Fabia vRS - any common problems?

Featured Replies

Wayne, you've got email ;)

A few extras others have reminded me of: I do have a few rattles, but nothing really annoying. Just haven't been bothered to sort it out yet.

The stick sometimes vibrates in neutral, but a gentle waggle sorts it out (no witty comments please :p ). Also, I often find going from second to first is really hard - just doesn't want to change. Dunno if that's a "potential fault" or if all VW six-speeders are like that  Please tell me chaps what you think of yours. In general, the box is superb (apart from the 2nd - 1st shift) and the 6th is just the bees knee's (spelling ?) for cruising on the autobahn. Just for your records, Wayne, I was getting around 50 mpg doing 80mph on cruise a couple of days ago. I just hope the onboard computer is a little more accurate than BMW's one! 6th gear can be a little slow to pick up on - nothing a little box of tricks or trip to Jabba can't sort out...

Xenons are great. They please me just as much as they annoy others ;)

Go for cruise. Even if you are not thinking of using it that much, it has proved a real biatch to retro-fit due to multiplexing wiring.

Seats are really comfy compared to other cars I've been in. No spillages yet on the fabric. Must do some simoniz teflon guard or whatever it is. Cheaper than the dealer scotchguard - not worth forking out for IMHO.

Oh, last gripe is my car - like most others - come with LHD-version floor mats. Something I need to sort out. It's been posted here, so read up and find the part numbers if your dealer doesn't know what you're talking about ;)

Can't remember - have you taken one out for a spin yet ? If not, don't forget Jan 3rd if you're free ;)

edited to correct our driveout next sat :D

My first to second shift is fine, not had any problem with it.

If the scotchguard the dealer tries to sell you is Toughseal which is also a paint treatment package they'll try and charge you

Think he meant 2nd ---> 1st

its suppost to be difficult, your not really suppost to use 1st once your rolling.. and its difficult to stop you doing it by accident... BOOM!

Tfboy: Youll find that all modern cars g.boxes are like that. :)

Bad hangover - still half asleep.

No problems to report here either. The build quality seems excellent and I've got no rattles, apart from the gearlever sometimes rattles in neutral. The gearchange is really easy and better than on my TDi.

You cant get mudflaps for the rear yet (although that might not bother you)

I had just the fronts fitted to help protect the paintwork.

There are also more options available than listed in all the brochures etc, so worth checking that out e.g heated seats etc.

I might do something to protect the seats, but they seem to be quite resistant to dirt, which has surprised me a bit.

I just need a visit to Jabba for a big :D

Do tell! (previous probs)

My previous fabia was a 1.4 16v elegance, which i had for two days before someone went into the side of me on the M2. The car needed a new front drivers door a rear alloy and a respray. When the car got back to the dealers they had to destroy the interior door trim because they could not get out and the repair job went back twice due to crap paintwork and dents still present. Some of the paint flaked away showing some surface rust in June and it went back yet again for respraying.

The second one happened in august, where i was driving down the road and a motor bike coming the other way lost control and headed towards me at 70mph. I managed to swerve out of the way before he hit me, but just as we passed he hit a wooden telephone pylon, then a parked vw beetle. The bike ended up against a wall the helmet had come off and ended up in a garden and the rider, who was wearing shorts and a polo shirt ended up demolishing a wall and lying in a heap. Debris from the first part hit the passenger side of the car and denting it.

I had to pay for the repair myself as the rider was not insured and the cost of cash in hand was the same as my excess. When the car came back that time, my dealer had it's only Fabia vRS on show as it was launch day and when i saw that the car would have to go back again due to dirt in the paint and a few blemishes, I thought enough was enough and brought the vRS the next day. This has been much luckier for me on the whole and i'm glad that i brought it when i did instead of when i planned to in april.

And thats just the short version!!!

 Eeek.

 Eeek.

Oh and the replacement door was bent at the top left corner and went back for adjustment (probably with a hammer), but like i said none of it was the cars fault and after following the link for your mini problems my problems are almost nothing.

The LHD Mat issue is an old one. New cars are being supplied with the correct ones as myself and others can attest to. I understand that mats on older vRS' are being replaced by dealers.

Hmm.

Maybe I'll have to nudge my dealer a little. I phoned him a week ago and he said he was aware of the problem, but the new cars he was still receiving had the wrong mats and didn't know any "solution".

Thanks to Mr Peck's post here, I'll wave the dealer a list of skoda part numbers :mischievo

Hi I'm new on here.

I had a test drive in the vRS when it first came out it's a really corker of a car. I've read this post with great interest as I'm thinking of changing my car (my one is also unreliable with the dealer backup that it c**p). Little trim problems I can live with coz that will happen I own a Peugeot so it's nothing new to me.

