  1. Thanks, I had seen that one but I’ve decided to keep the Octy for at least another year. Various reasons really, mostly because it’s so hard to get another car with the spec mine has for decent money. Mine has loads of options on it and it’ll fit us for a wee while longer so may as well keep it until I can get away with something totally different. I thought about it but I can’t justify more than about £350 per month on a car, I just don’t want to pay more than that personally and mine is paid for now so I’ve decided to enjoy at least another year of not having a car payment every month instead.
  2. Nick you are indeed well traveled. Is lap dancing the reason the Eskimo needs to remove their Polar Bear skin coat? No wonder Santa Claus is always smiling in Lapland.

  4. @KeteCantekIndeed they have changed the Skoda Fixed Price & Maintenance. They changed that in January. As came up in a DSG thread today, they show that pricing as on cars from 3 years old / From first MOT. Spark Plugs are not of much interest to those with a TDI, the fuel filter interval might be.
  5. Here it is. 5 hour drive to bring it back from scotland and very happy with it
  6. Solved! The problem was in P21W bulb which was working! I removed all bulbs from left side, and replaced with new ones, than everything started working fine... after that I started putting back old bulbs, and when one P21W was returned 5w bulbs turned off... not sure why, but that caused the problem
  7. I remember in the pre internet days when you could point someone in the right direction and they would find their way.
  8. I think they have done away with major service at Skoda dealers . Now it's service with extended scope for bit less than the major service price but have some individual items that you need to tag on depending on age and mileage e.g spark plugs at 99quid
  9. £50 for 4 hours seems cheap, although 4 hours is a ridiculous length of time even if they wired out your programmer. Did you make too many cups of tea for them? I know my father makes none stop tea and biscuits runs for anyone working in and around the house and doesn't seem to realise that he gets charged for the time it takes them to drink it. A week long job probably has an extra 3 or 4 hours added to it just for the excess tea! I say 'excess' as a certain amount of tea is automatically built into the builders invisible rider for the contract

In addition to going for smaller wheels deeper tyres to improve ride, recent reviews of All-Weather Tyres indicate that they nearly all ride better and are quieter than summer tyres. Winter tyres are probably better still in these respects. It's also a pity that adaptable anti-roll bars have not yet started to appear in cars in the Karoq price range. I've read and do believe that anti-roll bars reduce roll but compromise the ride, as a wheel on one side of the car can't then move independantly of it's partner on the other side. Say when one wheel only hits a hollow, it must pull down the wheel on the other side too. Also the bar tends to act as an undamped spring, when twisted, leading to some extra bounce. If I were buying a Karoq now, I'd definitely go for one with DCC and if I couldn't get it with 17" wheels, I'd immediately fit a set of 16" wheels with AW Tyres and store or sell the original wheels / tyres. However I'm fairly pleased with the ride and noise levels of my 1+ year old 1.0 SE tech Karoq on 17" wheels with Bridgestone Turanza tyres, evern though those tyres do draw quite a bit of criticism in this forum. I did test Karoqs with 18" & 19" wheels last year, but the ride and noise didn't suit me, but it's possible that the tyres had been at overly high 'showroom' pressures. At least my current wheels & tyres will do for now, but when they wear out, I'll probably change to 16" wheels with All Weather tyres. See these 2 items from the Tyres section for more discussion on all weather tyres and links to recent reviews. All round good ones that I'm interested in, as they do well in reviews for ride and noise, seem to be the new Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons Gen3 and the Bridgestone Weather Control. The Goodyear has better snow performance, but the Bridgestone even better ride, but may wear more quickly. If you want an AW tyre that feels more like a summer tyre, the Michelin Cross Climate is the one to go for. I changed to these on 16" wheels on my Yeti, but was a bit disappointed with ride & noise, even if there was some improvement over the old Dunlop summers - a friend actually found the ride worsened on his BMW Mini when he tried them on 17" wheels. However, note that quite a few people here do like these tyres, even though I wouldn't now consider them.
  11. No i got that working again it just needed a regas.
  12. surprising our garden seems to be getting a new mood too we are having gales but a high wall protects them
  13. @varaderoguy Thanks, i see the T&C's now are still there. Makes little difference what Skoda UK might say. If someone has a under 3 year old car there are dealerships that will do the DSG oil change for £200. Actually there are some that will do over 3 year old ones and were saying it was £229 with a filter and are now saying £249. Money for old rope.
  14. @e-Roottootit certainly does - try scrolling to the bottom of the page showing the Fixed Priced Serving costs.
  15. Thanks currently working my way through Star Trek Discovery on Netflix as my reward for going on holiday to one of the safest places on Earth is now 2 weeks quarantine because we are deemed a health risk to the general public.
  16. this was a bit fiddly in my 2016 vrs. initially holding down the reset button only pinged up settings for the clock and the battery. i eventually worked out to reset oil and inspection i had to wait until the warnings popped up (ignition off), press in reset button (keep holding) and turn on ignition. this popped up the reset oil and service options that could be acknowledged by releasing and quickly pressing the reset button
  17. a rising tide with the rising sun on the way home from my run this morning.. flood defence barriers are up to close off the path accesses after the torrential rain yesterday
  18. Shocking eh!!! How did that pass quality check, or user acceptance testing?!?!? Sheesh
  19. To be honest, my Photoshop skills are very limited. I'm a software developer so I've had to pick up the basics along with they way. That image is about my limit
  20. Hello, Tomorow will be the day😃 for now is kodiaq waiting in showroom😍
  21. Yes, fuel average is now 50mpg. I always use proper VW spec low ash oil at changes, and did long motorway runs for work; that's maybe how I got away with it for so long! Now my wife runs this car, so shorter journeys.

