RE: 2006 vrS OWNERS STUTTER - SKODA UK FIX

Featured Replies

from that tech bulletin Stu , it looks like Skoda have washed their hands of the problem , is it only the Skodas that are faulty ? or are the Seats and VWs just the same ? it seems a poor show that Skoda couldn't sort it and have now given up , saying its not a manufacturing defect is incorrect , of course its a manufacturing defect , they've made the car , so the fault has been manufactured . thank god i've got an 04 model VRS

Mine is still in the garage having it done, I'll pick it up after work tomorrow. Now I'm wondering if I will have the 9 or the 14.5

It was the first week in november that I got the nod from Skoda UK to book it in with my dealer.

I picked mine up after work today and so far have only done about ten miles. It had ample opportunity to stutter with my tired lazy driving but only did it once, so it looks like so far so good. I didn't find out which size I had because they don't do a lot of talking at my Dealers.

Pixi does your signature mean your car or your husband... LOL

Picking mine up tomorrow will post on here to update results with remap...

 My husband :o

Although all he did was register and poke his nose in one thread about this ANPR stuff. I told him he has to do a first time visitor post before he posts elsewhere but does he listen to me?

Folks,

Got mine booked in for tommorrow, spoke to the technician and it will be the first car he has done !! Bit worrried about this ... also read the bulletin above about drilling ... again a bit worried !

Anyone know how long it 'actually' takes to do the mod and what they do ? (where is the gasket and how do they get to it ... do they take the car to bits ?)

the delaer is only open for the morning so I need to know it takes them less time than this to fix the part on etc .....

Surely that is of their concern, they shouldn't start a job that they can't finish.

Thanks for the Info Stu.:)

Even thoe the fix has improved the stuttter considerably i`m still not giving the engine 10/10. I plan to revert the emissions back to Euro 3 compliant. No point asking the dealer as he has to stick within the Euro 4 specs so does anyone know 100% if all that is required is a replacement EGR gasket or is there more work involved such as an ECU update.

Thx

I would like to do the same, even though my stutter has gone the 06 still hasn’t got the same throttle response as my 05 had and seems to take longer for the turbo to spin when I put my foot down, I asked the service guy but he said he could not help if it affected E4 output but what I did was my own business.

Warranty issues aside I have ordered a Haynes manual so hopefully this will help.

I can't comment on how long it took because I completely forgot I was taking my car in and ended up getting there at midday (should've been 9am) They didn't finish it by 6pm and I had to collect it the next day but I don't know when they actually started. When I booked it in they wanted it for a whole day just to be on the safe side and I think they do a considerable test drive afterwards.

I rang SUK to check what mine needed and they took my reg and then told me I just needed the EGR.

Sorry if this sounds brain dead but I've done an early shift today.

HTH :)

100BHP 1.9 TDI Fabia ELEGANCE ESTATE. 1100 miles from new.

The garage had my car in last Friday and fitted the new Gasket and carried out the mod to the ECU. The result after 400 miles ...combined mpg about 57, local about 48, continuous journey over say 80 miles 62. This is to their claimed figures and is now the same as my previous 2001 car (same as this one except for the EU1V engine)

The hesitation is a lot better but still detectable.

All through this business Skoda have said that the problem only applies to the 2006 VRS . NOT TRUE !

Anyway I am now fairly happy but have requested both the dealer and Skoda Customer Services that if a permanent and total cure is found, I would like them to finally fix mine, and hopefully everyone else as well.

Skoda by the way pointed out that the problem does not need a recall because it is not a safety problem (just bl--dy frustrating )

Cheers all

Folks,

Had mine fixed on Saturday ... arrived at 8am ... got car back fixed by 11am. So far 100 miles driven and all seems well ... no ECU update needed though.

Am now trying to pursue Skoda for a jesture of good will based on

1) Not a complete fix for the problem - stated on their own bulletin

2) Waiting 6 months and 9000 miles for a resolution

Got mine done after 650 miles when the heater matrics decided to wee coolant all over the road :-)

14.5mm drilled EGR valve, and not notices it stutter yet and done a couple of hundred more miles. Very happy, + got map so those with... it still cures it.

