What have you done to your Superb III today?

Called AutoGlass to report stone chip to Windscreen that was kicked up by a VW Transporter Van last night.  Right in line of sight, about 1cm at core, extending to 2cm. New windscreen required.  Only 1 month in as well :crying:

This is on a fairly new stretch of the M8 that was recently completed as well

Gutter!! At least it was only a stone chip, and not one of thess giant rocks crumbling off our roads in the central belt. Every drive is becoming a slalom of giant pothole avoidance

:crying: Gutted Chas. One positive, at least it wasn't on the paintwork!

This is true, hopefully the replacement has the same solar reflective effect on the factory fitting.  Not even had a chance to use the ticket holder!

I've never dried my car like this before; does it take long?

Lol, unconventional I know.

But on a good day, it will dry overnight ;-)

Been hopeful isn't gonna cut it. You need to insist that the screen is OEM or there is a very good possibility that it won't meet your expectations.

Well, it arrives this afternoon so we will see.  Interestingly, which I didn't know until further discussion with LV insurance, you can route this through a dealer which is arguably better as any related issues following replacement are obviously manufacturer warranty backed. However, the dealers simply outsource the work to Autoglass or equivalent anyway, so you will end up with the same glass regardless.  You also need to front the whole replacement cost and then claim it back, less your excess. I couldn't get a dealer to look at until w/c 7th, need the car for the holidays and would rather not be driving around with a damaged screen until then, so just going direct with AutoGlass for convenience of to my door service and only the excess to stump up.  I don't have a camera so no calibration required (I think), just heating element and rain sensors.  I have every faith they will do a top job :worried:

I've looked at her and decided HMS Sportline is need of a clean....just need a gap in this shi77y weather :@

@Chas51, as @Matchman55 said, insist on OEM glass (maybe it's too late now). Most insurers have an unwritten policy that if the car is under 2 or 3 years old (I forget which, probably 2), they will use manufacturer's original glass if you request it. If you don't request it, they'll give you standard glass (which is exactly the same standard, but doesn't have the manufacturer's logo on it). I have used this route a couple of times on lease cars in the past few years, and never had any issues. Obviously it costs the insurer more, which is why they don't offer it as standard, but it doesn't cost you any more on your excess; you just have to ask when you speak to them.

Again, it makes no difference at all to the quality of the glass, but it's nicer to have the original glass installed IMO.

Thanks for that. And to get OEM glass, would you expect to be able to request this through AutoGlass or have to go through a dealer?   When claiming via LV, by default you go direct to AG who already had all my details.  The call-centre staff didn't really seem to know what they were looking at initially, until I insisted the screen was heated. They said there was two options of which the one that was ordered was more expensive at ~£800.  On the plus-side, I personally know the AG fitter who is coming, but he has already said it won't be manufacturer stamped.   If I'm not happy I'll turn them away but as I said I need the car and would prefer not be driving about with a duff, screen.

@Chas51 you should be able to request through AutoGlass. Often it takes much longer to be delivered, as they don't normally keep OEM glass in stock. Call centre agents are usually fairly clueless when you ask about OEM, but you have to be persistent and keep asking.

Parked it up and locked it. It won't move again until the new year. Happy Christmas all!

Glorious morning earlier so spent a couple of hours with my 5 year old grandson giving the beast a much needed clean (I think this is the dirtiest she’s ever been). The wife dragged us both out for some late crimbo shopping, was able to finally get a half reasonable photo with my new winter tyres on (Crossclimates 235/45/18) with my 18” trinitys originally on my Superb 2. Not really full winters I know but more than enough here right on the south coast.

So I got OEM like for like glass by default, engineer said that the screens are relatively new and had only fitted one other on a golf.  Was pretty impressed with the service, was interesting to watch him.  Is doing up to 8 per day at the moment!  He did point out a previously unseen scratch though..!

@Chas51 great to hear!

  Cheers for the advice, also @Matchman55, everyday is a school day!

That's a relief!

top up 1l 5w30 Castrol Edge Longlife
some why just after 3k km, previously it asked on 7.6k, 7.7k, 7.8k, 5.6k, 6.6k km

and didn't asked when were filed 5w40 instead 5w30

replacing oil always prematurely - on 6.5k, 8.9k, 10.8k, 10.5k, 8.8k, 6.1k, 8.6k km

Been caught out by a closing boot!

Sat on open boot shelf bending over putting ski boots on with KESSY key in pocket.  Boot starts closing!!!

As you  might imagine hopping round with one boot on and snow and ice on the ground trying to press the button on the boot to stop it closing appeared quite  amusing to the kids .

Also got it very dirty over the last 6 days.  Oh we'll it will give me something to do on Christmas Day to keep out of the way:dull:

Yesterday drove back 1300 KM from Austria to the UK and it rained for 11 hrs,  cleaned the wheels quite well but the rest of the car is mankey.

All in apart from the obligatory staus near Munich and Stuttgart all was good.

Snow tyres not really tested as although there was snow on the ground very little was on the roads but better to have and not need rather than not have.

ACC brilliant although when I suggested I have a sleep and the wife should steer from the passenger seat and the speed was covered she didn't seem taken by the idea:worried:

DLA, forced reduction in SLA due to driving on right, a waste of time never once operated!

Fuel in Luxembourg is CHEAP I can see why the French are getting their yellow jackets out.

Drove back from the girlfriends in Norfolk ready for a very early start tomorrow's drive down to just outside Bath for Xmas

Similar to @Prykey. Just filled the tank for the second ever time. I started with what I thought was just under half a tank and managed to still pop in around 41 litres  Damn that tank is huge!

...well last Friday actually - 4 new Michelin pilot sport 4S. On 19” wheels, a rather painful £714 from blackcircles. Khumos only did 11,000 miles so I’m hoping these do better.

I de-badged.....

Then I re-badged......

Now it's complete.....

Ouch! Early Christmas present for the car though  I hope they last a while with your heavy feet!
