  1. After just under 6 years I am trading in my trusty Octavia Wagon vRS mk3 for a new (well, ex-demo) 2021 Superb Scout Wagon. I really enjoyed my Octavia overall and whilst I had a few technical niggles, it never once left me in the lurch and my dealer experience here in Auckland was very positive, so I am staying on board the Skoda train for another lap. My new car is the 2021 200kw spec (lost a few hp due to the ppf!) with 7 speed DSG & AWD and is well kitted in Brilliant Silver with Matrix LED, Columbus 9”, Canton, heated front, back and steering wheel, digital dash, park assist etc. Looking forward to collecting next week and saying farewell to the Octy!
  2. An interesting thread, of only peripheral interest to me until EVs have a range of 450 miles and can be recharged in 5 minutes even when I'm staying with friends or away on holiday in the country. For those who remember videotape recorders... EVs are like Betamax recorders, (and don't laugh but I had a V2000 recorder!) while I'm backing hydrogen cars to be like VHS recorders that came in late and then cornered the market. They also must be the only cars which get lighter as you fill the fuel tank Chris
  3. As I said in the post, the para you've chosen to crop out, mid-journey charging is still an issue. Double so when there's only 2 working chargers and they are both occupied (or one is broken and there's a queue, I've been there) But 99.5% of my uses in my EV, I charge at home or workplace and it's vastly quicker/easier/cheaper than going to petrol station. Other 0.5% is when I miscalculated and have to suffer the public infrastructure. For long journeys, I'd still use the diesel Octy for the same reason you've stated.
  4. No more than a car full of petrol and brake fluid. If there's an event that pierces the tank, then it will very quickly vent and be gone, as opposed to petrol/brake fluid that sit around and burn like nobodies business. At least it would be quick in the event it did go up vs being burnt alive in a petrol fire.
  5. Not sure, might be powering the electronics that manages charging? That's like a base-load that is constant and proportionally smaller at 7kW. For rapid charging, the loss would be heat loss. Bjorn EV youtube channel talks about this a lot. It's where a percentage of power is lost as heat from battery's internal resistance. I think I've read somewhere that the most efficient charge rate is 7-11kW. Minimum heat loss.
  6. Where do these losses actually occur? If they do occur at all that is.
  7. this morns sunrise from work
  8. Hello, Lots of helpful info here. Now have a Yeti having sold my Evoque!
  9. My wee red nugget in all it's unclean (at least externally, inside it is pristine) glory... got plenty things planned for it currently.
  10. Ticked over onto 100,000 miles on the way home from work - 20 years old and still going strong!
  11. With a 208 / Corsa with any drivetrain so not just the EV you can forget about an adult sitting behind a driver that needs the seat fully back and down unless they are a double lower limb amputee.
  12. Couple hundred bucks for registration and warrant is all. My one belonged to the “Brand Ambassador” as a demo car and has 6500km on the clock. I got it in this fully loaded spec for NZ$73k which is GB38k, so not sure how that compares? The new list price with the extras was NZ$83k The Scout has a *very* slight lift, some additional under-body protection and an “off road” mode in the drive select which is good for NZ roads. It also has the 7 speed wet-clutch DSG so I think is faster 0-60 than the equivalent year sportline which has the older 6 speed here.
  13. Last pic of mine for this summer...
  14. Problem solved.. 🙄 He's been left some money by M in L when she passed recently and currently he cycles 7mile each way to work, leaves at 11pm and finishes 8am ish and his route is brutal, up and down hence cooked brakes. Currently Carrera Hybrid thingy and rides in work gear, rucksack and Rigger boots so ebike decided on. Ordered 6pm yesterday, due for delivery tomorrow pre 9am apparently, we'll see 🤔 Haibike Hardseven 4, pics when I get back from Ipswich Friday evening
  15. @lol-lol lots of facts and figures and spread sheets that show how cars are when occupied by just a driver in nearly every case. Relevant to drivers that do drive big or small EV,s on their own with not much in them. Putting 300 kg ballast in each time would be really useful to many wanting a family car to use carrying people and stuff.
  16. Lots of Reps or 'Commercial Travellers' (Travellers) as we called them back in te 70s / 80's when they went about in mostly Fords or Vauxhalls now drive EV's and do 'Admin' work while charging. Making calls / orders / arrangements / appointments / site visit arrangements etc. They can be busy busy busy and might well just sit charging Free as many do in Scotland on not very quick chargers. £15-£20 not actually spent. Now that there are more 'Quicker' more powerful chargers some only have time to grab some food, have a toilet break and then get a move on. £20-£30 spent. It was the Free to use Charge Place Scotland chargers that stopped people putting in Commercial Chargers. Charge Place Scotland and unreliable chargers and pathetic maintenance has more and more EV drivers totally peed off with them and getting on with life and just Splashing the cash and paying to fuel their 'Work Tool' / Transportation.
  17. That's a valid argument while charging at home, at work or whilst shopping - but is not valid when charging in the middle of a journey at e.g. a motorway service area or a roadside garage/charging station - where there is nothing you can do to "get on with your life" except wait for the charging to complete (or at least get far enough to complete the journey).
