Can you give as an update how is your 1803 SW doing so far? Some of us currently having 1788 SW version, got an option today to install 1803 over the air.

If any of you would like to know what software updates are outstanding, I'm happy to take a look if you send your VIN over. Worth knowing there's alot more software on your cars than just infotainment

It is. But not for all cars.

I there some overview? What makes the difference? What car can have which update version?

Also, some people mention some "VIN-Checker", where you can check if there are software updates for your car. What/where is that?

The Australian skoda update portal

My car was in at the dealers middle of Jan and went from 1788 to 1803 due to a number of software issues including the SOS error. Since then, I've had the parking sensor error once and front assist error pop on a few times during fog/poor weather. This is a massive improvement over 1788 where I was getting issues every other day.

Thanks for the feedback. I have 1788 version with almost zero issues. This is why I'm a bit afraid to install 1803.

1803 gave me SOS POP! Also auto called the emergency services. Plus sat nav still doesnt remember or save addresses, plus some other crap every day

But you already have issues before the update to 1803, right?

As I'm still in the queue I don't know what the Octavia uses but my assumption is front assist is camera based? Similar to what Toyota / Vauxhall use. If it is, it isn't uncommon in poor weather for these systems to throw up a message saving they are unavailable.

Happens alot in my Astra when driving through that sort of foggy rain that just hangs in the air. It simply can't handle it. The Toyota's I have had in the past also had similar issues. So rather than a software issue it is more of a tech limitation.

I agree, sort of!

yes, weather conditions and road grime can affect the sensors, but in the Octy 4 the ‘unavailable’ alert comes up in ideal conditions at time too.

I firmly believe that there is a s/w issue in some cars.

I did mate

I had 1804 installed in my car on Friday, and it solved my SOS issues, and associated popping noises.

Soooo...I have installed the update. Got notification "Update was installed successfully". But guess what....I still have version 1788!  Not sure if I should cry or laugh.

Drive mode - never remembers which one it was left in (mk3 always remembered this is a backwards step)

This is a feature, not a bug. Has something to do with car being always on default mode for emissions or something weird. Perhaps can be changed in the future with OBD11 etc.

We can also carry the updates out for anybody local to us. However please bare in mind we can't cover the costs under your warranty so there would be a small charge (but we'd do everything that's outstanding).

If you can, try your local dealer first - just be prepared for a few visits

I've posted that several times on here, but people continue to post the infotainment software version number - seemingly without understanding/caring that their car has maybe 30+ different processor controlled modules all with their own software versions that are not reported in the infotainment system.

You can take a horse to water but you cannot make it drink 😠

According to my dealer, there is now a recall out on the head unit on the hatchback VRS & iV Octavia's + Enyaq + Golf GTI (very oddly specific). I was giving the car to them anyway today but it was supposed to be only a 2 day process, now the process is open ended so for the forseeable future i'm in a floating sponge called a Tiguan.

Usually, when something major changes in the behavior of the car, it's when infotainment SW changes. I guess this is why we are still talking about infotainment SW  version number.

My dealer has effectively now confirmed in an additional phone call that the latest software update for my car requires a complete new head unit. I could be out of the car for a while as they're on backorder for ages.

I red something similar in a German FB group. So it could really be some truth in that.

I've had to make the dealer aware that i've got a car on order that is contingent of the latent value of this Octavia for trade in, so if the delays affect my replacement i'll be taking proactive measures.

I don't drive it that much, but a few days ago after a curve the rear of the car swerved out (over-steering) and the ESP did nothing (no ESP symbol lights flashed up). Not sure what to think of it, I don't have much experience with ESP, but according to ads, this is what it is designed to prevent)

That's hard to believe - unless your existing unit is actually defective

I was reading through the available TPIs for the Octavia and I didn't see anything mentioning replacing the infotainment unit

There is however outstanding updates released this month for absolutely loads of octavias for multiple control modules

I suppose it depends on your definition of 'major changes' - a change to the engine ECU SW or gearbox ECU SW or front radar ECU SW (amongst others) will have IMHO a 'major change' in the behaviour of the car but none of those will be reported in the infotainment SW version.
