VRS Door Sill Protector - Manufacturing Fault

Featured Replies

Ah, right. It's Approved Used with 12 months warranty - do you think that it would be covered?

No door seals are classed as wear and tear..... They are only about £30 or so and can be replaced yourself.

That's disappointing. Only bought it 10 days ago and if I had done a hands and knees check and found it, I daresay some adjustment could have been agreed with the sale hanging on it. But I sort of assumed that Skoda's Approved Used label meant that there was no need for a "CSI" approach. Let's see what the dealer comes back with...watch this space😬

You could give it a try with it being a couple of weeks after purchase.

My salesman's referred it to servicing this morning so I'll know soon enough. I might just win the sympathy vote, given that it's only been driveable for six out of 10 days since purchase. This is because of some random scummer who punched in my driver door glass a few days ago - it's a traditional form of greeting in the area where I live - and Autoglass cannot do me until next week. Hey ho.

Big tip of the hat to Marshall's Skoda Oxford - faulty door seal replaced under warranty. Neat job, like new, quickly done.

Hi there,

I have recently purchased a 2021 Octavia vRS 245bhp estate and am gradually going through the car to get it back to showroom condition.

One of the things that is letting the car down is the vRS sill protectors which appears to be a regular issue for owners from this thread.

My question is does anyone know what the part number is for these sill protectors so I can order replacements that keep the car as original as possible.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

It looks like the part number is 5E3 071 303

Looks like you'll be looking for a new driver's seat also. 😮

Škoda Australia (Volkswagen Group Australia) via the local dealer have said it's wear and tear and also that they don't cover paint damage - although I have no written denial. I have no idea on how to get in contact with Škoda CZ and Škoda Australia defer support requests back to whoever your local dealer is.

But I've noticed a fair few people mentioning this issue through Facebook groups, so thought a good way to bring attention to it would be to start taking records of the issue. Then as people make claims they can refer to this thread where hopefully owners will have posted a fair few examples.

I installed the genuine illuminated sill protectors are part number 5E3071300. They're not wired in, they powered by button batteries with motion sensors. Unlike the standard sills, they're designed to unclip so that you can replace the battery.

Kopacek have them for sale here: https://www.kopacek.com/Skoda/OCTAVIA-IV/Octavia-IV-original-Skoda-Autoas-interior-door-sills-with-BACKLIGHT

Sorry to hijack this but does anyone know if there are Genuine vRS illuminated ones of these, can find aftermarket ones but can't seem to find anything original

Yes yes, another one touched by this.

In my case, instead going again with OEM part, I bought 5E3071310A. Even with the proper coating of the OEM part, PU surface is way more durable, and you get a full set, front and back.

Regarding the original part, and besides the lack of coating, I am not sure if the painting was done properly, because when I was removing them, after applying a bit of heat gun, incredible, paint peeling by itself.

@Mario_Delgado do you have any pictures how does it look in real life?

Sure!

And rear:

Besides the material and design, the front one is longer, +/- 10 cm longer, so it covers more surface.

Thanks. Looks quite nice.

You have an interior with a grey stitching ?

Yes, grey stitching instead red, wife's requirement.

These are almost identical to the sills on my Kamiq. Which looked like new after two years. I believe they’re for the Octavia Sportline.

You should consider upgrading to the ‘grey line’ premium floor mats. They’ve got a grey piped edge.

the carpet quality is also better then the factory fit carpet.

I helped my mum to source genuine Copper stitched ‘premium’ floor mats and cargo to match her Kamiq copper stitching.

Just been in contact with my local dealership and to supply and fit the replacement vRS sill protectors they wanted £219.60 a side or £93.60 supplied only.

As a result I’m gonna order the new ones and fit them myself.

Was it easy removing the original sill protectors?

yes it was, with a heat gun you can remove it without problem. It was more tedious the cleaning with alcohol though.
