Axle Stands & Jacking

Featured Replies

Anyone know how yiu can jack up a karoq and put 4 axle stands on the correct weight bearing area ( the pinch welds).  Given that the correct jacking points are - the pinch welds). - I have tried using 3 different types of jacks - but no space to jack up and put a axle stand next to the jack.

I was advised by Skoda the jacking a karoq up on non specified jacking points ( chassis, suspension, differential etc ) would damage the car and invalidate warranty.

Sorry can't answer this question, but here is an observation.

I had a problem using my small trolley jack on the specified jacking points.  The head of the jack did not spread the load around the seam.

I solved the problem by cutting a groove in an ice hockey puck.  They are a hard rubber and not expensive.  This idea may be useful with the axle stands.

I'm curious why you need four wheels off the ground all at the same time?

Good luck

tom

I have used the lower mounting points for the suspension arms when jacking the Octavia - you will require a low-profile trolley jack to get under these though. Careful placement of the jack is essential.

There was a time in the past when you could get RennStands from America - BUT - incredible expenses and no longer in production. - I have never seen a UK equivalent.

Now they look a great idea!

In the past I've used a jack on the sill jacking points and then, like suggested above, used the lower arm chassis mounting points for stands.  Never had an issue doing that and Id be seriously worried if any manufacturer tries to suggest those points aren't strong enough given they are where the suspension mounts and the loading they take during driving.

Found this in the workshop manual…

I was told that the points should only be used by lifting devices (all 4 at same time) and NOT individually as they are designed to distribute the weight.

That could not be possible when using the OEM jack to change a wheel.

The fact is that 'they" are liable to say anything to put people off  attempting their own maintenance and repairs in order to fleece you out of £££.

From tailor made oils to exotic shaped screws and bolts with mystical torque settings, all guaranteed to scare the carp out of the average motorist.

It's just a car, if we look at it logically it's not that difficult to diy.

Apparently spare wheel kits now come with 4 jacks. 🤣

I thought that was a rather weird statement too. Even if you did have four jacks, you'd need four people to raise them at the same time 🤣 🤣

Here's a link to a very good video, the guy is clear and concise with his explanation on how to safely raise, support and lower a vehicle.

This is one of the best videos I have come across, he knows what he is talking about.

Bear in mind that attempting to carry out the lift with a tiny diy trolley jack will not be as easy as using a full length jack.

Sorry have I missed something?

The video I get shows how to lower the car and the jack is not placed at the sill jacking points.

How is this relevant to jacking a car at the proper sill jacking points and then putting the car on axle stands?

It demonstrates that there are alternative points on a vehicle that can safely be used to raise the car.
