If you do a factory reset the new software stays in place. Only thing you need to make your self head-user again. Then the problem should be solved.

I installed the new update via USB, not OTA, and not experienced any issues so maybe it’s the way the OTA update applies it to the system? For those having issues have you tried a complete factory reset? I have always done this after each update I have applied, maybe it makes no difference but in my mind it’s like starting with a clean slate.

After installing 1989 OTA last Friday my system had a complete meltdown this morning with an almost continuous freeze and reboot cycle.

I was reluctant to reset to factory settings because I've had problems in the past setting the primary user, but I bit the bullet and did a reset.

Early indications are that it worked, and the primary user set up went ok as well. The reset seems to have fixed the ACC driving on the right issue as well. Finger crossed, and thanks for the suggestion.

Reading many posts on here over the last couple of years about these updates it appears to me that after a major update it's advisable to do a reset to factory settings and go through the pain of restoring your preferences etc.

I have a theory that the updates that cause this sort of problem use a different format of the internal database used to save settings etc. - this is something I saw often when I was still working as a firmware designer.

I could be wrong, just sharing my thoughts and observations...

In fact, restoring primary user and settings was simple, once logged in it remembered radio stations and destinations. The one positive is that i now have a station logo for LBC, a first!

Mine updated to 1989 OTA this morning. Complete mess. System won't leave Android Auto, all buttons freeze including climate hard button. Reboot and it does it again. Worked perfectly with 1985. Nightmare. I really hate this car now, I new I should have bought a Corolla estate.

Same here. Update 1989 happened to me OTA last week. All seemed to go ok.
But now the infotainment system is a complete mess.

Every time I press the Home button it freezes and reboots.

When I start the car and confirm my user, it takes quite a few seconds to populate all the icons on the menu screen.

A friend sent me a location in a message on my iphone so i connected via Carplay and used the iphone map, rather than trying to find the address in the Skoda satnav. Started out ok, but if anything interrupted it - like receiving a phonecall - it hangs.

Sometimes after about 30secs it'll figure out its hung and reboot. Other times I have to hold the power button to get it to reboot.
Whenever I start the car or reboot the infotainment unit it tries to restart from where it was previously. A couple days ago this turned into an endless round of hangs and reboots that lasted for about 30mins! I don't know what app it was trying to load, but it must have kept crashing and rebooting. Eventually (after many attempts) I got it to reboot by holding the power button and it booted straight into the Satnav app ok.

Occasionally when I start the car I get an amber warning light saying the parking sensor is not available. It will stay like that until I turn the car off and restart it. Sometimes it happens again when I restart, sometimes not.
Sometimes while I'm driving and listening to the radio it'll randomly go blank screen and then reboot itself again. Sometimes this turns into a about 3 or 4 times in a loop, sometimes just the once.

Sometimes even the latching buttons beneath the screen for Mode or Settings (where I can turn of auto stop/start) stop working.

Its driving me crazy! I was on 1985 previously and didn't have any of these problems.

Its a 70 plate second hand Octavia Estate Mk4 with the MIB3 unit. If I take it to a dealer they'll likely charge me a couple hundred to reset/reload it and hope for the best.

I've seen some posts suggesting a "factory reset" might sort it out?

Will this be in the installer menu (hold the menu button for 5secs)?
What exactly does a factory reset do? Does it reset the infotainment back to its as-new out of the box firmware level and settings? And then hope if the OTA update kicks in again its not the same trainwreck it is now? Will it also factory reset the map database version?

Any advice or guidance Very Gratefully Received please. Its driving me crazy as it is now.

A factory reset will reset the infotainment back to a clean status without any users associated, apps installed or any personalisation. It will keep the currently installed version of the firmware though, this isn't possible to rollback.

It's certainly worth doing the reset. It's what you would do if selling the car, it clears all user settings, but most are restored when you log back on as primary user. Skoda should include this step as part of the update procedure?

That's exactly what mines was doing following the update, factory reset seems to have cured everything.

Factory reset is in the settings menu. It will initially unlink your car from your primary user account and then reset the system. Then make yourself the primary user again using the two key fobs, and also add any other user accounts. Most of your settings will then be downloaded from the cloud, and finally, re-pair your phone. I suspect this will resolve any outstanding issues and should only take 10-15 minutes.

Over the last couple of years, I have applied three updates to my car via USB and have always done a complete factory reset after each one.

I found out today that 1989 has brought back the issue that makes ACC think the car is in Europe so it refuses to overtake on UK motorways. Unbelievable.

Thats what that was? First time it ever happened to me yesterday and i wondered what was going on!
I was driving on the M40 yesterday morning with the ACC on and set to 72mph. I was in lane1 and it detected the truck in front of me i was catching up to. I checked mirrors, nothing in lane 2, so I indicated right and pulled out into lane2. Car started to accelerate, then as we came up on the truck to overtake, a car icon appeared just to the left of the distance detection display and the car brakes down to match the speed of the truck!
After the initial surprise, i found if i press the accelerator the car icon goes out and it will then proceed to speed back up to the set speed and overtake.

