RE: 2006 vrS OWNERS STUTTER - SKODA UK FIX

Featured Replies

Ok, my Fabia Combi Ambiente 1.9 TDI100 Engine code: AXR has been with the stealer all day.

Luckily the mechanic acknowledged that there was a problem, so a Skoda Technician will come to have a look at my car January 18th.

Skoda DK didn`t have a clue about problems of this sort - atleast that is what they said.

So far i am very happy with the service i have gotten until now, let`s hope it stays that way. :)

Fingers crossed i get a proper courtesy car. :D:cool:

  • First off, well done to those who condensed the thread Couple of questions if anyone knows the answer. 1) Where do skoda dealers fit the 14.5mm gasket? Position 6 or 11? Seem to remember reading th

just id inform everyone that i went for test drive and confronted the dealer about the stutter. they said it is a characteristic of the engine whih they are trying to get around, but there last attemp resulted in high emissions making it illegal as a euro 4 engine.

during the drive i did not detect a stutter and the salesperson said the did hav one around 1800rpm as it was their car

Personally I've had my gasket now for two weeks on my vRS and have only had one very minor stutter. Yes it's disappointing that the fix isn't an ultimate final solution but for the time being I'm pleased it's reduced the hesitation dramatically. My only concern is long term durability of the gasket and whether over time it will weaken and the stutter returns.

Just following on from my first response (30/11/06) after having the modified gasket fitted.

So far I've covered about two thousand miles, mainly being a 10 mile journey to and from work and a few long distance trips including a run to Newcastle.

Even with the colder weather, it's still running 10x better than before. Only by really trying can I cause a minor hesitiation but in general the car is far more enjoyable to drive.

So if the car fails the euro4 due to emmmisions due to the new skoda bodge.....as someone mentioned in the first time visitors section of the forum (dealer said) this will make the car fail an mot. Now a 06 will not need an MOt for a while but if you took it for an MOT which you can at any time it will not be road legal with Skoda fix.........so whats gonna happen in 3yrs time.

I have had my new 56 fabia vrs into the dealer to have this stutter sorted with the drilling out of the exhaust gasket and it made no difference whatsoever, i managed to get a glimse of the dealers labtop with the fault remedy and it says that the stutter/hesitation occurs at 17k rpm and they are now calling it a driving characteristic rather than a fault, which is starting to sound like we will have to lump it.

This seems to be the way it's gunna be Tails, get your writing head on and send Skoda UK some strong worded letters.

Am just awaiting parts delivered for mine to be done...

Hi all,

just to let you know I too have the stutter problem. Booked in with Horners Manchester for next sat. Going to take the engineer for a spin and see if I can show him exactly whats happening. Also, has anyone noticed a knocking sound when engaging the clutch at low revs? (setting off from stop etc) My fabia has now done just over 300 miles and has only just started doing it (seems irrespective of engine temp too). What a shame that so many of these Fabias are having this stutter problem. I had no idea it was so widespread until I joined here and found it on mine! Oh well, Ill be sure to keep you all infomed. Cracking car though! :)

Im thinking of ordering a new furby vrs, is it likely that it will have the same problem.

Yes. Skoda has officially stated that it is a characteristic of the engine now that it has to be Euro IV compliant. They really don't appear to be able to fix it unfortunately. It does seem to vary in severity though. I think some dealers are now turning the EGR off/down as far as possible in software and this does massivley improve the issue.

My Vrs got the mod a few weeks ago and on the way home from the garage, there was still a slight stutter. However, thats the only time its happened since and appears to have been fixed.

Hi everybody, i plan to buy a Fabia RS 130. After reading this post i think i will buy a used one. In order to get a euro 3 i would like to be sure that 2005 ones where all euro 3. But maybe the latest ones producted in 2005 where already euro 4 compliant. Someone knows when was produced the last euro 3 Fabia ?

I'm French and my Fabia will be a French one, left steering wheel etc , maybe this is an important information.

Thanks !

wats EGR

exhaust gas recirculation, and '05 models are euro III :)

I was reading over at the ford focus forums ( yeah so I'm a forum whore) that the focus c-max was suffering problems with egr and misfiring (another term for stuttter...??). Due to ncap 4.