What would you like. They fixed it. ;) ..............:D You hope

Just a quick update, I have had it done near on a week now and so far so good, but as I said earlier I have only driven to work and back. This is about a 14 mile round trip. I'm off work for a bit now so hoping to take it for a proper drive ;) and will update further.

Further update .. .I have now done about 400 miles. Underlying problem is still there, just not as apparant - you can make it happen if you consistently drive just above 2000rpm and drop through to 1500rpm and accelerate gently back through to over 2000rpm. I know this sounds strange, but is the sort of thing that does happen when in slow but not staionary traffic .. after a few goes it hessitates and then seems fine again, most prominent with the engine cold. This matches with Skoda Bulletin thats states cold running issues ...

As regards Skoda UK - blanket approach, no gesture of good will as apparantly them not offering a 100% fix causes no inconvenience, or affects the drivabilty of the car for owners !! Also as the cars were not 'off the road' then we can expect nothing as again no inconvenience ! Has anyone taken this up with Watcdog / Trading Standards / What Car etc - that cars are being sold with known unresolvable defect that was initially a fault and has slipped nicely into a characteristic of Euro IV emmissions, does that mean all manufactures diesel engines suffer the same !!!

Oddly enough I'm in Winchester County Court next week raising the exact issues you mention with Winchester Motor Company and Skoda UK as co-defendants. I'll let you know what a judge thinks. If anyone has any input they would like to make please pm me ASAP. I'm preparing my case over the next couple of days.

Wish you luck and most interested to know how you get on. I'm thinking this is the only way forward as Skoda now seem to have decided to ditch us and our stuttering Fabias whilst continuing to unload their fault product on more unsuspecting customers. Worse still they are blaming European emission regs for the problem, not their own poor design and enginering. Heaven help us if other manufacturers jump on the bandwagon.

I doubt very much whether Honda or Toyota would take the same attitude.

Despite having the full fix, the hesitation and stuttering are worse than ever now that the cold weather has arrived whilst fuel consumption, though slightly improved, is still well below the published mpg and the excellent economy of my previous Fabia.

If you have'nt seen it yet, have a look at the Skoda customer service bulletin dated

2 October 2006 which should give you useful ammunition for your case (see link below courtesy of VRStu Fabia-vrs.com - Hesitation around 1800 rpm - Fabia vRS - BLT engine code.

If you use the copy of the TSB please don't disclose the source. I'm not foolish enough to think they won't know it's around but I'd rather not have it highlighted. The longer these things can remain in the public domain the better for everyone.

Please do keep us informed, via PM if you think it warrants it but I'd be keen to know.

I have had the fix done by Robinsons in Norwich and its a great improvement. The bottom line is that its not severe enough to bug me any more. For some reason it seems that the fix is not getting the same result with everyone, maybe the mapping is the variable. Thanks to the comments on this forum I have been able to pressurise Skoda to do something about my Fabia and I thank you all for your input. Hope you all get a solution your happy with but I will be sitting back for now unless it decides to play up again.

Have had mine in for the fi and am very impressed with the result - yes there is very very occasionally a very slight hesitation but it is barley noticable and nothing like it was before. In fact had i not experienced the problem before then Im not sure I would really notice it now.

So to get to the point in my mind it is fixed and perhaps Skoda should have gone about things better but can everyone not just drop it now especially suggesting that the fix is no good - this isnt doing much for the resale values and I think its wrong to suggest there is much of a problem now.

Skoda UK sent me the TSB as part of their defence documents, so I'm guessing they're happy for it to be publicised. I'll provide a copy to anyone who wants it. I also have technical reports from Skoda UK and the Czech factory, which make interesting reading.

I doubt very much whether Honda or Toyota would take the same attitude.

I doubt that they would ever release a car in such a state & avoid the problem that way, the proper way
