Hi, i have one vw mib2 pq std 2016year navigation. Unit make restarting show only logo for 7-8sec and restart again logo. Possible fix it with software or need repair?

thx

first thing I would look at is see if there are any fault codes generated in the nav unit using VCDS etc.

don't know where Your based and Covid 19 distancing may make it awkward but there is a list somewhere on this site listing people with VCDS (inc me) most of whom would be happy to read faults for you. (I am in Lincolnshire near Sleaford).

if not look up retrofitting as there is a Guru who can do lots of coding etc on the latest units who posts on there who is very helpful and should know wether a software reset or reload is likely to work.

finally if it’s just happened and there is no reason for it consider your consumer rights.

despite being out of dealer/ manufacturer warranty cars are subject to the usual consumer protection and that includes components.

they should last as long as a reasonable person would expect them to. Up to a max of six years.

So no chance on worN out brake pads but expensive electronic units would reasonably expected to last 6 years and manufacturers still have some liability for out of warranty units (don’t take a no from the dealer, insist on contact with manufacturers customer services and don’t take no for an answer.

good luck

So I just purchased a 2014MY Octavia RS and my wife is adamant on having carplay here in Australia. If I'm correct, I currently have a Columbus MIB1 and to achieve this, my easiest route is to get an MIB2 Columbus unit and my screen would not need to be replaced. Programming would have to be done on the new MIB2, and I would need a new USB interface, but other than that I should be good to go...or am I way off base here. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You will need component protection removed and then the new unit coded to activate stuff and get it matched to the car functions.

Yes you are right that the screen you have is fine.  It's the only MIB1 screen that works with MIB2 hardware.

Ok last question I hope. If I were to purchase the 3vxxxx21c, could I take it to Škoda and have them remove content protection and active car functions, do it myself, or find other options to have it done.

Dealer should be able to remove CP. Coding needs specialist kit. Vcds/obd11 will not be enough. Pab567 on here should be able to point you in the right direction.

@dpeoples37 dealer will NOT be able to have SmartLink activated in new unit. To get SmartLink activated new unit must be hacked. IMHO there are 3 options and 2 of them that make sense. I have ordered thmem from cheapest to the most expensive one.

1. replace glove box unit with Amundsen MIB2 (5Q0035864x, 5Q0035874x), preferably MY18 version (SW starts with 04, e.g. 0478). Disadvantages: no CD/DVD playback, no video files playback. only standard Bluetooth module (no LTE modem). Advantages: works with screen you currently have (although you can switch to facelift screen 5E0919605M whenever you want), supports Active Info Display, modern interface (grid menu with color pictures, switchable to old carousel style with monochrome icons).

2. replace glove box unit with Columbus MIB2 (3V00350xx). Disadvantages: only old carousel style with monochrome icons menu, no Active Info Display support. Advantages: works with screen you currently have (although you can switch to facelift screen 5E0919605M whenever you want), some versions are equipped with premium Bluetooth (including LTE modem).

3. replace glove box unit with Columbus MIB2.5 (5650350xx). Disadvantages: requires new expensive screen 5E0919606D. Advantages: supports Active Info Display, modern interface (grid menu with color pictures, switchable to old carousel style with monochrome icons), some versions are equipped with premium Bluetooth (including LTE modem).

If you have issues with finding required units locally pls contact me on PM - I have a friend in Baulkham Hills who should be able to help you.

Adding LTE modem is usually not possible as motherboards in units not equipped with LTE modem do not have the connector required to install LTE modem. However, if motherboard is exceptionally equipped with LTE modem connector then it can be done - but I have found such case only once.

4 (3V0035020x) can be reworked into 8 (565035020x). You can not do it by yourself, sorry 😞

If upgrading a head unit from one without LTE modem to one with, what antenna is needed and where does it go in the car?

Two antennas mounted under the rear bumper in left and right corner

Thaks SashaGrace.  I have actually purchased a service Manual online and it confirmed your advice.

Problem is that the part I purchased was listed for a Golf with the suffix J instead of E and has a different plug..... 😒   My Bad for not paying attention to the detail.!

Guess I will have to look further for an E variant..

I'm just going though the process of upgrading my 2016 Octavia mib1 Amundsen to a mib2.5 Columbus and suspect (I haven't opened up the car yet) I will need the new 5Q0035726E USB for the Android/Apple mirror phone link. I can see the connectors are slightly different. Do I also need to replace the connecting cable or will the same cable work with a little trimming on the cable connector with the new USB? Looks to me that trimming the plug at the South Eastern corner should work if the wiring of the cable pin outs are the same.