Dynamic Chassis control (adjustable dampers that are electronically controlled), note it is the damping, not the actual springs so smooths the reaction to bumps, not absorbs it like deeper tyres can http://www.skodamanual.cz/QR/Karoq-DynamicChasisControl.php
  25. Thanks for explaining how to set the mirror for reversing. I’d downloaded the Owner’s Manual from Skoda UK and it talks about selecting ‘R’ rather than ‘L’ - presumably, the text has been translated but the left hand drive/right hand drive hasn’t. Silly me. That’ll teach me not to read instructions!
  26. Following Wino's description I found the needed data. Thanks Wino and Techle
  27. I see, so the issue is not needing the manuals, more alack of understanding on how the manuals work. Then Wino's description above helps with that.

DCC - Dynamic Chassis Control, ie. Adjustable suspension.. I assume that you HAVE to have the 19s? Can you not ask them to save themselves some money and put on 18s lol??
  29. £550 now? Was £490 when I was forced to do it in Oct 2017 due to leaking from waterpump. 1 year earlier than anticipated. The fixed price risen by 12% over 3 years. UK Rate of inflation was 2.29% in 2018, 1.74% in 2019, let's assume 2% in 2020. That only comes to £520. Main dealer and VAG rip off, as usual!
  30. It's #2. You should get a dialog box like this: https://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/tour/controller-channels-map.php I'd probably enter: - Single controller: 5F - No security code - Adaptions - CSV file Either PLA or CSV should be fine but I'm more familiar with CSV so I tend to choose that Bare in mind, you'll get end up with a CSV with ~2000-3000 lines in it so comparing might take a while. If you post them, I'll try and run them through some python I put together.
  31. The all European one 1520 has broken cover on Seat servers. A bit of a first given Seat always drag their heels. It was found by the German Skoda Community board. Not wrapped in a web page yet, direct link: https://seatmapdownloads.akamaized.net/EUAS/EU_AS_STD_1520.zip At the minute can't find the thread that MartiniB was posting the November 2020 standard mib2 releases on... sure there was one. Leave to add to that. Loads up fine on a Seat with normal Seat workaround for Mapcare. You won't get the 6P ID on Skoda, you will get your own when loaded. The manufacturer dates are in the sequence of the other releases so far for 1520 when you open it up. Not sure how long it had been hanging around for release but as long as the E directories we have seen so far. Give it a fuller test today on a run.

When we bought our Edition model in 2018 which runs on 19's I was also running a Golf R on 19" prets (non dcc) and the ride in the R was far harsher than the Karoq. I don't find the ride in the Karoq uncomfortable at all so give one a try see what you think, the only way to be sure really.
  33. Measure the distance between the centre of the wheel and the wheelarch on both sides. Each side should be within a few millimetres of each other. 10mm or more difference would be a giveaway of a possible broken spring on one side.
  34. I saw the job being done on an Audi TT with a problem, by Andrew from Volkswizard on his YouTube channel. Seems the instructions are very comprehensive from Haldexrepairs.co.uk
  35. Had a 20 plate iV as a courtesy car last week whilst my Mk 2 was in at dealers for couple of days and it displayed this grammatically challenged exit message more often than not (but strangely not every time). So I suspect this is standard on MY21 cars but does feel rather unfinished. Hopefully the next firmware release will be proof read by a native English speaker before being released into the wild rather than just relying on Google translate again!!
  36. Is there any problem, or just that code? Edit: the HVAC module is a circuit board right behind the temperature/vent direction dials and switches. Edit2: I'm reasonably sure that this module in my Polo reliably gives this fault code, but has no discernible misbehaviour.
  37. @bspman Just like all the Classic Fast Fords and others that i wanted when they were new and were many many times more than i could afford and were not automatics. Currently i have my eye on a Alfa Romeo Giulia that is an Auto, in red and the car i most covet. Only issue is i am £69,000 short to be able to buy it.
  38. Fishcann, You have put it into words. that is exactly what happens to me.

