  • First off, well done to those who condensed the thread Couple of questions if anyone knows the answer. 1) Where do skoda dealers fit the 14.5mm gasket? Position 6 or 11? Seem to remember reading th

Hi,

New to this - do I take it that the stutter is common to VW, Seat and Audis with the same engine?

I will soon find out, as I'm going to look at a new ibiza FR (PD130) on Sat, with a view to buying.... I'll remark on how it goes ;)

yep, fraid so. So sharkrider your PD 130 engined Seat will be affected too, whether you'll find it annoying through is hard to tell. But let us know.

At least Skoda (finally) admitted that it was a problem, I believe VW said it was a phenomenon from day one and didn't even try to find a fix - don't quote me on that through ;)

If my stutter ever gets too bad, i'll just put the old euro III gasket on it and screw the emissions :D

right im fairly new so dont slate me off.

Does the euro 3 gasket cure the problem.

also wat gasket is it

Read this. It basically tells you what to do to fix the problem. My understanding is that the gasket mentioned comes with a 4mm hole which the dealer then has to drill out to 9mm or 14.5mm. The standard gasket has a 20mm hole I think.

If your dealer will remap then get it remapped as that cures it too.

Hi,

My VRS is a 2005 model with an engine number starting BLT can anyone explain if is affected or not - one thread states that 2005 models are not affected another thread quote an engine number starting BLT being affected? So does that mean 2005 models with a BLT prefix are nnot affected but a 2006 model with a BLT prefix is affected. Confused??

Hi everybody

So what size is the hole in the gasket of pre 06 cars that dont have the stutter problem? Is it 4mm?

Are you sure it's BLT?, in a 2005? I would have thought you had an ASZ engine.

i had amd remap on my vrs - stutter was still there.

dealer has put new gasket on and stutter has gone .... but idle is a bit rough/jumpy (very little) not really a problem

Hi,

It's BLT that if we are talking about the 1st 3 letters on the enging number? Or is it the 1st 3 letters on the VIN?

exhaust gas recirculation, and '05 models are euro III :)

hI,

My Dec 2005 VRS has a BLT engine prefix - how do I confirm if it is EU3 or EU4? Does the EU4 only apply to 2006 cars?

2006 cars were built from week 22 in 2005. So unless your car had been sat around for a while before it was registered, chances are it's an 06.

my car (fabia vrs) has experience one or two problems, 1st was the stutter, confirmed and sorted my my trusty dealership, its a gasket of 45mm dim, needs changing two a 44mm. easily done in a morning. stutters at 1700-1800rpm. i had noticed it but thought nothing of it. 2nd problem, a strainge whistle, coming from turbo area. all sorts of revs, normaly when cold. took her in, first attempt they gave me a brand new turbo, still same noise, then changed all pipes, discovered a cracked pipe that enters the back of the turbo. not sure exact details. but sorted. was rather annoying.

Is the stutter still an EGR fix that needs to be done by a dealer after delivery ?

I ordered a new vRS on Friday before I found this topic - wondering if I should proceed with the purchase. Can't believe they are selling cars with this issue.

Shouldn't they have all been fixed in the factory. The '06 car I test drove last week didn't show any problems (could have been fixed already ?)

thats what i thought, i had my vrs for nine months, serviced twice, and still they didnt change, they seem to only change if the fault is reported by the owner. it only effects some models.??? strange but in all fairness dont worry, if you do have the fault its easily fixed, and the car is awsome. enjoy your new vrs!

so your's was new 9 months ago and no stutter at all so far ?

i will talk to the dealer to see if they are aware of the stutter in some cars

(and be prepared to fix it if necessary)

yes, the EGR gasket fix sounds easy, but some people have said it doesn't always work

i hope to enjoy it !

I had the hesitation from new, so after reading that I was not alone and that a gasket fix was available I rang Skoda uk, who in turn rang my dealer to book the car in for the fix, that was November and it has never done it since, I believe it didn’t work so well with a few other owners.

so you just had the new EGR gasket, no ECU remap ?

how bad was the stutter before the fix ?

It was just irritating really, every time I lifted of the gas at about 1,800 rpm and then accelerated again it ‘Stuttered” or misfired which we now know was too much exhaust gas being redirected back into the engine for this Euro 4 B******* but it was never dangerous just a bit annoying.

as far as I know I just had the revised gasket fitted.

Yes sorry I must have meant 1,800

S'ok mate...... Sat at work in a silly mood and picked up on the typo.

Cheers

Dave.

I asked for it! The stutter has become almost Mythical on here but I still like the little vRS

no no, i had a stutter, but it was kinda there but not, i noticed it and thought nothing of it. it was that small, but when i went in to fix another fault he asked was it a stutter then i said well it has got a stutter to! just play with the car at 1700-1800rpm, easing of the excelorator, any gear, and squizing back on as the revs lower, and youll find it if you have it.

I spoke to Mike at Jabbasport today and he said they can pretty well disable the EGR valve through remapping. It seems to be the route of the stutter problem.

I have had the 'official' EGR gasket replacement fitted by the dealer and it is a tiny bit better, but still not good. Tickover is lumpy and noisy now.

I had an ASZ code tdi 130 golf which was perfect and never caused any problems - I am going to order an ASZ gasket and see if this resolves the issue.

If anyone is running a remapped BLT code motor please let me know if it cures the problem!!