Hi @pab567,

I have a 2015 Octavia RS with Canton sound system and MIB1. I believe mine is a Columbus unit and the screen measures at 8 inches.

To get MIB2 with Apple Carplay, I assume I can get away with the components in option 2 as described to dpeoples37?

@SashaGrace, because I have a canton sound system, I also understand a MIB2 amplifier would be required?

@Jbeat, I went with option 1. Works great. MIB2 with Apple CarPlay. I did have to get a MIB2 amplifier from Pab. He’s an absolute pleasure to work with. Everything came pretty much plug and play and has been running like a champ ever since. I just installed an aftermarket reversing cam on it.

This is good to hear. There's a lot of questions I have around this retrofit still. For example, my car was optioned with the "Tech Pack" here in Australia which provides the front and rear parking sensors plus rear parking camera, adaptive cruise control, parking assist (self park) and Canton sound system. Because the parking sensors and camera show on the 8 inch display, I'm guessing this will all appear when the new MIB2 unit is coded?

Also, once coded does the car retain the correct startup graphics for the vRS and correct image of the car in the car data screen? It would be irritating if it showed the graphic for another Skoda.

Yes to all of that. Lol. It all works. Gotta send a file of the options specific to your car from VCDS and it will all be programmed to your new unit. It will be explained to you like it was explained to me if you pull the trigger. The picture on the front of my unit is of a MY18, but it’s still a škoda estate.

@echogolf 5Q0035726J will work too, you just have to trim the plug that goes into it so it can be pgysucally connected.

@Jbeat if you are fine with your display then Amundsen MIB2 will be the perfect solution. CANTON amplifier must be changed to MIB2 version :(

@pab567, thanks for that. I was really wondering if I also needed to replace the cable already in my car that connects to the USB as well as the USB end component. 5Q0035726E on their own are relatively quick and easy to find locally on eBay. The cables seem to need buying new from somewhere and that takes longer.

Hi,

My wife's 2013 Octavia Elegance has an issue with the infotainment system where it powers on but goes into a boot loop: shows the usual ‘Welcome to Skoda’ screen then gets stuck on the Menu for a few mins before restarting again. The screen won’t respond to any touches at all and I’ve tried the soft reset method several times with no luck.

Took it to the local Skoda dealership here in Australia who advised that the glovebox unit was faulty and quoted us over 8,000 AUD for a replacement!  So I've started looking at some used examples on Ebay and from local salvage yards.

The unit we currently have is an MIB1 with the part number 5E0 035 045 A. The screen is the 8inch version (pictured below) but I'm not sure of the exact part number and unfortunately unable to retrieve it given the system isn't working. It also has navigation and is Canton.

Just wondering how interchangeable other units are with the screen we currently have? Unfortunately I've been unable to find a direct replacement on Ebay and I would really prefer to only have to replace the glovebox unit and not the screen if possible.

Am I able to simply replace the existing unit with any MIB2 unit such as 3V0 035 045 B without needing to replace any other component such as the amp or screen?

I understand any replacement unit will require content protection to be removed but the service dept at the dealership have said that they are happy to remove this for me and code it to the car.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

That screen should work with many mib2 units as it is a Columbus mib2 screen. If going down the mib2 route you will need a new amp and then that will need CP removal with the head unit CP work. Could work out quite expensive to get an amp too so look into how much it is for mib1 replacement and see if the difference is worth having carplay/Android auto.

Ok so essentially, even if I could source a used MIB2 unit, I'm still going to be up for replacing the amp with one thats MIB2 compatible to get the system up and running? If so then yep it looks like this is going to end up being quite expensive!

I'm not that concerned with Android Auto for this car. It's never had it so I was hoping that replacing the unit with an MIB2 unit would just give me all of the functions the car already had prior to it failing. If somehow it got Android Auto without making any other system changes (apart from a new USB connector) then that would be a bonus.

I've been struggling to find any MIB1 units around, they've mainly only been MIB2 or 2.5. I'll keep looking but I haven't got much hope. The alternative would be to go down the aftermarket route I suppose.

Thanks for your response, much appreciated!

You saw the route I went listed above with Pab. Get with him, he will get you squared away if he’s still doing it. It’s not gonna be cheap regardless, so if you have to replace it, you might as well go through someone reputable and get an upgrade to Apple CarPlay than trying to get a used set off of eBay that may or may not work and won’t be programmed to your vehicle. He got me squared away, shipped to my house, plug and play ready except for content protection on the amp. (It worked, but I only had one speaker). I can only say kind words about the guy.

