Even more software errors

This afternoon on my way home I received the first error messages on my dashboard: "Lane Assist temporary unavailable" followed immediately by "Front Assist temporary unavailable". I turned on the Lane Assist (turned off after I started the car) and it seemed to be working correctly - it detected the lane lines and showed the green symbol on the dash... Don't know what to say about this event.

This is how I experience it. At random moments TA fails and, if it was engaged, it gets knocked out. But I may re-engage it right away and it will continue working until next failure. It is not common for it to fail for long time continuously, when yellow lights are staying lit on dashboard, however, it may happen, and then I couldn't engage it. 1896 as well.

By the way, I'm getting sometimes OTA updates. There is never ever any info about what updates are including and whenever they are installed, the page with the list of updates (when checking in system info) stays blank. However, some changes happen. For example, once I got a feeling that my car had auto hold function when I was buying it, but it didn't work and I couldn't find it anywhere in the settings. When I realized that, I just shrugged and thought it is just another feature which disappeared after my dealer changed entertainment module and upgraded software after my first visit to a workshop. But recently, after another OTA update, auto hold just appeared and working fine like it is supposed to... Go figure what surprises I should expect with next updates.

At least the dings aren't in any body panels... 😜   Sorry, not helpful I know - but I can imagine how annoying the errors must be. Hope you can get it sorted.

Been told today that there is a software update now available that should stop these errors.  Due to be applied next week.

OTA update or has to be done at workshop?

Workshop.

So Skoda emailed to pass on what this update involves:

“Travel assist will need to be temporarily deactivated which in turn will deactivate the emergency assist function completely. The Start/Stop function of the ACC will be reduced.”

So, not an update, and rather, turning stuff off.

🤦🏼🤦🏼🤦🏼

Oh, great! I would rather skip it for now. But anyway, my workshop told me they heard nothing about such update so far.

Seems they are changing coding to disable capacitive steering wheel.

This is a temporary workaround, until they can finally manufacture steering wheel correctly 🤣

Anyway in some cases it's really needed. For many people the issue is getting worse up to the point, where errors are poping up every few seconds and systems are getting useless. By disabling capacitive steering wheel errors are gone, and systems are at least partially usable.

Good to know they now offer this as official service, cause so far they didn't, so users could either use OBD11/VCDS to disable it, or got stuck with "ping" sound every few seconds...

Mine has been throwing errors pretty constant on some journeys, infrequent on others, or nothing at all on some.

Had a new steering wheel.

I had the new steering wheel a couple a weeks ago as well , and had no errors since.

I can also confirm that the official fix from Skoda includes a replacement of the Steering Wheel. I am still waiting in line at my dealer to get it replaced but hopefully this is the final fix.

Guys, how do you convince dealers to change steering wheels? Mine still claims that it was an old solution which Skoda stopped doing. Of course referring to online conversations does not help to convince them there should be such option.

I can give some more details. I reported the issue a couple of times to my local dealers service department late  autumn last year. They logged technical data from my car and sent it to the Danish importer. In february the did  some more testing of my car and then they concluded a new steering wheel was necessary. But if that is the right solution I do not know before is has been replaced and testet. Maybe this fix is only relevant for cars delivered as part of the first Octavia IV batch which was in autumn 2020?

My understanding is that this is the fix. This is an updated steering wheel, according to the dealer, rather than a like for like swap.

My dealer does nothing until I leave a 1 star google review. After posting the review the dealer called me within 2 hours to ask what needed to be done for me to remove the review….. very sad.

I had similar experience when I filled in Skoda satisfaction survey. Dealer left me with broken infotainment and ignored my attempts to reach them. After I filled the survey in quite a negative way, they called me from customer support to ask for more details. Next day someone from head office of the company to which dealership belongs called me and asked to come and "they'll do whatever has to be done". When I brought my car back to them, they couldn't explain why they ignored my email and never called me back after I left them voice messages.

After being used to sporadically get one or two errors (e.g. Lane Assist unavailable, Front Assist unavailable, Park Assist unavailable et al.) when starting the car in the beginning of the weekend, this weekend I noticed a new kind of behavior. The error was completely new - "Vehicle lightning" - and the warning light was on until I stopped the engine after several minutes. In all previous cases the errors that were showing up when starting the engine were vanishing in about 10-20 seconds.
The error was gone when I restarted the engine, but had a new problem while exiting the parking place: I was parallel parked and had to reverse to get out - the camera image froze on the HU and the parking sensors beeping didn't change frequency as I was approaching the car behind me. So I stopped maneuvering waiting for the system to "wake up", immediately saw "Sound unavailable" on the screen for 1 second and then the HU restarted on it's own. Everything worked after that.
After a ~200km trip the car was parked for ~3h. When I resumed the trip I had to reverse from the parking - same behavior: camera image frozen, HU rebooted...
😡

Hi,

ive been waiting for a new steering wheel since march. But last week my car had a blackout (completly dead) and have been at the workshop since then. Today i picked it up and was surpriced when they said that both problems was solved by a software update. They cancelled the backorder for the steering wheel and was very confident that it was no need for that any more.

I will know after a while...

Same here. I went to my dealer last week to temporarily disable lane assist and crash detection and to be listed for a new steering wheel. When I picked my car up at the end of the day it was exactly the same story: "We have installed a software update and we are confident all errors are gone without disabling any of the features". I have been driving without annoying beeps and lights since. The only thing that annoying now is the occasional reboots of the entertainment system.

Ive had the infotainment system do that a couple of times and then an update dropped in and nothing since, the only thing I see occasionally is the clock saying 00:00 instead of the correct time. But it soon corrects itself.

They finally scheduled me for update as well after I was annoying importer's customer support. Apart of update to get rid of assistance systems failing, I asked them to check infotainment again (it was checked before and changed last year), as at became extremely unstable with warmer weather. Fingers crossed they'll manage to fix that as well.

Had the software upgrade/update a couple of days ago but took an absolute age to get installed because I was doing short trips.

I was generally under the impression that it updates itself when the car is stationary or parked up for a period of time.

So, those of you on software 1900, has it resolved all issues or are there still glitches?

Had no issues with anything so far.
