Infotainment retrofitting

I am SUPER SUPER Happy!!!! @pab567@SashaGrace

A little while back, I spoke to @pab567 who organised me a reworked MIB2.5 Columbus system ( Columbus MIB2.5 unit 565035021x (with DAB, with premium Bluetooth, with LTE Modem)  for my 2019 Octavia Scout.

Trying to find a 9.2" screen for this system has proved to be EXTREMELY hard work.   Forget ebay - bunch of half-broken screens.... My local Skoda dealer poo-poo'd my upgrade - told me not to bother....however, I have just come off the phone from Hortons Skoda in Lincoln [Matthew in the parts department] (theskodashop.co.uk) who have managed to organise me a NEW SCREEN for headunit.  Part number for those who need it is: 5E0919606DBIO .  I was struggling, because I was missing the last three characters.  This is now FIXED - and a new screen will be send to me in the next couple of days.  I am so SUPER happy about this - really want to see what my new system looks like......(kid in sweetshop).

Cost of new screen - £703.44 + £5.95 for delivery

  • @nori you have Amundsen MIB2 MY16, non-DAB. You can use any of screens you mentioned (3V0919606, 3V0919605D), they are P&P, just note in case of 3V0919605D you will get a little space between the

Folks - I am speak with @SashaGrace, but wanted to try and move myself to the Columbus system from my Amunsden system.

Keen to have a go myself; got my screen and MIB system.  I've got my 4 Radio Removal keys - the only thing I think I am missing is a 32G Card for the Columbus system for the maps.....I've got a 32G card for the Amunsden systemm - can I use that card??

Hits and tips greatfully received.

No, the Amundsen uses different maps to the Columbus.

It uses different maps but I thought you could use any SD/USB to update it?

I believe if you put the correct maps on the Amundsen SD, the Columbus will still be able to use/copy them without an issue? :)

I got the impression that OP was asking whether he could update his Columbus with the original Amundsen maps on the SD card - since he made no mention of replacing the maps with the correct Columbus ones?

Of course if he quick formats the SD card and downloads the Columbus maps onto it then it should work.

Yes, got the same message from @SashaGrace re: SD Card so I've started the process of downloading the maps.....will put together a How-To for doing this process.

Thanks

"x" at the end of Columbus units model number is letter A/B/C/D. Can also be missing. It makes no difference, just indicates original SW release family.

@pab567can i just check this with you please - I am looking at second hand Columbus units (565035021x) and there are some differences in prices being charged for A,B,C,D versions. Can I just buy the cheapest version? Is there any advantage at all to getting a 'D' version, like more software updates available or something? Thanks.

Yes, you can get the cheapest version and have it upgraded to the most recent version.

Long shot ,but here i go. I was looking to retrofit a mib2 on my  mk3 vrs i was searching my local listings and they are not so many. Is it posible to retrofit a mib2 after a superb ? or kodiaq or even mk7 or passat ? I'm sure this info is here somewhere but i didn't find it all. Is the list in the first post updated ? Thanks in advance !

what age is your VRS? Assuming it is a 2013 to 2016 car.

It’s a 2014

It should be possible for the latest MIB2.5 system (either Amunsden or Columbus) but you just won't have any Skoda Connect services available to you. Remember that as well as factoring in the cost of the unit and screen, the unit needs to be jail-broken and comfigured for your car too. What is your budget? Columbus screens and MIB2.5 units are expensive (mine cost me 1100ukp to upgrade), but Amunsden systems are cheaper and are good units and you can pick these up for about 300-400quid).

Hey guys, need some advice, i have a MY2016 superb combi, with an MIB2 Columbus, im looking to upgrade to MIB 2.5, and a newer Columbus, now, what would i gain, other then a nicer looking screen, can i get wireless android auto, and apple car play? And what about the skoda connect? will i be able to use it, as i do have a car with webasto which i would love to controll via the app! Im looking for an 565035021X HU, and a 3V0919606D screen? I assume i can keep al my functions that i have now, meaning i will be able to controll and program my webasto on the screen, as well as have my park pilot and camera still work on the new MIB 2.5?

Thnx in advance

I think your unit might be flashed to mib2.5, so you will change only the display. @pab567 knows more about it, try to reach him via PM

Definitely not wireless Android auto or Carplay - you need MIB3 for this.

I have a Kodiaq, so it may not be the same, but for me the difference between MIB2 and MIB 2.5 columbus would be:

- Compatibility with virtual cockpit. MIB2 cannot send maps to VC, and cannot change some of the view settings.

-Different layout on the screen, carousel in MIB2, grid in MIB2.5

-Compatibility with 'Media Command' app.

