The Ultimate Road Trip 'Feeler' for 2008

Featured Replies

This years international trip has'nt even started yet but I have already got ideas for an Alpine road trip for 2008.

The idea is loosely based on the successful format currently offered by another forum for car enthusiasts but with more automotive exoctica than the humble Skoda!. Basically the trip will take in four countries France, Monaco, Italy & Switzerland. The route takes in some breathtaking scenery on some of the finest roads to be found anywhere in Europe and will be over approximately 8 days.

This will take a LOT of organising and of course will not be as cheap as this years Czech trip but if there is sufficient interest you will have plenty of time to start saving (rough idea on cost would be

Any chance of more detail on the route / itinerary? cheers

Maybe if I've passed all my prof. stage accountancy exams I might be able to afford it. :D But for now, that's a fair bit out of my league. (Still a long way away yet though ;))

Yeah Yeah Yeah :D

I've started saving LOL... :D:D

Not at this stage, but I would imagine that it would include the Alps, Verdon Gorge (the one that Clarkson raced a climber in an RS4 :)), Monte Carlo, Route Napoleon, Milau Bridge etc etc :D

Steve 100% interested when do you need a deposit and what are the dates:D

Sounds interesting. The cost may a sticking point.... Any idea when in 2008 it might be - spring/summer/autumn? (ie how long have we got to save?)

Ask me after I see how the September trip goes.

:tempted:

stelvio pass as seen in italian job? :D

deffo interested in this ,

Steve, would love to come on this, but might have to pass as it would cost me to much to upgrade the Fabia for something abit more suitable.

Good luck with the organising this, will chip in for you Headache pills.

As the rot is about to set in with the furby it should be fettled in time for this, might be in the market for a co driver (other half dependant) if you want keeping in mind Mike?

It seems like a travesty taking humble skodas on this roadtrip

And why not? We have just as much right to go on such a glorious route as more expensive exoctica.

This won't be one for me but......

IIRC correctly the Old St Gothard's Pass (excuse my spelling) is between Italy and I think Switzerland is open for about 1 month, August I think.

It is cobbled, and has 21 stacked hairpins. Went over it about 10 years ago with my Dad........

Defiantly worth a look if your interested.

Very interested in this :)

The price shouldn't be an issue and I'd definitely want to know about it when names are being taken.

Almost certain to do it if it happens :)

If I don't buy an octy 2, I could be interested in this ;) :P (that's said in all seriousness, seriously :) )

I'll keep an eye on this thread, certainly - but at the moment, potential cost is really the only barrier between me and 100% commitment :)

I'd be interested but unfortunately expect the cost would be a problem. Shame as it sounds like a good trip. :(

The San Gotthard pass is only open in August (i drove past most of it going to the San Gotthard tunnel not anywhere near as much fun) think it is tarmac now though as the cars that i saw on it where going fairly quickly

Me and SWMBO are interested but would need to know definate dates

If I only do one trip next year, this will be it. Although this is just a feeler, count me in for 100%.
