I actually own an Octy TDi, but on taking it in for a service was given a Fabia TDi as a hire car.

I distinctly noticed that the engine was driving in a very much more petrol like fashion that my 110TDi and the previous TDi Fabias I have driven.

The car struggles a little bit when first pulling away at low revs and felt really slow to accelerate and very short on torq compared to my octy, even though this has the PD 105 TDI engine which has on paper more torque than my 110. Hit 2.5k revs though and the thing ate up the remaining revs right up to the redline and went like a fruit cake.

It felt just like my dads TDCI focus, eg nothing down low, good high up and he is always commenting what a joy mine is to drive around town due to the low down torque.

Additionally when sat in traffic the car idles unevenly, like my brothers old carb based fiesta does when it's cold and underfueled.

Hope this is of use to you guys.

EDIT: Oh the car had about 550 miles on it when i got it and about 700 when i gave it back. The car did the same both ends of the journey which was a longish m/way of about 60-70 miles each way.

Mine did it for the first time in crawling traffic yesterday. 1800 (or so) rpm, just after overrun.

If it's any help I have a octy 1.9TDi PD today as a hire car due to the service not doing the brake fluid and that runs fantasticly with no stutter or roughness, unlike the fabia. Since it's the same block I'd reckon on it being ECU or similar.

My fathers focus 1.8TDCi had a warrenty remap for a very similar problem where the engine would sometimes even cut out. He was told it was a bad ECU map and that ford had issued a new one.

Sure enough all fixed after that.

i have noticed that mine is stuttering in 4th gear just under 2000rpm (last 2 outings, 1700 miles on it now i think)

ONLY on very light throttle, like just touching the pedal. Not to bothered about it, just put foot on a bit more or keep foot off.

If the problem occurs during low revv's could it just not be the turbo spoolig on/off as my 54 reg vRS does this, best to drive it at around 2k rpm and above.

Evening guys

Just found this on seat cupra.net

see what you all think! maybe some help!!

http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=26450&highlight=stut

Iv'e got my vrs booked in with sherlodge (wigmore kent ) within the next couple of weeks, so again fingers crossed:) I also have been talking to a contact at skoda uk, he's ment to be getting back to me next week with somemore info!!

my 06 has done nearly 800miles now and at one point I thought the problem was going away, but then it re-appears.

Iv'e owned vag diesels before and never had this stutter, I even started to question my driving but being in the motor trade for 20years I can definately say this fault belongs to skoda:rolleyes:

It will be interesting to see what is happening with all you fellow stutterers (what feed back you getting from your dealers

My '06 vRS was at the dealer two weeks ago; they contacted Skoda UK who said they were aware of the problem and had contacted "the factory" for a fix. Having heard nothing, I called Skoda UK today. They say they have only been aware of the problem for three weeks (I doubt that from the posts here!) and they have two cars at the UK technical centre, which they are working on. They have no fix at present and I just don't believe they will come up with one.

I think those of us who feel strongly enough should write to our supplying dealers (copying Skoda UK) threatening to reject the cars if no fix is found within 30 days. Does anyone agree? If we leave it too long we'll be past the "reasonable period" for a full rejection.

All you 06ers are making me feel left out.

My Dec 06 55 Plate has a slight stutter between 1600 - 1900 rpm on light throttle applications. And its not turbo lag.

And you cant make any comparison to the Pug 1.9 GTI Engine. That was horrific below 2000 rpm. This is a slight inconvience at most.

3.5k miles on the car now.

My car also has the creased seat covers that 06 owners have been mentioning.

is it a creased rear seat ?

The girlfriends 06 fabia VRS does not have this issue but i remapped it at 25 miles!

Could the owners of the effected cars please post the ECU details

For example

038 906 019 NJ

0 281 011 823

Also the small number underneath the 019. This is the software revision in our case 7331

Then maybe we can see what software is effected.

I still have the original dataset here and may try uploading it back to the ECU to compare things

mine is 838 906 019 NJ

0 281 011 823

7331

The same as yours by the look of it.

Where are these numbers exactly and i will make a note of them...Thanks

These numbers are on the ECU. On the fabia this is a silver Bosch unit about the size of a video tape. You can find this in the top right hand side of the engine bay.

Hope this helps

Just checked mine AND IS exactly the same!!

VAG No

038906019nj

DieselEDC15P

7331

BOSCH No

0281 011 823

1039S10368

1803 0172

06-01-21

Be interesting if you do reload the original map and the fault appears?

Thanks for your help

Its looking like it could well be a software problem. Please everyone else with this stuttering post your ECU numbers so i can work out if its just this batch thats having problems.

Thanks

It would be good to see what Ecu and software the Non Stutterers are running:rolleyes:

mine is the same 038 906 019J

0281 011 823......and it stutters

Hi Folks

My ECU numbers are the same as everybody elses:

VAG No 038906019nj

DieselEDC15P

7331

Wonder if a firmware upgrade will fix it:confused:

Still stuttering:(

Suncat:cool:

Its looking increasingly like a software problem, the fabia vrs has used a few different software versions at one time and another often shared with the seat ibiza sport / FR. Would be interested to see if the latest ibiza FR tdi is using this version and having problems

Here's my numbers, same as many others:-

838 906 019 NJ

7331

0 281 011 823

1039S 10368 1003 0129

06-01-21

Roger M

Another stuttering '06 Euro IV with the same numbers (except last line - serial?)

038 906 019 NJ

Diesel EDC15P+ 7331

Bosch 281 011 823

1039S 10368 1154 0151

Just received my JD Power Survey, should I be indicating stutter problems or is this just being petty?

I'm prepared to reject the car for it, so not petty at all as far as I'm concerned!

No Idea which No's are supposed to be the same and which will be different. But on my 'stuttering' 55 Plate.

VAG No

038906019nj (same)

DieselEDC15P (same)

7331 (same)

BOSCH No

0281 011 823 (same)

1039S10368 (same)

1803 0015 (this is different to some others a little lower - maybe a serial no?)

05-10-01 (again different but could be date in reverse?)

Just been driving the G/F vrs with these cides and cant fault it. As i said before it was remapped first day though. I may reflash the ECU with the original file and try it like that see if the stuttering is evident then.

Just got back from Alex Lawries....

tech drove ...only mild stuttering

but he will report it to Skoda

not interested in lumpy idle issues!