Hi everyone

After test-driving a 54 plate VRS 12 months ago I was really impressed and decided to buy a new one in March 2007 until I read about the stutter.

How can a car manufacturer get away with admitting their car doesn't run properly and call it a "characteristic of the engine".

Just when Skoda jokes were a thing of the past they go and start writing their own!

Still enjoyed the test drive though.

^ ^ ^ wow, thats a big font :)

It doesn't just affect Skodas, its the whole VAG range with the 130PD engine. Additionally, according to thirty3 the c-max has similar problems, would be a shame if euro4 standards have affected many more cars other than VAG's. Can't say i've noticed a stutter on the works focus's (focui? :D), but I do spend most of car day reving the tits off them ;)

Go try a new one out didujo, it may not be as bad as reported :D

I swear I caught my 06 Seat Ibiza FR 130PD doing the same thing the other day...

Due to ncap 4.

Euro IV?

Euro IV?

Yep Euro 4 & Ive heard rumour Euro 5 is on its way.

Our Superb has a Diesel Particle filter to comply with Euro 4, Ive banged on about the reliability problems elsewhere, but also it reduces the mpg, means you cant use Bio Diesel as that clogs it even more so thats all good for the Enviroment. It uses some sort of Iron filing additive to assist burning which I have been told is pretty nasty to the Enviroment & lastly the filter is a service item which needs to be replaced if it fails & is not covered by the warranty. It has to be eplaced at 80,000 miles and is rumoured to cost £600

Oh if only the Superb only had a stutter & that can be fixed by just a remap anyway although it wont comply with Euro 4 any more but it still polutes less in a year than Tony Blairs Jet on one flight !!!!!!!!!

Yeah.....lol...:o

hi guys,

ive got the stutter myself and for some reason have seemed to stop it. i have no idea why and dont know for definate if actually works whatsoever. ill be honest, i dont know much, if anything really about cars but here goes. i turned off the ASR! Ive tried it for about a week now and havent had a peep out of it. every time ive forgotten to turn it off bingo! back to ssttuttering so off goes the ASR and thats it! gone! now as ive said, i dont know if this actually works or if its coincidence and if it does work god knows why but its worth a try if it gets us closer to finding a cure for it. anyway thats that. all i can say is give it a go and fingers crossed. sorry if its made me look stupid but its the only thing ive come across thats stopped the bloody thing! (for now)

you may find that the ASR operating is what you are thinking is the stutter. If you accelerate on a surface without grip, the ASR will cut the engine power... (this will seem like it's holding back, or 'stuttering') then the power suddenly comes back on..... if you turn off the ASR you will loose this effect, but also have wheelspin, and power understeer......

hey sharkrider, thanks for the reply. from what i can gather the stutter seems to be very characteristic of the problem that everyone else is having - on my mj56 vRS a light throttle application in all gears but especially 3rd-4th gives a definate intermittent misfire between 1.5-2000rpm. as i say i really dont know what effect the ASR would have on a problem that essentially appears to be most certainly a result of euro IV compliance. I have my car booked in next weekend @ m'cr horners and have contacted skoda direct (no relpy yet after a week, hmm) to see if they can shed any light on the matter - not holding my breath though. i imagine that what i have experienced is purely coincidental but may be worth a try just in case. i just hope that they come across a fix soon cos it really isnt going to wash with me that the stutter is an engine characteristic. oh well, all part of life's rich tapestry i guess. still a pain in the **** though :)

there is a fix joe, your dealer should sort you out, apparently it doesn't 'cure' the problem , but vastley reducec the effects, most people seem happy with it..... good luck ;)

My 56 plate vrs now has been in for the Skoda fix - a new EGR gasket with a different size hole in it.

I still have some hesitation (stutter) which is usually at around 1600 to 1800 rpm and occurs after closing the throttle then immediatley reopening it (rolling along in slow traffic is the worst).

I now have a much more pronounced judder and increased noise at tick over. I took it back and have had a revised idle speed set, but it is no better really. Will be going back to the dealer with it at the weekend!!

Apparently the EGR gasket from the ASZ motors cures all problems, but the emissions are no longer in range!!
