It's certainly not 'the future' as it can't do anything with SFD2

That is Not correct

Took me a few looks to work out that was a white presentation box, so what is in the box that is the future now?

the saying was meant rather sarcastically

You may want to do some research….

Volkswagen Group (VAG) vehicles

New Volkswagen Group (VAG) models from 2024 have updated security features (UNECE R155 and R156) to protect the car’s software. This new layer of protection, sometimes called “SFD2,” safeguards the car’s control units from unauthorized access, particularly for updates performed over the air (OTA).

Under these new security measures, OBDeleven can only fully communicate with the car's main diagnostic part – the gateway control unit. This means we can’t fully scan or interact with other control units as we do with other car models.

Thank you, I'm familiar with the subject... you should therefore know that even with the SFD 2 contract with VW, which is currently being negotiated, it would never be possible to process SFD 2 with gen 2. The hardware basis for SFD 2 was implemented with gen 3.

A complete scan with full SFD 2 protection is possible with gen 2, I have done it myself with a Skoda Karoq 2025

Can you code with it?

No.

Once this can be done by unlocking SFD2 then yes it’s progress, until then it’s a step backwards for anyone with a newish car.

Any for sale?

New to the forum.

However, I spent some time last week trying to find a solution for SFD2.

Currently , I can’t find one………Anywhere.

VCDS, who I think are the better option fully admit and give more detail than their competitors on the subject.

It’s still not simple for authorised dealers to make changes and has a cost to them my informant says.

I haven’t fact checked the last bit to be honest

Will a car registered in late 2023 be affected by SFD2?

What coder would ppl seriously recommend without being bias?

Probably yes as it’s mainly MY24 onwards cars affected.

I own OBDII, VCDS (HEX-NET) and also had VCP.

For me VCDS was / is always my ‘go to’ device.

Which Car?

Skoda released the SFD 2 protection at most two months before the EU deadline. I've had plenty of MY24 vehicles without SFD 2. I can tell you exactly if you send me the VIN via PM.

The Kodiaq 2 and Superb 4 were exceptions.

Regarding a diagnostic tool, what features do you want to be able to use? For data set and firmware flashing, I definitely recommend VC Tool. For everything else, Car Scanner Pro is sufficient. OBD 11 costs a monthly/annual subscription. VCDS is too expensive without VIN restrictions. VCP costs an annual subscription if you want the latest version. VC Tool also costs money, monthly/annually, but offers the most features. It requires a VAS 6154a dongle.

Which vehicle did you use to read the data? Felicia? Back then, there was another list showing which channel was which; even the workshop with the factory tester didn't see that. OBD11 can't be blamed for that.

In their site the Felicia was in their list, that's why i bought it.

As you can see in the 3 photos (in the link) shows some Live data with no explanation.

Yes to Support it...

You need the document that describes the channels. This list might help:
