We were all set to pull the trigger, then the real range figures came out, to say I was disappointed (sub 200 miles from a claimed almost 290) would be an understatement.

good call. grossly overpriced, imo

Chucked a bucket of water over it. Three hours later this is the result.         Happy with that

TBH I was sold on the car after the test drive, really well built and pretty nippy (understatement of the year!).

If they can get one to do 250 miles then I would be happy.

Ultimately now SWMBO has taken delivery of her ID.3 Tour the BM will be more than adequate for my needs.

Developed a fault with xenon headlights, orange exclamation with something about steerable headlights. Headlights not doing their usual dance but pointing at the ground a few feet in front of the car. Just as well it's nearly summer!

Hmmm, out with the VCDS. Headlight module reporting "databus error", not helpful! So one thinks-bubble later, I had a look at the suspension module and sure enough "front nearside suspension level sensor" broken. This sensor is of course used to vertically adjust the headlights according to load in the car etc. I had a good fiddle with the connector but to no avail, as soon as I cleared the fault code it popped up again.

So on to ebay, sourced a new sensor for £55 and it arrived today. Off with the wheel, popped the connector off, removed one nut and one bolt holding the old sensor on. Despite these being located in the wheel bay area and the car now being 5 years old, both came off amazingly easily! New sensor installed, connector popped back on, fault codes cleared and good to go. I wonder how much all that would have cost at a dealer?

Well done Nick 👍 I dread to think what a dealer would charge you for the privilege! Diagnosis, parts, labour....multiple hundreds I'm sure.

With a Velvet Red machine, you can really only have red ambient lighting (in my humble opinion), so I took the easy route and applied some rear light repair tape to the footwell lights, works a treat (pictures are slightly washed out by the garage lights).

Then, still on the red theme, for some inexplicable reason I detest seeing the paint on the window frames. I've managed to cure those feelings of hatred by applying black velvet Fablon (sticky black plastic). I made up templates with masking tape and it's come out perfectly on the front and rear doors.

^ Man after my own heart, great job. It bugs me too. Did you peel back the window rubbers and what does it look like with the door open?

Yes, I slipped the window rubbers back and that was easy and give a perfect finish line to the seen part. I managed to curb any OCD failings to the line you can only see when the door is open, it's good but not perfect! The final shape was also dictated a bit by the window frame shape (edges and fold lines) to ensure the Fablon stuck down nicely.

I did the long runs in single pieces then short bits for the tighter curves. The black absorbs light well which makes the pictures difficult but you don't see the joins in real life.

I used masking tape for the initial templates, pencil line, cut out and transfer to the Fablon backing and use that Fablon piece for the mirror image for the opposite door.

When I had the Yetis I was always going to do it but never did. The first Yeti was white so wasn't too bad and I coped with the bronze of the second two Yetis (L&K brown leather interior) and with the Citigo there was no choice - there was more red paint on the inside of the doors than black panels.

With the really high quality Sportline Plus interior on the Superb, it had to be done. It came out better than I thought and am very pleased with the finished job.

Haldex oil change and screen cleaning

Actually I'm lying since I did this a week or so ago but I didn't find the time to post it here too, still i think it'd be interesting for others to see what a Haldex screen looks like after just 22K km and 2 years of age, (albeit one that has seen its fair share of Launch Control)

Remember, this is an item that is supposed to never be disassembled and cleaned during the lifetime of the car, just an oil change is foreseen every 30K km... :worried::worried:

It'll be on my private maintenace schedule every 12-18 months depending on usage and signs of clogging (trumping during launching or when the AWD should be fully engaged).

The Haldex reset after cleaning seems to have helped too.

Pretty similar to mine after about 30k miles. And the oil was full of black gloop too! Definitely something I’ll be doing again soon!

@newbie69 Good job ! ;)

30k miles is more understandable, mine was at less than half that mileage (22k km = ~ 14k miles) which is rather shocking.

Mine was in similar condition after 45000 km. But it's a stock TDI190, may be I'm less tempted to 'smash' the throttle :notme:... It's not a sleeper as a TSI280... :giggle:

Managed to find some used Leyo paddle extensions in black from eBay, which arrived today. Only £40 - very impressed with the look and quality. Not sure I'd pay the retail of around £150, so chuffed to get them at this price!

Had 2000 miles showing for adblue range so bought Greenchem 10litre and it took it al.

The display said 2gallon max (why in gallon in UK i’m not too sure as everything is litres these days) 2 gallon works out as 9litre but it didn’t come out from excess juice at all so no problemo.

Now says 8000 miles, so in about 8 years time i’ll refill 🤣

Because that’s what the car has been set to show, you can change it in the infotainment

Does changing it effect anything else like digital speed then displaying kilometres instead of miles?

Not unless you change those as well.

Take a look, it is self explanatory in what it changes.

Got the chance to play with the Lane Assist now it’s coded and it’s the biggest thing I missed from the Octy retuned!

It’s so odd seeing the extra lights and feeling it doing it’s thing again haha

Yes, a passenger took the photo.

Took a full vcds admap of module 5f, Removed the MIB2 columbus unit and screen and installed columbus MIB2.5 with 9. 2 screen which I got from ebay.

Took a full vcds admap of new unit, used winmerge to compare adaptations and set it up properly for my car as my old MIB2 was, updated  nav maps to 2021, updated to latest firmware, installed mib toolbox, tomorrow will do component protection removal and enable video in motion

Took today off work to tackle the whistling air noise in between drivers door and door trim caused by the HVAC. This started after work was done on that door by the panel beater and has been ****ing me off for over a month now.

After procrastinating half the day and getting the remaining things I needed to start the job from the hardware store, I watched @digifish’s video and started the process.

Thankfully I didn’t have to remove the whole door trim as I immediately noticed they forgot to attach the drain hose from the umbrella compartment into the door itself.

Popped it back in, clipped the trim back, turned on the car and prayed the noise had gone and thankfully that did the trick.

Amazing how one misplaced thing can make such a noise..

Video for reference:

I wish I had put a video camera on a tripod and filmed the whole thing start to end. Its easy to get seasick watching that :)

Its most useful to let you know what you are in for and not to be deterred.

Glad you found it useful. The main problem for me at the start was how to get the window switches out.

Haha, it was more than helpful

I made an attempt on the window switches but it was going to take more force than I was willing to apply, and thankfully wasn’t needed in the end

Yeah. I needed brutal levels of force...hence snapping the two rearmost clips. But I was also working blind. Knowing where everything was I did the passenger side without incident.

I think what snapped them was me sliding the pry tool in too deep and shearing them off