Exactly, it's an old problem that was resolved around 1941 (version not year). Beyond belief that the fault has been reinstated by this update. Anyway, factory reset seems to have sorted it

Are the issues with ACC, Home button and locking up/freezing only happening when updated OTA or are people who updated via USB also having the same issues......

Wondering whether to just install from USB if that method is problem free rather than letting the car update itself by OTA

I've done a factory reset, we'll see.

First time for me, but a couple of things i found interesting.

  • After the reset it seemed to restore the settings I had back when I first registered as primary user, not what I'd set since. Its interesting because they were not defaults, so it is definitely "restoring" something.

  • When I registered the keys, I mistakenly pressed unlock in the opposite order to what I did the first time. This seems to have made both keys map to the same, primary user profile. I don't really mind that, but just find it a bit bizzare and nondeterministic behaviour.

  • After getting out, locking the car, unlocking and getting back in the car was asking for an S-PIN. I don't ever remember setting one, and I'm normally pretty good at keeping a record of these things. I made one up, and it seems to have worked.

I'm hoping this fixes my issues, and I dread encountering some of the issues you guys have mentioned.

I agree with others about it likely being incompatible database schmea or file metadata - devs in general are notorious for not thinking about how migrations will work. What is worrying is all these sorts of issues are usually the sign of crap developers and lack of testing; the last thing you want in a f*ucking car!

Factory reset is an option on the settings menu. Once you have done that you will have to reset up yourself as primary user using both key fobs and also any other user accounts. It’s not that bad as once you log back in the bulk of your settings are downloaded from the cloud. Finally re-pair your phone/s.

Factory reset after the update

Big Thanks to everyone who suggested the Factory Reset option.
I did it over the weekend and is seems to have worked, although I haven't taken the car any distance yet.
It did ask me to accept another application update after the reset, but it only took a few seconds before it said it was complete and that it would take effect at next restart.

I sat in the car and played with the Infotainment - turned the car off and back on a few times to check the infotainment started up ok, swapped between apps and the home screen, started up the Satnav and set a destination, went through the various assist and settings screens, reconnected my moby and fiddled about in carplay, etc - all seemed to be working flawlessly, albeit parked on the drive outside the house.
It didn't specify any particular order for clicking unlock on the two keyfobs, so I don't know what that's done with regard to who it will recognise as Primary User?

It did ask me for an S-PIN (which I don't ever remember setting, but found I had made a note of it in a password vault app I keep on my moby - must've done it when I first got the car then totally forgot about it) and I checked the tick-box to say "don't ask again".
Touch-wood, thats the end of the mess after the last update.

Gotta love Briskoda! Lots of confirmation of same issues experienced (which is a relief - it would have been far worse if it was only me!), and useful guidance to get it sorted. Thanks again everyone!

Hi everyone.

I have get the OTA update one week ago. This 1989 version solved my problems with TSR (traffic sign recognition) because it works with the navigation maps and I wasn't able to update it with 1985 version. Now it updates the map version from 24.10 to 25.8

The problem, now I have seen I can't adjust the mirrors. I have tried to change the controller to position 1 or 2 and I can't move any mirror. The mirrors close when I close the car and it moves when I apply the memory position of the seats but the pad doesn't work.

Coincidence??.

Hello, in which country were you experiencing the problem with road signs? I live in Türkiye and the problem has not been resolved yet.

I would hope its a co-incidence - what does adjusting the door mirrors have to do with the infotainment system in order for it to be affected by a firmware update?
Maybe the joystick is busted?

Hello, in which country were you experiencing the problem with road signs? I live in Türkiye and the problem has not been resolved yet.

I had this problem since I bought the car from Germany to Spain. I went to two official dealers and they told it was a problem with the communications module and I will have to spend 1000€ in the new module. They can't update it manually.

I saw in the navigation lot of missing roads and outdated info, only the main roads appears in the map view. When I started the car over a road that the nav includes, it works and the sign recognition works properly. The TSR works together the maps info and if you drive over a road that it's not in the map, it stops reading.

I was subscribed to Skoda connect but any OTA updates flashes in my car. One week ago this OTA solved the problem because it updates the nav too.

Now the co-incidence with the mirrors.... :(

Maybe, I don't adjust every day the mirrors but I'm pretty sure that it works previously.

Many problems arise, even though they shouldn't in every update. They fix lot of things but sometimes it breaks anothers XD

I will try with a factory reset.

Curious what's it is gonna bring.

Already satisfied with 1985 but i love gadgets and up to date materials.

One thing from the beginning with software 1969 til now mine park to pay or pay to park still not working.

But i am not using that anyway to prices of parking are ridiculous.

So i hope this one is even better then 1985 we will see.

Updated mine and had no end of problems with the infotainment crashing then rebooting , sometimes it’s ok unless you press the home button , but then after a short while goes back to crashing and basically driving with a blank screen. Currently sat in Skoda waiting to see what can be done . Tried the reset bit to no avail .

Was it the full factory default you did or just a forced reset with the power button? What year car is yours?

Is the age of the Infotainment unit a consideration when it comes to the issues people are having I wonder?
