What have you done to your Superb III today?

Featured Replies

Today I tried to fit a RPM Performance  Resonator Delete Anti Drone pipe.

Sadly, it wasn't possible.

My assumption that mk7 Golf GTi and mk3 Superb 220 share the same centre resonator box was wrong.

The piping length and angle on the Superb 220 (162TSi) differs to the mk7 Golf GTI, even though it's the exact same engine.

Seems it's only similar up to the downpipe, from them it's different, including the centre resonator box.

This morning I took the car to an Exhaust shop and we put the car up on a hoist to see the fitment.

The piping between the front clamp (to downpipe) and the resonator box is about 2-3 inches short on the resonator delete pipe.

The Superb factory resonator box has a longer pipe length between it and the downpipe clamp.

On the other end, where it bends towards the rear wheel suspension, the angle/curve on the resonator delete pipe is not enough, hence it won't line up.

The factory pipe bends almost 80 deg or so, whilst the resonator delete pipe bends about 60 deg or so.

I should've taken pics when the car was up on the hoist to show the difference.

Disappointed I am, big time. 😪

Given that was probably not cheap, can it be returned?

G13 requires silkat bag to make it last longer, hence does not need to b changed/flushed as often.

G12evo does not require silkat bag, however it is not meant to last long and should be changed/flushed more frequently.

Anyone know if the VAG Silikat cartridge will fit in a standard header tank?

I’ve heard it does but haven’t seen it with my own eyes. Also, the cartridge alone costs circa 20 EUR. I would rather have fresh coolant every other year.

I believe that by removing the silica bag or replacing the expansion bottle with a NON mit silkat bottle you should only use G12 evo antifreeze. The G13 does not give the required protection.

I understand it the same way.

Would b cheaper to cut my losses n sell it to a local Golf GTi owner here in Oz, rather then pay to have it shipped back to the UK, and then pay shipping for the exchanged version.

I've been chatting with RPM Performance in the UK - turns out I should've got the mk3 Octavia RS version!!

I had seen it previously on their website before, but I didn't know they had an Anti-Drone version of it too.

Grrr.....stupid me.

Hard lesson.

In the pic, u can see the difference in angles between the two here.

Could you find a local fabricator that can weld stainless to modify it?

Yup, that's plan B, if there is no interest locally to buy it.

I spoke to two different exhaust shops here n they both said they can "make it fit".

Wow! It seems that you have now a nice 'peace pipe'... 😁

Sorry, not funny.

I would make same same suggestion. Probably the "cheapest" way to sort this out. 🤔

I wish you can find a solution ;)

I’ll get the indy I use to change the coolant when it has its annual oil change next month.

There's a science to the helmholtz resonator. You have to have it matched to your car to cancel out the drone. And obviously it's not cheap.

There isn't an off the shelf option for the superb. Things may seem to be the same on the mqb platform, but they are not.

The cartridge still fails as such from what I saw, that’s if it’s the ones which have a mesh fabric covering the pellets, just like the bag

I’ve seen a plasticky one for Audi. Looked sturdier.

There you go….

Cheers. The mesh seem to endure. It is the seams that fail from what I’ve heard/seen.

dropped another set of €€€ on oil service, new battery (+ coding) and haldex oil (and sieve) change. The difference is astounding. It's very icy up here, I can provoke slides on essentially every corner - and now the power transfer is imperceptible. I didn't realise how obvious it was before.

I will be getting this done more frequently in the future than every three years, that's for sure.

Oh. and now a rear shock is leaking. So, bearing in mind I have the "rough road package" (+15mm), what can I fit? B12 seems reasonable, but the B6 dampers are relatively cheap (no DCC). €700 seems OK for dampers. H&R ARBs front and rear would be good, too... hmm...

rough road package

Do you mean "Scout" version?

no, the +15mm higher version, might be considered to be PPD here? Schlechtwegepaket in German, have to dig my car info PDF out to be clear on what PR codes are installed.

“Rough road package” was an option in the UK as well only for some models-  but not very common at all - 15mm higher plus several additional plastic underbody trays compared to standard.

OK Thanks I didn't know about this option. Never heard about it before. I don't think it was ever proposed in France.

In D only the Scout had it, it was higher and had these plastic panels on it.

PFA - Rough road package in Latvia also were extra, it's different story as Scout

and from owners reports, it is annoying soft, when standard suspension is just lite bit too soft

Is that to be used with G12evo?

Nope. G13 only. Just a fancier container Audis got at the time vs VWs and Skodas’ pouches.

Acquired my 2015 L&K Superb 2.0 TDI on Friday 2nd Feb and a little dismayed to have already encountered a few technical issues despite it being a two owner car with full Skoda history. Naturally no such issues presented themselves on the test drive and I believe the seller when he said it was in perfect running order.

First problem manifested within a few days which is a warning about the directional headlight system not working (has the adaptive xenons) .. from reading around and scanning codes, my HOPE is it's just the control module on the headlight unit itself and I plan to swap them around and see if the fault follows it and then look to buy a replacement / second hand unit.

Secondly on a long drive yesterday had numerous faults light up on the dash at the same time about ABS failure, tyre pressure, and errors relating to stability control.. a scan points to a faulty rear wheel speed sensor.. they're cheap'ish enough so I've ordered one to swap over on the drive in the next few days.

The only other interesting one seems to be that stop/start isn't activated somehow.. doesn't really seem to show any warnings for it, but just doesn't work. I don't particularly care for stop start but it's meant to have it so would be good to try and fix it though I expect that may be a bit more involved...