  41. The simplicity of electric cars is very appealing, reduction of city air pollution, none of that DSG complexity, differentials & transmission generally not needed, stop / start, engine management etc. redundant, so much less servicing. BUT...... My thoughts on electric cars as they are at the moment, negatives and pluses. ### It seems an electric car uses 50% more energy in the making, at the moment anyway. Surprised me. ### That extra energy is nullified in 2 years if charging electricity is from renewable resources. If not, there's no overall energy advantage over the lifetime of the car. ### Lithium extraction is not an environmentally friendly process, mainly affecting some South American countries. ### Battery cars remove much (but not all) vehicle air pollution from cities where most people live and work, but transfer the problem to areas where Lithium is extracted and made into batteries. ### In modern efficient cars, 50% of particulate pollution comes from brakes and tyres (some nasty plastic micro stuff in latter). Regenerative braking can save on conventional braking emissions, but tyre wear - what can be done about that - maybe only gentle acceleration, cornering and braking can reduce this - not a popular concept amongst car enthusiasts. ### Easier to do 4 wheel drive in electric cars and to adjust the power to each wheel better as befits the situation. I recall reading many years ago that Audi reckoned 4wd saved a bit of friction loss at the wheels as well as all the other handling / traction advantages, but of course more than counteracted by losses if done mechanically. ### We are only extracting a fraction of the amount of Lithium that will be needed, if Lithium battery cars become widespread, where will it come from? ### But there maybe enough Lithium in Cornwall for all of Britain's needs. ### Also there's lots of Lithium dissolved in the sea (ditto uranium and other valuable materials) - extraction may possibly just become viable via a potentially sustainable.way of using sea water to irrigate desert areas, without putting salt backinto the sea. ### No-one seems to be trying to recycle Lithium at the moment. ### Life time, energy density and cost of making Lithium batteries improves steadily over time. Is the Tesla million mile battery imminent? ### Solar collecting surfaces on car roofs & bonnets might extend range maybe up to 50miles or ultimately up to 100 miles if they can approach that magic 50% efficiency, currently maybe 20%. Will have to keep them clean. ### Electric cars can be very efficient in use cycle, up to 80% maybe. Hydrogen efficiency at the moment in cars is around 25%. Petrol diesel cars we know are inefficient throughout the cycle and there's that pollution. ### How much do cars contribute to global warming & other environmental problems - keeping buildings warm & agriculture, particualarly meat eating, seem to be the biggest CO2 contributors. No doubt technological developments will alter and hopefully continue to improve the picture and maybe alternatives to Lithium will eventually emerge. But, being for or against isn't a straightforward stance, as for many things. However, it's superficially strange that current hybrid cars keep all that complex transmission. Why not just use the engine purely to help power the electric motor(s) and charge the battery. We know petrol engines can be made more efficient if operating in restricted rev range & limited to operating at maximum power. The only such - sort of - example I'm aware of is the original BMW electric car with the range extender engine, but I understand that's not done anymore. Likely, the reason is the inherent & ineviatable inertia of investment in traditional manufacting techniques.
  42. "PLUS, I'm helping save the planet !! " Do you really believe that? Electric vehicles are clean while being driven and no doubt bring benefits of cleaner air to City centres but what about the pollution caused during manufacture and especially producing the batteries not to mention disposal of the batteries when spent. Compared to a conventional petrol or diesel car I doubt very much that the overall saving by going electric amounts to very much if everything is considered, politicians are quick to claim the benefits but much slower to acknowledge the true figures. An old say 2000's car kept running for 20 years is I believe much greener if everything is considered when compared to modern cars that many folk change every 3 years. Provided they are kept out of city centres. If all cars were electric how would the National grid cope? With several Nuclear generating sites closing over the next few years electricity is going to be on a knife edge anyway without the huge demand a surge in electric vehicles would bring. Just my opinion.
  43. Welcome to the forum. Spark Plug change guidelines or if you want to call it a schedule is usually 4 years / 40,000 miles. Pollen / Cabin filters are @ 2 years or sooner, but you can look see, vacuum it maybe and keep using or change it. You can look at your air filter any time, or annually. The Guidelines used to be at 4 years / 40,000 miles for replacing. The cambelt discussion is on here in many threads, just look down this page or the last one.
  44. Just for perfect fine tuning. I already bought Bosch water pump 15l/min and New water cooler With tube fin core is ordered. Than when water temp sensor is installed we will test both pumps with both water cooler under heavy load.
  45. Went for test ride again. Outside was 13-15 and by full throttle I wasn't above 40C (35-40) ... I have impression system is working better and better even there should not be break in phase or similar. Still waiting for water temp sensor and to test weaker water pump. Made same arrangements for custom cat bact v-banded 3" exhaust. This is the tip I found very nice and suitsble for my sleeper look-similar to original metal series endtips of earlier RS4 and 6. Do you Like it?
