DCC Slider adjustment option mod

DCC Slider Adjustment Mod

(I’m looking for anyone with experience doing this or data required for this)

2020+ Arteon and Passats equipped with DCC now come with a slider in Individual driving mode that allows you select DCC settings from 0-15 instead of just Comfort - Normal - Sport. This allows settings softer than comfort (LOL), firmer that Sport and everything in between.

Photo below for reference.

I understand the Mk4 Octavia too has this and I’m waiting to hear if the 2020+ Superb also has it.

Turns out this is something that is possible to modify into your DCC equipped car through coding.

Apparently, to do this you need:

- DCC Firmware from 2020/2021 Arteon or Passat. They have the 0-15 range.

- The right DCC parametrisation that goes with this firmware.

- FPA dataset (Gateway dataset that holds the settings for your driving profiles) that enables the slider.

This can be flashed with ODIS or VCP only.

Anyone out there have any experience with this?

I’ve found some threads on Golf Mk7 forums but have not been able to get the firmware or datasets as they come from the Passat or Arteon.

I believe this is done via the gateway dataset and creating a custom dataset yourself that enables this slider. I mean its from an MQB platform so its possible, just depends how hard really and if anyone has decrypted the relevant datasets.

@ApertureS I’ve actually already found a dataset for the slider function linked in here:

https://www.golfmk7.com/forums/index.php?threads/what-did-you-do-to-your-mk7-today.316916/page-2469#post-7851841

Thanks to Cuzoe from the Mk7 forum. The drawback is that his dataset is modified for his DCC retrofit into a golf so while the functional data is in there I’m not sure it’s in the best format for input into a Superb.

There is also a user Chillout on that forum who has done this and has the necessary files but he has not been online since July so I’m hoping he replies to my DM. His conclusion was the 3 bullet points in my original post are what you need to complete it:

https://www.golfmk7.com/forums/index.php?threads/dcc-suspension-mod-by-installing-the-dsc-sport-controller.385091/page-2#post-7654299

further discussion on it here from post 31:

https://www.golfmk7.com/forums/index.php?threads/bilstein-b6-suspension-chasis-rebuild.386543/page-3#post-7862187

I’ll certainly update this thread with my progress if anyones interested.

Youre in luck, this is what youre after.

https://www.glaskugelservice.de/codierung/dcc-auf-index-c

https://github.com/jilleb/MQB-FPA

The first link is bringing the DCC module up to the new spec.

The second link is the CUSTOM driver profile file you have to make to accommodate the new values 1-15 not 1-3.

Should be all you need.

Oh WOW! Thank you very much! That’s absolutely fantastic and hugely appreciated. I’ll work on getting this done in early September at the same time as my virtual cockpit install and will report back with the progress.

Thanks again, @ApertureS!

I think all owners of DCC equipped Superb 3's would love this mod!

It can be done for all. But every user would need a custom dataset making, sadly not a one size fits all jobby.

I'll be discussing this at length with my ODIS/VCP expert and will try to take notes on the steps he takes. I'm expecting this may take a little time as he's not specifically worked on this modification before but I'll be sure to update here as progress is made.

Might be worth messing this person: https://www.golfmk7.com/forums/index.php?threads/dcc-retrofit.378431/page-13#post-7863727

Seems they are collecting a few datasets at the moment, hopefully they'll put them all online soon.

If you come across a C rev Arteon or B rev Octavia dataset it would great if you can post them here

This link that ApertureS shared is actually from a German guy with an Octavia who did this!

https://www.glaskugelservice.de/codierung/dcc-auf-index-c

It looks like either the Passat set simply worked or he modified it.

Alas the only part he shared was a gateway dataset. I assume he tweaked it in a similar way to this Russian chap: https://www.drive2.ru/l/604209952961078465/

I found what appears to be a C rev flash file but I've never found a dataset to go with it. I don't use VCP so I can't just grab their version 😞

I was hoping there might be an ODIS xml dataset floating round by now given it seems to be becoming a more well understood/popular tweak.

Ah that sucks. My (crude) understanding is that whoever you use to do the VCP or ODIS work should be able to download or source the firmware you need regardless. The German site linked seems to have used an Arteon file ("arteon_dcc_5q0907376c.zdc") which i can see exists on a Russian VCP resource. I've already shared the links and resources I've gathered to date with my friendly local VCP/ODIS expert who is going to take a few weeks to get his head around it and some of the other tweaks i want to try. I imagine it may need a few attempts too.

Are you able to share the Rev C flash file you managed to find? You can PM me if you don't fancy sharing it on the thread.

In any case, once I have this worked out I'll be happy to line people up with the resources I've found.

Genuine ODIS with an online connection can pull appropriate datasets but afaik, it can only typically get datasets for modules originally installed for a VIN. Once updated, it'll no longer be a valid config and it'll refuse to provide a dataset.

I've seen mention of the ZDC but I've never seem a copy online, they also tend to be encrypted to avoid cloned/pirated VCP interfaces so even if I did find it, I probably can't convert it for use with ODIS.

Saying that, I literally just found what appears to be an ODIS XML on a random site: https://bbs.vwodis.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=31  Annoyingly, it is behind a paywall... I think 19000 'credits' are 190 CNY or ~£24 or 40 AUD although I'm not sure what payment methods they accept. Feels slightly dodgy but I might try and buy it later.

As for the update file, that's available via one of the normal sources for this kinda stuff: https://mibsolution.one/#/1/9/Datasets/MQB/14 I haven't tested or verified it's legit. From what I can see, VAG never released this update :o

Ive attached a updated firmware - Seems to be for VW but cant tell what model, if its arteon or what.

EDIT: Ive also got 2 datasets for DCC - second one is a leon, unsure on the first one.

The firmware is likely generic, it's the dataset that's the harder part to find.

Thanks though! I'll compare it to the thing I have...

Ive now got 2 GATEWAY datasets for a superb - They are unmodified - Im not saying use any of this stuff without triple checking its what you need. The 2 gateway files below may come in handy for someone to tinker with and experiment with the slider. I personally wouldnt upload to the car though.

If I was you guys, I would find someone with ODIS, pull the original file from your vehicle and intercept it. Modify it to your liking, then offline upload it. If you do it any other way with someone elses dataset you risk not having the correct data on there for your car.

FL_5Q0907376C__0130.odx looks like an ODIS flash file.

FL_5Q0907376C__0130.xml is basically identical, a name field changed from Henno to Stephan Pölzl.

leon_dcc_5q0907376b.xml is slightly odd, it's not a ODIS XML dataset file, it might be some VCP thing as it appears to contain a number of different datasets...

The missing part is still a publicly available C rev dataset, the B rev won't work :)

Apologies. Seems ive updated both flash versions in odx and xml. The 3rd one is dataset but for B version.

Ive attached C version Arteon dataset as you need.

Edit: Ive also attached a passat dataset

Surprising amount of data that can be done and messed with in the gateway dataset. Glad you got it all done fairly simply.

My next retrofit will be DCC so now it’s just a case of working out if as well as FPA if it is a SWaP code needed as well.

once done this will be a no brainier to add to it and enhance it.

how do the extreme comfort++ and sport++ setting feel compared to the stock settings?

Honestly, hard to tell as it's a very subjective thing...

I'd probably say it's a little softer and harder than before but I don't think there is much in it, especially as I'd typically be in normal previously so I don't have a decent baseline.

I've tried a few settings today and settled about half way between normal and sport. I was hoping for more granularity rather than being able to set it softer or harder so I'm happy at that :)