Any insurance companies you would recommend that are MOD's friendly? And with the "Jabba??" mods where do you stand on warranty? Any good dealers you would recommend in the London area? And lastly what options do you all recommond apart from cruise?

Cheers

Mike (MKD)

Options?

/braces myself for Xenon barrage ;)

Any remap isnt warranty friendly. But have a look about the site, there are ways around it with switchable mapping.

Welcome to Briskoda and you wont regret getting one I promise you.

I'm really tempted, only trouble is I wasn't planning on changing for another 18 months which would put my car at 36kish but after only being 9 month old and on average just over a trip a month in the garage (it's nearly had 2 months off the road!!) it just has to go...............cant reject it though :(

The 206 hasnt done alot for Peugeots reputation really has it.

Hear alot of people complaining about faults on them. I worked on one 307 before I left SEAT (was a used car) and it was a right pig, exhaust had rotted thru and it had only done 17k. Horrible to drive aswell.

Welcome to Briskoda.

I use Le Car Centre in Finchley, London. The sales guys are very helpful and friendly. I think I am one of the ones Ross is talking about with the Xenon barage! ;) I could recommend them totally having gone from a Furby without Xenons to the vRS with. Amazing the difference the lights make. :D

Ross - no it hasn't this is my 3rd peugeot and all the rest have been fine cars (106 & 306) but this 206 it really pants!!! It bugs me either more that even after buying 3 cars off them they still have treated my like well to be frank ****

fab16v - xenons will be on the list lol I'll try and check them out this weekend

Hi mate and welcome.

I too have a fabia vrs with xenons, and wouldn't go back to a car without them if I can avoid it ;)

If you're thinking about having cruise control, get it fitted from factory. Although I *think* it can be retrofitted, it's a real pig, so better get it done when they put the car together in the first place

Other option I have (although didn't want it) is disable passenger airbag facility. I only have it 'cos that particular car had the bits I did want (black + xenons + cuise).

Regarding insurance, Liverpool Victoria is the most popular as they do no extra charge for all mods, including rechipping (as long as you don't change the cc size of the engine!). There is an insurance section on briskoda, which has this sticky about LV. ;)

I also have a black vRS with xenons - love it.

I have the dashboard rattle down where the passenger door meets the dash - simple to sort just havent got roubd to it. I also get the rattling gearstick in nuetral - but also find that waggling it to the side removes the problem.

However - I also have a problem with my tailgate. I had noticed a funny creaking noise when the car was wet after a wash (something I do alot!! esp with the black!!) or if it was raining. Sounded like body/suspension flex and I was really worried for a while - but turns out it is the pull cord to close the boot getting stuck between the boot and bumper - inside - is getting fixed soon as a fair amount of water is gathering in the boot lock and I keep getting dripped on when I open the boot as the water is sitting along the bottom plastic edge of the inside of the boot.

Other than that nothing - even been promised an octy vRS as a courtesy car!!

Get one - youknow you want to...

Cheers - Ross.

Mine's done 4500miles now, still nothing (touch wood) wrong at all. Cant wait to get it remapped ;) as I've got a bit used to the std power. However thismorning the traction control light was on more than off, I think, that's something to do with the Pilot's though they dont work well when there cold (as reported before). Besides that it's as much fun as my MR2 if not in the same way, the MR2 will always have my heart (rear wheel drive cars rule ;))

Get the Furby you wont be sorry (oh and my dealer sorted my mat issue out before I collected it as they noticed they were wrong!)

appreciate all the people who has posted with their problems with their fabby - altho this isnt my thread.

Just it gives good reference for people who is going to buy one and have a good indication what to expect.

Will post my fubby problems - touchwood none at all............

This is handy to know mate. Cheers for that. I get this too and always when it has rained quite heavily! I kind of guessed after a while that it may be where the springs sit in their seats. Never even thought it could be something like that! :new_silly

Now I know, I shall get that sorted asap.

Just got my first problem.

Rear washer has stopped working - not a major issue was a bit of a pain on the run out round Wales yesterday.

Lost the front end in the snow but that was a driver error as much I would like to blame the Pilots.

Rear washer has stopped working - not a major issue was a bit of a pain on the run out round Wales yesterday.

Had this problem with my old Fabia. Check under the bonnet on the passenger side bulkhead as the washer tube goes through the bulkhead. The 2 connecting tubes come apart. If unsure, get someone to squirt the washers while you poke your head under the bonnet. Just remember to look on the passenger side, just behind and to the right of the engine. You should see the water spraying out! Just need to push the 2 hoses back together again. :)

I just recollected that the Fabia vRS that I test drove, that the "L" position adjusted the right-mirror, and the "R" position adjusted the left-mirror!

Again, not the end of the world as both worked albeit back-to-front.

I've added it to the list on the top of this thread...

THat would have been a gremlin from the multiplex wiring, as the electric windows have been known to swap switches and after a bit of fiddling go back to normal.
