Sat Nav/Radio/Media Controls

Featured Replies

I have a 2013 Skoda Octavia Estate Diesel, Elegance Model.  The internal touch sensitive controls (not the buttons down the sides) for the Radio, Sat Nav and media etc occasionally do not work.  I.e. the screen freezes until I press and hold the on/off button which seems to clear things by re-booting the whole system .  Sometimes when I start the car the unit emits a series of high pitched bleeps after which the problem seems to sort itself out but usually I have to hit "re-boot" as described above.  My car mechanic has suggested taking it to a Skoda dealer and asking them to update the operating system but I thought I would ask here what to do first.  Anyone got any quick fixes?

columbus firmware

That's for the older RNS based units as fitted to the MK2. Different procedure for MK3 MIB units.

OP what unit do you have? Bolero, Amundsen, Columbus?

I think the screen freezing was an issue in some of the older units if I remember correctly from a few years ago.

I think the solution for most people who experienced this was a warrenty replacement of the touchscreen.

Not much help for you as I guess your 2013 MY is out of warrenty now?

You can unofficially try to update the firmware for the Columbus or Amundsen (there are several threads with instructions & download links).

If you know which one you have, someone can direct you to the right link.

Hello to all on here.

im reading with avid interest as I have just bought a VRS  octavia with manual gearbox and this happens to my radio unit. HOWEVER, it ONLY happens when the outside temperature is around 3'C!!! It also only happens when the heated front screen and rear screens are on, with the fan speed set to maximum and the temperature set to Hi.

car is currently in a main dealership tonight for this problem.

your advice from any or all is greatly helpful?

jonathan.

If it turns out to be a new screen I may have one in the garage you can have.  likely to be a fair bit cheaper than from skoda (or even ebay) as I just want some cash back to make xmas less painful financially.

It'll be going on ebay after xmas if not.

Morning

many thanks. Spoke to the garage this morning and they managed to replicate the fault. Skoda UK are fully aware of the fault and it affects all old Amundson units. Skoda Europe also according to the dealership are also aware of this issue hence the swap out on Mk3 Octavias to a plasma screen on Mk4 2013/4 Octavias onwards and to Columbus units🤞 that they fix it under warranty.

Does that mean you are getting a free upgrade to Columbus.  Unclear in your post.
