hi all

i have posted a little about this a few pages ago. Just phoned my dealer to make him aware of the problem just incase it gets worse and they ask why i didnt tell them sooner.

Very helpful, he said although he has not heard of this problem and non of the '06 vrs's he has there do it he told me to take it in and they will do a full check on everything and diagnostic test.

If i cant take it in at a convenient time they will happily give me a loan car to drive.

The dealer is Mitchel Skoda, chester, and i cannot fault them (apart from there "FREE CAR WASH FOR LIFE" which is f***ing ****)

Update

I was back at Alex Lawrie yesteday (er indoors test drivin a 1.4 furby), asked the Service Manager about the 'official' Skoda notification on this issue.

He said that Skoda UK were aware of the problem and if a car is reported as stuttering they need to have it in the workshop to check on various software version numbers etc and report these to Skoda UK - so it does seem that Skoda are targetting a software issue.

If you have only been back to the dealer to report the issue and let them drive the car......get back there to let them collect the 'data'

Well i've only done around 130 miles in my new 06 vRS....... So far not noticed any hesitation etc......... I do have a couple of seat wrinkles but i'm ok with those as you can only see them from one angle and then only when the sun is shining on them from another certain angle.

Cheers

Dave.

Keep an eye on them ... sometimes they get worse.:)

Does anyone know if Skoda cz are dealing with this problemn or just uk, is it only right hand drive cars that are affected? Are Skoda still churning out stuttering vRS' and hoping to rectify the problem later, in other words (selfish hat on) is my car due to be built in three weeks likely to suffer?

Yes the 06 model does stutter. please add me too

Don't know about Skoda cz, although my dealer often refers to "the factory" in conversation, but Skoda UK talk about the Milton Keynes tecnical centre looking at it.

I've looked up the Euro III vs. Euro IV emissions limits and moving to IV requires a 22% reduction in CO, 17% HC, 50% NOx and 50% in Particulate Matter. To get that with basically the same engine they were using for Euro III it's my guess that they had to do something drastic, like cutting all the fuel off on the overrun or something, a by-product of which is this dreaded stutter (and probably the rough idle). I think they will struggle to fix it and maintain the Euro IV emission standard; so expect a long wait and probably no fix on this model at all.

I remember a thread a while ago regarding the 1.4 TDi, Someone took it for a remap and the tuner in question could achieve hardly any gains. This was, at the time, put down to the inclusion of a particulate filter in the exhaust system.

Isn't it the usual way to reduce NOx by upping the EGR to reduce cylinder temperatures? All that exhaust going back in can't be good for smooth running. Don't think they've got a particulate trap on the vRS judging by the amount of black crud that seems to belch out of the back - amazed they claim to meet th PM limit.

I've been reading this thread with interest as I had an 04 car that was completely fault free and want to get another but will definitely be avoiding 06 models with the bacon lettuce and tomato engine code!

I'm with Kerry on this - I think he/she has done exactly the right thing. It shouldn't take Skoda this long to resolve a problem such as this - after all if a standard car can visit a remapper and come out with a smoother drive then it shouldn't be beyond Skoda to sort it out asap with their resources. That being the case I think Kerry has hit the nail on the head over the emissions issue and it probably boils down to keeping costs down because they don't want to recall all those 06 cars. No one should put up with a problem on a new car that does not have an immediate fix in sight. Apart from anything else a stuttering problem may cause issues with engine components - it's not just an issue with the ecu - which may fail (as a result of extra stress due to the lumpy running) outside of a warranty period. Therefore no one should be clocking up the miles on their car - and consequently more stress on the components - until Skoda provides a definitive solution to the problem. It becomes Skodas problem not the customer's from here on in - do what Kerry has done otherwise what is the point of this website if we cannot have collective leverage to iron out what is obviously a widespread problem afflicting particular engines/codes. I don't want to be too outspoken but I wan't to nudge things in the right direction so you can get answers and swift resolution to your problems. I haven't read every last post on this thread but can't Briskoda staff help out here with some sort of representation for you '06 vRS owners? I cannot believe in any case this thing has been going on for weeks - you can see plenty of prospective new owners coming on here to ask about potential problems before buying - Skoda, sort the issue out before you lose these potential new customers and the good faith you have built up amongst you mainly satisfied owners over the last few years!

Well mine's an 06 and I've still not been 'affected' by any stutter.

From what's been said, it's probably 'there' but it certainly isn't a noticeable problem.

Mine is going in tomorrow for its seat wrinkles though so I may ask the dealer what they know about this stutter problem.

If some fix comes along for a fault that my car supposedly has I'll get it into the dealers but I'm not worried in the meantime.

it's probably just a software coding issue. If some 06 cars don't have the stutter and meet Euro 4 compliancy standard then they will have to see which software is on the ones that have the stutter.

I'm sure it takes time to get a fix for it as they have to make tests on the fix to see if hasn't got any side affects etc. They don't want to make more problems for themselves.

They will also will have to come up with a way to administer the fixes and communicate this with all the skoda dealers. It will take time but im sure it will come.

As for getting Briskoda admin to speak to them..why not?

I took my 500 mile old 06 VRS into my local dealer and mentioned that I was a little unhappy with the stutter at between 1500 - 1900 rpm (most noticeable in 4th gear at almost bang on 40 mph with a very slight throttle opening) and they initially said that they had heard nothing like this before  (.........standard policy to not admit anything up front !!!)

