Sasha’s Octavia vRS

Money. The vRS trims for the rear are €50. The Octavia ones are on offer and are €20 for a set of 4. They aren’t quite as nice as the vRS ones in the car though so I’m not sure what to do yet. Will take them out to the car at some point and think about it.

Original plan was to remove the vRS front ones and use these Octvaia ones all round. We'll see how it goes :D

That's understandable, I remembered now that the Octavia ones were silly cheap compared to the VRS ones! :)

They are and I thought I would give these ones a go as for the price, why not? If I don’t like them, save some more ££ and reattach the original front vRS ones with new vRS rear ones. I was hoping these would be the same size as the vRS ones but they are a little smaller. We'll see how it goes :)

Take care the boot lid doesn't hit the lip protector when it closes. Make sure you adjust the stops so it can't. My brand new Superb had a Skoda OEM protector fitted by the dealer before they delivered it to me 5 weeks ago, and now I have about 50mm of paint chips along the bottom of the tailgate which the dealers are down to repair because they didn't make the adjustment. Very frustrating as it took me a whole 15 mins to do as a complete amateur with no brand knowledge at all.

Thanks for the heads up, fingers crossed I’ll be ok :)

I’m afraid so. Love the green and undoubtedly a stunning car, but the flaps spoil it for me.

Each to their own of course.

Yes. Practicality was the main thing when I put the mudflaps, but now I like the look with them.

I might be slightly more inclined to a gravel road driving than an average driver though, something like this:

Bye bye exhaust trims, see you next week when you are gloss back and shiny :)

Any news on the exhaust trims?

Yes, was gunna mention earlier. They would have been ready today, however the guy doing the work wasn’t happy with one of them so has redone it today. He isn’t in over this weekend so I can go and get them after Monday. I might not be able to get them until Tuesday though. I don’t mind waiting for a proper job.

Brilliant, I reckon thats going to look really good...

Weather permitting and as long as my face mask arrives I am going to spray mine this weekend, really looking forward to my 1st bit of painting

I’ve got a vision in my head of how they’ll look. Without the tow hook and with the electrics folded up it’ll look much cleaner as well. It’s not strictly a detachable bar but it’s use is infrequent and the hole cut sufficiently large to remove and reattach the tow hook in not much more time than a proper detachable hook so I will take it off before fitting everything back up to maintain the cars lines and refit everything when I need use of the towing equipment. Genius really :D

If it's the genuine Skoda protector you have it comes with two plastic positioners. The sit well on the bumper to space the protector in the correct position.

Sit the protector on the bumper inside the plastic positioners. Make sure the whole lot is central and fix the positioners in place with masking tape.

Peel off the adhesive strip and drop the protector between the positioners.

Worked for me and plenty of boot lit clearance.

Make sure you clean the bumper with some alcohol based cleaner or similar before you start.

I have no idea, it did say it was a proper Skoda one but I haven’t looked at it properly yet, was more interested in the badges haha. Thanks for the info, I’m sure it’ll come in handy when I get around to installing it. To be fair it’ll probably be the first thing to go on along with the mudflaps as they don’t involve taking bits off first. When the exhaust trims return, I’ll build the bumper up with those, the mudflaps and the bumper protector and put it back on the car. Badges can wait until the car is cleaned :)

I am too, was hoping for an Amundsen HU at least, but never mind. The book that came with the car says Bolero, there’s no sat nav that I can access and it only has 1 SD slot so I guess it definitely is a Bolero. I’ll get onto them later on when they open. What’s your hunch?

Thanks, yes £10,995 was the sale price which I am very pleased with for a sub 100k mile car.

I’d only consider the full leather, the cloth on my Citigo is such poor quality. Quick blast over with my hairdryer and the leather will be like new again, so don’t worry about the baggy seat, it’s not as bad as it looks in the pic, and it’s an easy fix :) SD card for music is my next job but I like streaming music from my phone via Amazon music so I’ll probably use the BT music quite a bit.

Thanks everyone :D

Does the hair dryer shrink the baggy leather back?

  • Author

Yes it does. The seat was never as bad as it looks in the picture and I had just gotten out of the car at the time that was taken. It’s very taught and tidy now. When I eventually get around to vacuuming it I’ll take some decent pictures of the interior :)

It is nice. I’ve had to have repairs done on my leather seats. It was a company car before I had it and despite only having 31000 on the clock it was poorly looked after. I stupidly missed the damage when looking at it. However. The repairs are amazing and you wouldn’t notice if you hadn’t seen them prior to repair. Useful to know the hair dryer trick!  I’m sure my bottom will cause the sag effect eventually!  On the seats that is!

Haha, this one now has 83k on the clock so I don’t mind the odd bit of wear and tear. Annoyed that the leading edge of the bonnet has actual corroding metal on it though, but such is life. People used to laugh at my plastic Peugeot 307, and you can say what you like about them, but at least that didn’t have any rust on it!! Neither, come to think of it, did my £95 Fiat Punto. My 2 German cars (Audi A4 and Merc CLK) have been the 2 rusty cars which says it all really haha.

The French and the Italians have learned to deal with rust by making their cars out of cardboard! ;)

Rust seems a rarity nowadays. It’s amazing how a car can look great but be a mechanical write off. Nice to see the Germans have still got something to work on!  I will continue to read your journey with interest. I am hooked on Skoda now. 2 in a row and I’ve never dine that before.

Neither have I! I bought the Citigo and loved it so I bought the Octy a year later. I did buy my A4 twice, but only because it was a giveaway the second time and I made money.

Weather is nice here today, but I haven’t got a hope of doing anything until I can write this 3000 word research proposal...

A break from assignment work can do wonders to focus the mind....

  • Author

It can, but I cannot afford enough of a

break to go to my Dad’s, get the tools out and do anything meaningful. If I had the exhaust tips here that would be different. In a way, I’m glad they aren’t ready until Monday as this assignment is due in Monday, so it’ll have to be all fluffed and finessed by then. I hate writing these things as they consume me and I’m an ultra perfectionist, and I can’t stop fiddling. I finished the research and draft writing last week and have spent every day since writing and rewriting. I’m a nightmare haha :D

What are you researching? Or proposing to research?

Behaviour management strategies for learners with dyslexia. I’m looking to compile existing strategies dotted around schools to see if there are any common techniques that work, or not as the case may be, then write it all up.

Well I've lost count of all the money this thread has cost me but today Sasha has cost me £8000.

We are now the proud owners of a Citigo. :)

I have one too, a great junior partner for my Octy vRS. They are brilliant little cars!

I’m not taking responsibility for that one!!!! Will just say, you won’t regret that decision. They are a genuinely nice car. I was chatting to a fellow owner the other day in TPS who was asking about it when I was getting the bits for the Octy. He had an identical Citigo to mine and an Up! GTi which looked awesome. I still love the Citigo when I drive it. Such a great chassis. I also like the lack of power strangely haha :)
