Had my car almost 2 weeks and it frustrates me the tracking is ever so slightly out. 

 

Did or or does anyone notice this with theirs?

 

I say slightly, it really is slight! Holding the wheel dead on straight it pulls to the left a little. 

 

Not it sure if worth the hassle to fix as it’s so new don’t want them to make it worse and a garage tech messing about. 

 

My OCD doesn’t help!

Mine pulls straight but the steering wheel is slightly off centre

I’ll get on a decent straight flat and try it. But deffo ****es off to the left when holding the wheel straight on. 

 

 

Do you have active lane assist enabled? Just checking

 

Mine does not pull to the left. But I leave mine on active lane assist so above 40mph it will be doing steering input.

Is it just drifting down the camber?

Mine was out too, wheel wasn't centred and car pulled to the left.  I collected the car on a Friday a'noon and called the dealer as soon as I arrived home; it was then booked in for the following Monday and the alignment was completed, it's been fine since. 

 

The dealer *may* argue that it's not their issue if you've already had the car 2 weeks.  They may say you must have hit a pothole or similar.  I just suppose it depends on the customer service ethic of the supplying dealer.  There is a period of XX miles that covers you for anything defects to the car, after this the dealer can declare "I'm sorry Sir, that's wear and tear and not a factory issue", I want to say that it's the first 6k miles on a new car but without checking the manual I can't be 100% sure.

Definitely get it looked at if it's pulling, it'll be wearing the tyres and using more fuel too.  My offset steering wheel is just a minor irritation, not worth the hassle of a trip to the dealer to me.

Judging from the above comments it seems to be a common problem. It should not happen on a new car especially a  flagship model, so I encourage anyone with this fault to at the very least report it to their dealer with a view to informing the Skoda factory that someone or something isn't doing their job correctly and get the production line fixed. Or contact Skoda customer services directly.

 

Offset steering is a problem long term, for wear of tyres, suspension , steering rack and power steering components.

No, not steering assist as I’ve not enabled that yet lol. 

 

I’ll have a decent drive tomorrow and will pop in to the dealer en route home. 

 

Its a PCH so servicing and tyres included. 

 

Never had had this issue with my Octy3 so looks like the garage will need to correct (hopefully FOC)

This can happen after you replace tyres.  Or one of the tyres could be ever so slightly mis-shapen.

 

Had this issue with an Audi before, took it to an alignment specialist and he found the alignment to be perfect.  It was down to tyres which i recently had replaced previously.

Very true.  I had a very condescending Skoda 'Master Technician' spend 45 mins preaching AT me that the alignment issue on my vRS was down to the camber of UK roads.  Whereas the young lad in a local tyre fitters just swapped the wheel onto the other side to prove the tyre was the cause of the issue.  New tyre purchased and off I went. 

 

Checking this morning on many different roads/surfaces and appears to be more that steering wheel isn’t on straight as tracking is actually pretty bob on. 

 

Going to to pop by dealers on way home. 

Booked in for tomorrow. I was going to cancel it as I don’t really want them poking about with it when the cars only done 500 miles!

 

Thry said anything to do with alignment, the ACC needs re calibration which takes about 3-3.5 hours!

 

Hope it’s fixed and not made worse :-/

Got the car back. Still pulls. They said tracking out and adjusted. 

 

They also disconnected my dash cam, despite it being turned off and me leaving a nice note to say it was off and not touch it. They pulled the rear dash camera wire out and and all the wire was pulled out from the headlining leaving the power cable plugged in?! 

 

Complete waste of of a day of them having it. 

 

Not happy.

I suspect they didn't want you seeing what they were or were not doing.

 

Did they give you before and after measurement printout? Were they date and time stamped?

 

Many major tyre places (kwikfit, f1 etc) will do a free alignment check on their laser gear. Maybe have it done and see if its spot on or completely different to the dealers results.

 

Last alignment done at my dealer I suspect was not actually done at all. Took phone calls to Skoda uk to get dealer to give me a printout. Time and date were removed and results were EXACTLY the same as the previous one I had, before they supposedly stripped the suspension completely and changed a number of components. Now the car is wearing outside edge of front tyres badly. I don't have any energy left to argue any more.....

R.e the camera, I know garages get picky, so I left them a note not to clean the car and not to touch the camera as I’d already turned it off. They still decided to pull wore out and follow it along the headlining!

 

Yes there was a printout and it does indeed show it was out. He said that will be submitted to Skoda to pay the warranty claim so I don’t think they have any need not to of done it. 

 

Maybe ik I’m being too picky, tonight I’m a short drive it seemed ok, but it’s more noticeable 60mph plus.

No it’s not true I’m afraid - had my alignment done 3 or 4 times on my Octy with lane assist and ACC, and both continued to work just fine.

 

They will only need recalibrating if the bumper or sensor have been touched, or for lane assist when the screen has been changed. 

 

OP - I would take it somewhere with Hunter 4 wheel alignment (some Kwik Fits do, but they have a less than great reputation) and get everything checked properly.

Thanks, I may go to an independent place to get done, it's worth a suggestion as a resolution. The only thing is that if I let go of the wheel, it's pretty straight on. It's only when I hold the wheel it goes off to the left.

 

I've not had any reply from my dealer, so the finance company (who i'm holding jointly liable for problems) will be assisting to resolve this now.

Working just fine is not the same as calibrated though.

 

All VAG technical information stipulates that calibration of lane Assist and ACC should take place after wheel alignment.

Sorry for the late response, I've been away...

 

It was an alignment issue.  Not sure if the steering wheel hadn't been centred before the alignment was 'done' at the factory but the dealer used another garage within the group to have a 4 wheel alignment check which confirmed it was out.  Returned to me within a few hours and all sorted. 

No problem.

 

Wish mine had been done like that. They did the tracking but it’s still out. 

 

Its gone one a bit quiet now and not heard anything from the garage and finance company. 

 

 

Car was in today again. Had a fair few techs looking at it and they are somewhat puzzled. 

After a few adjustments it’s still the same :(

 

I wonder what this other garage did to yours penguin?

 

Mine will have to go back in again. Its taking the shine off this new car sadly. 

All I was told was that the alignment was out a few degrees so they just addressed that. From memory they took it to their VW franchise who have a Hunter machine. 

 

Look for somewhere local who have a Hunter or similar setup and ask them to check everything.  Also make sure they dead centre the wheel and use the brace to keep it centred.  

 

They should also at least visually check suspension, rod ends etc as part of the service. 

 

Keep the receipt and go straight out on a mixed road test drive and return straight away if it’s still out. 

 

I feel your pain; hope you get this sorted soon.
