Somewhere in the thread it is suggested that a remap may loose the euro IV emissions meaning that the car would fail an MOT in 3 years - does anyone know if this is true? Also' date=' if you have a remap, I guess the Skoda fix is no longer needed as it would either overwrite the remap or clash with it?

My theory, I think. To be fair the MOT limits are fairly generous at the moment and your car has to be pretty awful to fail, but the Government could choose to tighten them up at any time. I'd rather not take the risk when I've paid for Euro IV.

Mine did it today (600 miles in), a bit like a hiccup, lasts long enough to notice it, but not long enough to be really evident, sort of like 'oh i think it's stu... ah, it's all right now'. 5th gear at 2000 rpm after a trailing throttle, engine nearly up to temperature.

Given that the Skoda "fix" may or may not come and may or may not work and we'll all be the guinea pigs to test it I'm not so sure there's merit in waiting for it before remapping. Maybe there's a benefit if the remap is switchable. Will have to think about it. If it's remapped and the fix might then clash with a remap then I guess I'd simply skip the fix.

With regard to warranty, it's not like you're "chucking it away". The warranty covers every last bit of the car. A remap affects your cover on the ecu and on the engine components directly affected by the change to performance (probably stuff like the turbo, the fuel system, whatever). Most of these bits loose cover progressively even before the 3 years is up through the old "wear and tear" caveats. All the rest of the car is still covered though. I had a remap on an Audi Tdi at 6mths old before, and changed the exhaust, etc, and the dealer never even mentioned it to me - and nothing broke in the following 18mths (40,000 miles) that I had it. There are so many chipped PD diesels out there that have run reliably for so long that I think one can be reasonably comfortable with the small risk of a remap related failure.

Don't let fear of loosing warranty stop you - the car is at its best and most effective when new!

Just out of interest I just got back from having an oil change at 1,000 miles after running in. Skoda couldn't fit me in for the next 3 weeks (!) so I had it done at my local Audi/VW specialist (they use all the OE oils and bits). Chatting after it was done, the garage manager turned to me and said "you do realise it's got the BLT engine don't you?". Although he's not franchised and he doesn't see many new cars he was fully aware of the problem with the Euro IV Tdi 130. Seems it's well known in VW circles... He hadn't heard of a fix, in fact he seemed to see it just as one of those things you'll have to put up with.

Talking about emissions, he reckoned they'd only seen one remapped car with dodgy emissions - a petrol Audi S3 but after minor adjustments it passed its MOT.

I've an 06 VRS, just got yesterday, all seems ok with the engine. But i'll keep my eye on it. Thanx 4 the tip

took mine to dealers today and the woman said the man who looked at it said it just needs the MAF sensor replacing. i told her that has been tryed before with no luck and that skoda know about the problem but she just looked at me with a ****ing dumb look on her face and said something like "thats what he said is the problem and thats how he will fix it"

****ed off, i have said before that Mitchel skoda in chester are good but this dumb bitch was no help at all !!

I have been watching this thread for a couple of days now. I was just about to place an order for a new vRS having had a test drive in a 2005 car which I have to say was excellent, in fact better than excellent it was absolutely brilliant.

I have test driven and considered the new Golf 2.0 TDi, Civic 2.2, and a couple of other cars but the Fabia seemed like a brilliant package at the price.

I am really disappointed at the moment and wonder if Skoda are aware that they are losing potential sales and that the previously cast iron reputation for reliability could fade fast. Let's face it they need this reputation to overcome a perception problem in the UK with the Skoda brand and a problem like this could cause irreperable damage.

Any suggestions as to the best way forward would be gratefully received. I could live with wrinkled seat covers but there is no way I would accept the possibility of a car that stutters. God only knows what the long term implications for the engine would be.

I was hoping this post would have been about me placing a deposit on a new vRS and not about my concerns regarding this issue which is a real shame

I wouldn't let it put you off, it's not noticeable to a lot of people.

Howabout you try and secure a drive in an 06 model with the relevant engine code and see if it really bothers you?

The other cars you mention are very different to the vrs.