Hi all, hope someone can help. I’m looking to get CarPlay into a 2016 Yeti, the head unit has the smart link option but when selected it simply tells you to contact your dealer to have it activated. From reading through I hear it’s £136 or more for this to be done at the dealer?

the unit is info is:

Device part number: 5L0035200D

Hardware: H31

Software: 0359

Is it worth simply submitting to the will of a dealers prices, or are there other options that would give a bigger screen, better features?

You need an RCD330 that’s Skoda specific. Look for one of those. They have them for VW (I have purchased one) but it has red buttons instead of green.

@Rgrc29 - The Bolero you have is one of the best headunits for the Yeti. The only 'better' options from Skoda would be the:

- Bolero 5L0035200E which adds DAB

- Amundsen 5L0035680D which adds satnav

- Amundsen 5L0035200E which adds DAB and satnav

None of these have bigger screens or any additional features aside from the differences mentioned above. If carplay is your only want, I'd suggest paying the upgrade cost for smartlink as it'll be by far the cheapest solution to your problem :)

I would ignore the RCD330 suggestion, your current headunit is better, more stable and a cheaper route to carplay.

If you do want a bigger screen, you'll need to look at aftermarket solutions

Due to high number of requests let me make some short summary of units that can be installed in Octavia III cars. I have focused only on MIB2 / MIB2.5 units, to indicate differences between them.

1. Amundsen MY16 unit 5Q0035864A (without DAB) or 5Q0035874A (with DAB)

2. Amundsen MY17 unit 5Q0035864B (without DAB) or 5Q0035874B (with DAB)

3. Amundsen MY18 unit 5Q0035864C (without DAB) or 5Q0035874C (with DAB)

4. Columbus MIB2 unit 3V0035020x (with DAB, with regular Bluetooth, without LTE Modem)

5. Columbus MIB2 unit 3V0035021x (with DAB, with premium Bluetooth, with LTE Modem)

6. Columbus MIB2 unit 3V0035043x (without DAB, with regular Bluetooth, without LTE Modem)

7. Columbus MIB2 unit 3V0035044x (without DAB, with premium Bluetooth, with LTE Modem)

8. Columbus MIB2.5 unit 565035020x (with DAB, with regular Bluetooth, without LTE Modem)

9. Columbus MIB2.5 unit 565035021x (with DAB, with premium Bluetooth, with LTE Modem)

10. Columbus MIB2.5 unit 565035043x (without DAB, with regular Bluetooth, without LTE Modem)

11. Columbus MIB2.5 unit 565035044x (without DAB, with premium Bluetooth, with LTE Modem)

All MIB2 units (as well as Columbus MIB1 which is not listed here) work with 800x480 pixels screens, either 6.5 or 8 inch.

Amundsen MY16 has old style (rotating, monochrome) menu, with only 1 skin having 5 memory buttons in radio and phone menu. They  don't support for APP key in 8 inch FL screens.

Amundsen MY17 has old style (rotating, monochrome) menu, with 2 skina having 5 or 6 memory buttons in radio and phone menu. It may also support Media Command (depneding on FEC.SWaP codes installed).

Amundsen MY18 has both old style (rotating, monochrome) and new style (pictures, color) menu, with 2 skina having 5 or 6 memory buttons in radio and phone menu. It may also support Media Command (depneding on FEC.SWaP codes installed).

Columbus units have built-in DVD drive and HDD for maps and audio / video files.

Only Coilumbus units can play video files.

Every MIB2 Columbus unit can be reworked into MIB2.5 unit if required. MIB2.5 Columbus requires new 9.2" screen 5E0919606D.

Every Columbus unit can drive directly subwoofer and central speaker (although this setup is not officially supported by Skoda).

"x" at the end of Columbus units model number is letter A/B/C/D. Can also be missing. It makes no difference, just indicates original SW release family.

Every of listed above units can be reworked into Plug&Play version (no need to visit SKODA dealer).

I have the MIB1 unit in a skoda octavia 3 2015

and I am planning on retrofitting the MIB 2.5 unit with 9.2” display

part number 565035021a.

but in Egypt they know nothing about coding or activation so I will get component protected and I wont get apple carplay, android auto or offline maps.

Can you help me with someone who can activate them remotely?

thank you
