News is mixed following my cryptic clue there. I have just finished at the dealers and the 3Q0 CAN Gateway is now installed :) I’ve had this plugged in and running a few times to code it to match the car with CP active. Now the dealer has done the CP I have lost the drive mode selection, the driver alert system and I have a start stop fault so they need working through (all ideas welcome) but in the meantime what I wanted has worked really well :D

Sasha, I seem to remember you changing the camera module a few pages back.  Was this to get lane assist or was the original module faulty so needed replacing?  I have a sudden urge to have lane assist.  Got really excited when I got my OBD11 only to find that I had the wrong camera and started looking into it but gave up pretty soon.  Is it a screen out job and module swap or is there more to it?

Also looking at a flappy paddle steering wheel as my next swap.

The original module was not the one I needed to work with my navigation system for TSR. I needed a G revision one. If you want to do lane assist as the factory does you will need a new windscreen and a mount that you cannot get from VW. Alternatively you can use the HBA mirror with a camera and replace the HBA camera with the lane assist camera on an extension cable with the rest of the module mounted to the roof behind the interior light panel like this.

im doing this at the weekend now but im worried you have mentioned, do you need a specific revision of the 3Q0 module? what revision did you have? (im worried about losing functionality....)

can you send me the scan of the can gateway setup as i can compare with mine and maybe help you code out some of the errors. The mechanic removed almost all my errors i might be able to help

I believe it’s a parameterisation issue, I have no drive mode, no cc, no driver alert system and no start stop. I think the dealer just did CP removal and didn’t run a parameterisation with a file from an Octavia 3. Once that’s done it should work. The coding is all spot on, so I’m guess that’s the issue. If you ask them to parameterise your Gateway when it’s installed and it all works, please let me know :)

Catching up on WWDC I noticed Apple are adding some bits to iOS 13.

Album art over bluetooth is one, that should work for us out of the box as far as I can see.

CarPlay wise being able to use Siri for third party audio and navigation apps should be great.  I mention also because one of the things they're adding is a second video output, which should theoretically mean we start to see navigation apps integrated nicely into virtual dashboards. I guess unlikely to come to the Octavia III though now.

Annoyingly, CarPlay has always been able to work with Maxidot type displays but nobody supported it. Album art over BT would be great! Can’t wait for that one.

Somewhat. It only ever had one output stream and the frameworks expected a rectangle of about the same size as the range of screens on the Octavia.

iOS13 supports odd shaped displays (e.g. the gap between two circular dials on a virtual cockpit, or the circle one of the "dials") and multiple output streams, so the main display could still show the regular CarPlay screen and the cluster could have areas available to show directions and/or a map. It should be pretty neat, but alas I'd guess it's more one for the Octavia 4.5/5 at this rate as there's a bunch of work for Skoda (Harman?) to do integrating it.

This short WWDC video has good diagrams: https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2019/252/

No, it’s a whole new footrest. One torx screw to remove it and then replace with this one.

Whole interior will be done next week, it’s very grassy in there right now :D

If you chuck a surfboard on the roof you could display it at Donington as influenced by "SURF AND TURF".

SuperSkoda :) unfortunately you’ve just missed a 20% off weekend but they come up from time to time. I’m annoyed with myself because I forgot to add headlight aggressors to the order so I’ll be going without those again :D also got vRS door sill plates for the back to match the front ones but I’ll fit those when I clean the car.

I hope you didn't pay more than £25 for your rear door sill protectors because that's what mine cost from the local dealer.

I did not :) I know they are cheaper here than what SS charge, hence I have never bought them, but with 20% off and the exchange rate it made them £25 so I threw them in as it saves me a TPS visit.

@SashaGrace how have the new rear brakes been? I assume they're bedded in now. I'm interested to see your take on them

They are doing really well, so glad I upgraded!! I need to get Golf 7 PP disc shields for them and I need to do the front pads but the feel is so much more neutral on the 340/310 setup.

That's good to hear. You've the advantage with you tdi having the 340mm brakes up front. I've the 312mm's....... 😥

When I eventually get round to sorting mine I'll upgrade the whole lot; racingline monoblocks on the front and then a set of 310mm rears.

How much do you reckon the conversion has set you back?

A bit because I had to get 2 sets of discs lol, first set was wrong and I’ve had them too long to exchange. Callipers were £110 I think, discs and pads another £120, disc shields are about £40 and new hardware such as longer brake lines and torque to yield bolts etc were about £50. You can get brand new aftermarket ones with all the hardware for not much more but these are OEM TRW callipers and brembo discs and pads so I’m still happy.

That's not too bad to be honest. I've seen online brand new sets of calipers and carriers for around £300 on ebay. Only problem being they're for the R32 and they're blue!!! I don't fancy getting a set and trying to change the colour.

Are there any other websites you'd recommend having a look at in your own experience?

These callipers were originally black. I had to strip and refurb them in red and the paint doesn’t match the front. There are rebuilt ones in red on eBay but the colour doesn’t look as rich. I’ll paint my front ones to match the rear when I change the pads next week. I like eBay for parts because they, along with PayPal protect you when things go wrong.

Fair enough then. I've bought stuff off ebay for the same protection as well.

If that's the case regarding colours, I'll have to take it on the chin and give them to a powder coaters, have them do a proper job rather than me give them a Stevie Wonder paint job 😂

Thanks for your advice any road 👍