They then looked on what they called "Skoda Desktop" which was like a bulletin board for all dealers and sure enough they was a note saying about the stutter issue on 06 Fabia VRS's and that the proceedure was to download a copy of the map from the diagnostics port and fax it across to Skoda UK Tech Centre.

That was duely completed this morning whilst I waited and drank a cup of coffee and they will be in contact with me again when they get an answer back from the report.

Can't really get better customer service than that

My advice to all 06 Fabia VRS owners is to take your car to a dealer and ask them about the bulletin and insist that they do the download - the more reports they get, the more chance we all get of getting a solution to our stttttuuuuuutttttteeerrrr

Oh........by the way, the dealer was Saville's of Kidderminster - thanks guys

I have just emailed Skoda UK detailing the fault in the hope they will give me a decent reply to show to the Dealer if they play dumb ;)

I'm planning to get mine in within the next few days, any idea how long it would take them to gain all the info that was needed? I really would prefer to wait rather than leave my car with them. Also, do you think it would be cheeky of me to ask for the blips to be put on for locking as they will have the VAGCOM on it anyway :D

A quick update on my communications with skoda uk and my local dealer.

I rang skoda uk just now and spoke to a helpful chap :D He knew exactely what I was referring to and said I described the problem spot on  He says there is no fix as yet but I need to register the fault with my dealer so that when there is one I will be on the database for them to contact, he also said this is the right time to do it! He answered my question about actually taking it to the dealer to show them even if it can't be recreated, he assured me all dealers have had the bulletin and will know what I'm talking about....

I rang my local dealer straight after and told them of the fault. The response?....'Oh! what does it actually do then?' The tone of voice suggested no knowledge of a bulletin atall  I soon name dropped and made him aware of skoda uk's knowledge of the problem and he then decided he should look to see when he could fit me in! Just a shame that they happen to be chokka until I return from the RTTS.

Happy days :)

My 06 Fab vRS does this. Not often, and quite mild - but there is a bumpy lag around the 1,800 RPM mark when drifting on and off the throttle (light throttle). I've added my vote.

D

As I have posted previously, our 06 vRS has the stutter problem and an occasional lumpy idle too. However, on the plus side we have just done our first trip to Devon in the new car. We do the same trip 6 or 7 times a year. Our 54 plate vRS would do between 50 and 52 mpg for the journey. The 06 did 58.9!!! I don't believe that the traffic conditions were vastly different to previous trips and I certainly wasn't driving any different. The performance seems just as good as the earlier model so if this is a typical increase in economy, I might put up with the odd stutter.

Hi

Just picked up my 06 after having a 54.

Yes I have the stuttter and took it back within 10 miles.

Now done 500 miles and no better. The dealer has taken the details and like everyone else I await the outcome.

The driving experience is just not as good as the 54. I had to get customer services involved on that due to a failed electric window. They asked me to inform them if the new car was OK so were dissappionted when I said I had the stutter!

We wait and see!

PS I also have wrinkly back seats and a rattle from the top of the passenger door and loose trim on the CD changer. It just seems not as well built.

I have no stutter on my 06 with engine code BLT!only driven 100 miles but still not noticed anything

Yup - get your dealer, if he's being backward, to do as it says several posts back. There's a memo and instructions as above concerning sending readouts to Skoda.

My stuttering's gone.......... now it's remapped :D :D

Just added my vote, I've notice it stutter 2 or 3 times in the first 1500 miles. Will get it looked at during the service in a few weeks.

Hello,

This is my first post, though I've been reading Briskoda since before I ordered mine

I just picked up my new '06 car last night and have noticed a slight stutter - again coasting into a corner, then re-accelerating at about 1800RPM. Probably 4th gear. It's going back to the dealer tomorrow for this, creased seats, poor fitting front bumper and dash rattles. They can't do anything, but at least they can report it to Skoda and it adds to the warranty cost for Skoda, which in turn increases the pressure to fix it.

Kind regards,

Simon

Hi

This is my first post and unfortunately it's to note another stutter-er. I picked up my 06 VRS on the 5th may and noticed the stutter more or less straight away. It reminds me of lean running or fuel starvation which I get on my 72 Audi Coupe S which wants 5 star and is running on unleaded - I reckon the EGR/fuel shut-off idea sounds quite plausible therefore. Whatever it is, I haven't suffered too much as I'm running in and avoiding chugging below 2000 revs too much. I was waiting to see what became of it but I think I'll report it now just to be on the safe side. I am planning to remap soon so that may solve it.

Somewhere in the thread it is suggested that a remap may loose the euro IV emissions meaning that the car would fail an MOT in 3 years - does anyone know if this is true? Also, if you have a remap, I guess the Skoda fix is no longer needed as it would either overwrite the remap or clash with it?

Despite this, and what I think is wrinkly seat syndrome in the back, I'm pleased with the car so far and am not missing the the TT I sold to get it yet...

You should delay any remapping until the situation is resolved.

You should delay any remapping until the situation is resolved.

Indeed - the Skoda fix will likely involve reflashing the ECU which may well remove any remap code that's been put on there, plus you'll be chucking your warranty away with a remap :D
