you have everything anyway?

Yes, just take one screen out and plug the new one in. If you have a MIB2 Bolero or Amundsen from factory it’ll work with the Columbus screen. I could have gone for a Columbus, but I wasn’t willing to pay £500 for the radio unit and the extra features (CD/DVD drive, HDD, SIM slot should it have one) would be of no use to me. This screen was pricey at £200 but I have sold my Amundsen screen already to recoup some cost. Still small change to get the extra features and nowhere near the extra cost to get an MY16 car, and certainly not one with an 8 inch screen.

I think I’m being a bit thick! I have the same one that you had from factory so which one do I need to just have the bigger screen?

I have CarPlay, sat nav and everything so don’t need any extra features just the larger screen. Which model do I need? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Then you’ll have the unit I retrofitted which is a MIB2 Amundsen. This unit will take an 8 inch screen as it has a resolution of 480x800. All you need is the Columbus screen p/n 5E0 919 606. Or you can use an FL Amundsen 8 inch display if you like, which was my original plan, but I came to prefer the pre fl screen as it matches my interior better.