I had a new '06 vRS for a day about a month ago and it was fine, didn't have a stutter at all. :thumbup:

I've been watching these 'stutter' threads since they started and it seems a number of people didn't even know about it until they read about it here and how to create it and then when out and made it happen and went running to their skoda dealer.... :thumbdwn:

Mate, I didn't know anything about it until I read it on here - I'd never felt anything.

It took me a couple of motnhs to even remember to look at my engine code before finally getting round to it and seeing that it was indeed the affected BLT code.

However, I still haven't felt anything that feels like a fault to me - perhaps in part to the fact that I've never had a drive by wire car before so the throttle is a new experience for me anyway. My story may have been very different if I had owned a pre-06 model for a long time and I was comparing the two.

If an official 'fix' is made available, and it's just a case of an easy thing for the dealer to sort, I'll probably ask them to do it whilst my car's in for something else. However, I'm certainly not going to go down there and kick up a fuss about something they don't know how to fix - esp when I can't even notice it myself!!!

Actually, the opposite is true in my case. I noticed the stuttering and found this site as a result of searches to see if it was a common problem. The stutter is only evident at low throttle settings just below 2K RPM and would not be evident to drivers with a heavy right foot.

I believe mine is starting to do it now. I've just bought an 06 plate and just thought it was they way i was driving the car at first, as it doesn't seem to do it in every gear.

Its normally between 1500-2000rpm, i've read all the info on the message board and i'm now convinced that mine is stuttering.

So i think a little visit 2 the dealer is in order..........

But i've got 2 say wot a top car. I did have a Mk4 Golf V5 before the Fabia vRS and i'm really impressed by the car.

Seems like sound advice to be honest....I had a new Impreza Turbo a few years back and despite the worries over the dreaded clutch judder issue I only experienced it a couple of times.

After the test drives I have had so far the other cars met my expectations but the vRS far exceeded them

It's all I can suggest tbh!

I wouldn't like to htink that you didn't order one just because you were worried about the potential stutter.

You may also be willing to order one and then demand to drive it before officially 'accepting' it depending on how 'ballsy' you are - if you'r eunhappy with the sutter simply reject it etc :thumbup:

ive just taken delivery of a vrs and the stutter appeared it's a pain . \\\dealer dont want to know keep an eye on things see if any body gets a fix

He should have taken a VAGcom reading and sent it to Skoda UK and also taken your details so that when a fix is available you will be contacted.

If he didn't go back, this is the advice from Skoda UK. They offered to contact mine direct if I had any problems. :)

I've ordered a new Fab vRS and have read through this with interest. I test drove a brand new (i mean spanking, it had about 2 miles on the clock) one, and noticed what I guess people describe as a stutter. It occurred if you took your foot off of the throttle and reapplied it gently. There was a slight pause, and then off it went. I put it down to the turbo to be honest, and figured that since it was an off/on throttle movement, it just caught the wastegate (this is purely guesswork on my part) unawares, and it was a lack of boost that caused it. I'm not overly concerned by this, and don't think it will affect my enjoyment of the car. With regards to the Euro IV compliance, I can't see Skoda offering a fix that invalidates this compliance, as it would go completely against the sale of goods act, as they have sold the vehicle with the compliance. And also with regards to the MOT, as far as I can tell, the Euro IV only counts towards company car tax, so it shouldn't raise any problems with this.

I think if anything it will be nothing more than a slight annoyance. And who, to be honest, hasn't always found something that they wish they could change about a car?

I ccontacted the dealer again telling them what ive been told on the forum and they agreed to take a look at the car they want to take a diagnostic and send it to skoda uk they assured me they would be in touch if they get a fix but for now i have two live with it apart from the miss the furby's great as soon as i get the stutter fixed it's getting a dragon box.

Anybody got any thoughts on whether a 56 car could be affected ? I am probably just about to order one if this thread doesn't deter me!

You could write to Skoda and tell them to get it fixed or you'll not buy the car! ;) That would perhaps help us 06 owners out a little also :)

Who knows!? :D I've ordered one. I had a an 06 for a day long testdrive and that one was fine. :thumbup::cool:
