Infotainment system switches itself on

Featured Replies

Hi,

It happened twice now that I walked past my parked and locked Mk IV Octavia and I noticed that the infotainment system was on and the radio playing.  Anyone had this before?  Both times it was on a sunny day, so quite warm inside the car.  Is there any way so that the infotainment system can only be switched on with a key present?

Car is from Sep 2020 with 1941 software version.

Thanks,

Peter

  • Well, I had another go at disconnecting the flat cable as suggested earlier in this post. I had both, the black and blue plugs connected and the radio was on (not sure if the ignition was also on). I

  • Hello, I got my car back from the workshop today. Can confirm that only the display unit (5E3919605) got replaced under warranty. The previous display unit was hardware H47, now the new one is H49.

Yup. Welcome, mine is well into this at the moment. It’s going to the dealer on Friday but I’m not optimistic for a quick resolution.

today it was stable, but it did reset all my user settings over night. Which was nice.

It did it so much over the weekend that i got a 12v low battery warning.

I’ll update you if the dealer figures it out.

Had to get a new screen to fix mine. It's winter in aus atm so far so good but haven't had hot weather to test it properly since the fix. Mine was killing the battery so dealer wouldn't release the car until it was fixed. Skoda were great and easy to deal with in organising a loan car though which was a bonus. Big thumbs up for Kevin Dennis who diagnosed and fixed with the minimum of fuss. Big comparison to another dealer who couldn't even be bothered to update the software which they were saying would fix it (said they did but car hadnt been updated since being built despite being back 3 times to the dealer for the same issue). All down to getting a great dealer...

Good luck with yours!

Would be very helpful if those who managed to fix problem would give as much tech details here as possible, so others could guide their dealers on what should be done.

Same issue here about 10 days ago. Happened for a day and hasnt done it since. Booked for a service next week and will mention it but I am not confident of a quick fix.

I took a heap of videos from both inside and outside the car whilst locked showing the red flashy light in the door showing it was locked and showing the screen cycling on and off. As a by product of wireless AA, was also playing music. The videos and the explanation that it was 10 times worse when hot + advising what others on the forum had gotten done (swapped screens) seemed to do the trick nice and easy to get skoda to agree to swap the screen.

Spoke to the dealer at length who advised that 1 guy at the dealer is on his 3rd screen swap so possible there's a bunch of crap screens prone to going on Fritz when the temp goes above 20 degrees.

I won't be waiting for the 3rd screen. Have been back 4 times now for the same issue so will be pushing for a buyback.  Pretty stupid to have a car whose electronics can't cope with a 20 degree day. We get into the 40's here....

My issue occurred during a period of warmer than usual weather also but strangely kicked off in morning time when temperature was not very high.

I also had all possible issues when it is hot outside (+40 is not uncommon where I live), though workshop insisted it was never an issue with the screen itself, but something else. They could not explain what exactly, they were invoicing change of MIB module and in the end combination of new MIB, new SW on it solved the issue. It reappeared a few times since then but that's about it. So perhaps it is not the screen indeed. That's why I think would be nice if someone gets more details from techs to see what they actually do.

Also, mine was starting up during the night in garage as well after being exposed to the heat on the previous day.

In my case screen replaced by dealer, they sad that is solution when i initially called them, they did it before. Action was approved (proposed, whatever) almost immediately by factory. So far so good, maybe 3 weeks passed without issue. Still waiting for summer and constant sun and temperatures over 30 C, but it is promising.

Personally, i think this is purely HW problem. Power button is shorting somehow and duration of shorting is causing on/off, mute/unmute and rebooting.

Did they replace it outside of warranty for free?

Sorry, forgot to mention, it was under warranty. Standard for Serbia is 120kkm or 4 years (extended 150kkm or 5 years), and i bought the car in september 2020, now with 104kkm. So im using it to the last minute😁 Right now i am waiting for new rear camera, for almost two months now. Blurred image on current one all of a sudden. No other issue since 1941 update last summer.

Lucky you.  We only get 3 years warranty which expired last September for me...

Ok, so I was commenting in this thread earlier without expecting to come later today to my car and find it in an on/off loop :D When parked at home, infotainment was switching on while car is locked. This time it is wireless AA though. Switched off car's wifi and that solved the issue. Just another example that apart of screen or its buttons there may be many other causes...

So mine was supposed to be at the dealer for this tomorrow, but for some reason theres been a mix up and I have no appointment afterall. They're going to look in July. The problem is, unless its actively boot looping when they have it, or there is a fault code stored, then they wont do anything about it.

Now mine has behaved itself since Tuesday, so I'm fearful it'll be fine when it goes in for them to look at. They said they wont accept videos or pictures as evidence of a fault either.

Its pretty frustrating. It did occour to me that this happened last year, about the same time that software version 1941 was released, and now not long after 1969 is released, the same thing again. Maybe it has more to do with the servers at VW than the car itself, also odd that my problems stopped right after it reset all its preferences/user profile settings. Also that others on this forum started reporting it about the same time.... maybe nothing.

Anyway, I'll sit tight until July, or the next spell of hot weather and I might see more of a pattern emerging.

There won't be any fault code. As far as I am aware, it is possible to see logs and see at least reboots there triggered by some errors, but no fault codes as those which prompt messages on dashboard, which workshops use as an excuse to do nothing.

You need to record your VIN together with the issue. So make a video of the problem and then move camera to show VIN under the windshield. They can't reject this evidence.

Yes, it is. As someone who had 20+ trips to workshops and most of them were because of similar issues, I know.

Saying all that, my issue appeared again after I thought that switching off wifi helped. On top of that now volume goes up. Though they were supposed to deal with my infotainment yesterday during planned visit to change gear selector, they did nothing because they "had no connection with Skoda and couldn't do any works" and gave me next appointment in 2 weeks from now. Yay! Love this brand more and more.

+1 for video with VIN number, without registration plate. Always worked for me.

Edit: Also with visible mileage.

I contacted Skoda support and suggested that they would gather all info from the garages worldwide which had vehicles in with that issue.  Unfortunately, I was only told that the local service manager would contact me to have the car booked in.  That was over a week ago and I have not been contacted by anyone - no surprise there.  I am also reluctant to book it in (out of warranty) because the issue is not reproducible but happens randomly.

Anyway, I have now turned the car's WIFI off (not using it anyway) and also hand gesture, proximity and whatever else I could find in the infotainment menu.  We'll see how it behaves now.

Anyone with more luck finding the actual source of the problem?

Hi all!

This happens also to my 2018 octavia 3 face-lift. It kills the battery sometimes overnight.

Even when outside are less than 5 degrees Celsius - so I believe the point with the high temperature is not valid in all cases.

Waiting for any suggestions from your side.

Not sure Mk4 owners will suggest anything regarding Mk3. Different hardware, different reasons for your problems.

Just a note, that mine has started doing this a little again this month. Exactly a year ago it was last doing it, and no issues since. It also did it in June 23 with no issues until June 24.

There’s some kind of pattern with this for me and it’s more to do with it being June at the moment. It was sat in 32 degree heat and sunshine on Saturday no problem.

14 degrees this morning and it’s doing it, so I don’t think it’s just heat related.

Interesting that you also get it when it's not hot. Was it sunny but not hot outside? It could just be the sun was enough to heat up the inside of the car.

It started for me as well again this year after months of no problems. I wrote to Skoda HQ again, but as usual they just say to book it in. I even pointed out to them that the same thing is happening worldwide and that they should be able to see that in their data but they ignored it.

I am hoping that someone here has figured this out by now. Maybe a certain setting in the infotainment system triggers it?

Thank you for the tip. I assume that doesn't fix the issue of the infotainment system turning on and off when the car is locked?

Sorun çözüldü, sıkıntı kalmadı

Sadece ses tuşu direksiyon dan kumada ediyorum 👍