- If you replace the MIB2 unit with an MIB2.5 unit (not just flash it), you can also have a SIM slot in the glovebox. But as far as I know you would also need to install the antennas under the rear bumper if you want to use this, e.g for Skoda Connect

Not sure if there is anything else? @pab567is definitely the man to ask.

Thanks, one of my main objective is to get skoda connect, as i do have a car with a webasto, so for me to be able to start it without the remote, over phone would be nice, and yes i do plan to retrofit the VC, and i already have the mib 2 with sim, so i have the antennas, i as well already have DAB, so no new wires i guess.. Ill try to source an MIB 2.5 with LTE, DAB, for me the premium bluetooth is not as important, as i always use android auto/apple carplay for the wife.

But for Skoda Connect, i have been told that Skoda dealers wont let you have it if your VIN number did not come with one, so im kinda reluctant on pulling the trigger, as that is my top priority, togheter with VC retrofit..

Ill try to get in touch with Pab, and see if he has any advice! Thank you guys!

@bubib5 I don't think Skoda Connect will work with a retrofitted MIB2.5...

As you say, your VIN won't be listed as compatible on the VAG/Skoda servers so I'd be very surprised if it did :)

Yeah, i would be surprised as well, the thing is that the set comes at around 1.100 EUR, sourced from Ebay, so im reluctant to spend that much money just to have a bigger full touchscreen.. As all i need i have now, so i might abort that upgrade, and use that money on some visual upgrades, rather than a fancy screen, that wont bring me anything i dont have now, like DAB, Sim card, SD cards, i even have premium bluetooth now.. so i guess ill just pull the plug, and use that on exterior mods.. The only thing, if i do the VC retrofit, not sure which functions of the VC i loose if i keep mib 2?

I retrofitted a VC on to a MY18 so it already had a MIB2.5 Amundsen so I didn't need to upgrade/change anything apart from adding a MOST (optical) cable and buttons with 'View' rather than 'Phone'.

I think you'll miss out on:

- Map display on the VC

- VC options screen on the radio

Not sure about what else or if anything else on a MY16 would need replacing. @pab567 can certainly rework various MIB2 into a MIB2.5 so it would just be finding a 9.2" screen, most have a hardware fault which causes a vertical line unfortunately...

I have VC with MIB2 Columbus at the moment. It's exactly as @langers2k has said: you won't be able to have map display on the VC (personally I don't care about this), and you won't have the VC settings page on the infotainment, which allows you to customise what information is displayed on the two side displays of the VC (the space within each of the two dials). You can still choose between 3 or 4 different pre-set configurations of these views, you just can't choose exactly what you want on there. I'm annoyed by this, but not enough to upgrade to MIB2.5. You can still switch between the five main VC views (sport, minimal, etc..), and can choose whatever you want to display in the centre portion of the display - because you use the steering-wheel buttons to change these options, not the infotainment.

If you prefer, you can have your unit reworked to MIB2.5 for around €200 (Pawel will tell you current prices..), and buy a used screen for roughly another €200 (EDIT: sorry, this is based on the cost of the Kodiaq MIB2.5 screen, I'm not sure how easy to find or how expensive the Superb screen is). There may also be some risk of bricking your unit with this route, Pawel can advise you further. Good luck!

Hi guys, I have a octavia 3 2015 Amundsen MIB1 (see photo), what's a good upgrade for this? I found someone here in spain that for 750€ can change to mib2 (sd navigation), usb,  screen 8" (the one with physical buttons), installation, and codding after. I´m guessing the MIB unit must be one of the early once since it has sd navigation. What would be a good upgrade for me?

Thank you.

Hi Pab, thank you for posting.

How do I know which equipment I have on Octavia 2014. It has DAB, Bluetooth.  I saw some head units ( looks the same) that has SatNav Button instead of Setup one on mine (top one on the right of head unit) and wondered if I could just replace it for one of them and have SatNav or if I buy one new Android radio from eBay, what would happens with the functions that show car information? And if it was possible and easy to do myself. I am able to remove radio and connect another one, but ignorant of all the stuff that it has to be taken in consideration, no experience in this car.

Easy. Press and Hold the Menu button until you get to a hidden screen. Go to Version and Version Information and send us a photo of that screen.

Hi thank you.

Here is the photos, I want to know if I can just buy the front panel with SatNav or Chinese radio Android with GPS and just plug and play.

What would happen with the information that radio actually give, for example, consumption and that.

I look forward for help.

Have a read of this thread, some android units will still allow you to view and change car settings, some (i believe) do not