  18. I'm liking the look of that. I don't think it's available in the UK (mores the pitty).
  19. Surely it's not an unreasonable expectation to expect that a new car can be "refuelled" in the same time that the car it replaced? Going from a few minutes to a few hours is not going to be seen as a positive step by many people, especially those with small children to keep entertained whilst waiting, or those who just regard a car as a box that gets them from A to B.
  20. I do not think there is a loss just the car needing to use energy as the battery is charging to control stuff and there is the difference of a driver sitting in a car as I am now with stuff like chrome book and phone plugged in heater on etc compared to charging and locking the car. I am charging again this morning having only done 5 miles again since yesterday but a 6% drop in charge. When I get home I am going to charge to 100% and leave the car parked for 24 hours to see the drop in battery percentage. Then I might try 48 hours and if the battery drop is going to be as much as it is the car will be getting left at Arnold Clarks for a few days. Unlikely any software updates will make any difference. Unlikely they can do them anyway regardless of how long they have the car. EDIT. The the 6% indicated less energy in the car. It only takes slightly less than 5kWh to charge back up. So a 50 kWh battery if it is actually that means a 10% used for 5 miles / 24 hours.

Oh yes and - after chatting with one of the previous NZ owners I learned a couple of bits of history I didn't know. I knew the car had had a rear-end accident at some point, the boot lid isn't original, but I learned it was hit hard from the back when parked in Wellington, shortly after the red leather interior was done. An Auckland bodyshop reckoned the roof wasn't original, and my body guy said the same. I'm not sure if this is right because the way it's fitted and welded looks like pics of other cars I've seen, but I'm no expert! My bodyshop guy said the front was about 4mm shorter on one side than the other so it may also have had a frontal at some point. though everything fits and lines up, as well as any of these 80s cars do So yeah this car has had a life!! Oh and I got a new insurance valuation last week - the car is finally worth more than I've put into it!!
  22. 3% at worst, in this case that's 52mpg instead of 54mpg. OP, If you're basing this entire thread on the MFA reading then it's a waste of time, you need to brim the tank and calculate average mpg that way, the MFA isn't accurate.
  23. Hello Briskodians, I would like to offer a repair service for some types of electric window motor module as fitted to a few Skoda models, as well as one or two VWs. At this stage it applies only to two specific, exact part numbers fitted to the driver's side front door, as follows: 6Y2959802 Fitted to later Mk1 Fabia, from around October 2004. 6Y1959801 Fitted to Very early Mk2 Fabia and Roomster until end of October 2007; as well as 9N3 Polo and a few Transporters. (And some late 9N Polos I have learned). Private Message me a VIN if you'd like me to check whether your car has this part number fitted. (As described a few posts below, either of the above part numbers + suffix A on the end can also be repaired. Also happy to try with units of the subsequent generation, with part numbers 6Q1959801F, G, H, or J.) Note that both of these are driver's side units, the difference in part numbering is due to the orientation/positioning of the motor module on the panels they mount to. These parts suffer a type of intermittent, progressive failure where they 'sometimes work fine, sometimes don't work at all'. Eventually they just completely stop working. This is what I can fix for you. I will test your faulty unit, confirm the problem, repair it to full working order and post it back to you for £59, total. You'd post it to me - less than 1Kg so can be sent for around £4.25 on a tracked24 service purchased online at Royal Mail. I would aim to turn it round within 2 days of receipt, and send it back tracked24. This is the what the part looks like: Central locking via remote will still work in the absence of the window module, so you will be able to secure the car as normal while it is away. Obviously you'll want to ensure that both front windows are fully shut, as in the absence of the driver's side module the passenger side one will not operate. New units are no longer available from Skoda/VW, and ebay 2nd hand ones with these part numbers tend to go for big bucks. I will charge you just £59 including return postage. Cheers, Pete Edit 30/08/25: To get in touch, please click on my username which will take you to my profile, with contact info.
  24. looks good ... ive gone from a lifted Subaru outback in western australia to a scout as its the closest thing i could get to an outback
  25. I think that looks fantastic, if available in the UK, I would be in line to purchase one! I don’t really understand why it has not been offered over here?
  26. I have this option on mine. You should get a notification sweeping in from the left saying travel assist is activated. You need ACC set to on, but not necessarily active. The two lights on the lower right for lane assist and ACC become a single icon.
  27. Future classic Gaz 👍
  28. I've no idea what you mean by that Ken.
  29. Hello and welcome Boltby I've still got a hankering for a Yeti. Gaz
  30. I must admit I didn't actually take the connector off as I didn't want to upset the computers and them get annoyed, "All hail the computers". And I think I should have put - You only need that grey bit that far out - but then you squeeze and hold it down whilst pulling the whole connector back.
  31. Possibly, I could put money on mine being the originals. Everything on this car is original besides serviceable items and things I've replaced AFAIK. I was on original brake discs until they were changed at 53k!
  32. The red one looks like it's riding a bit high tbh maybe it's had new shocks recently 🤔
  33. I reckon the door sill and it’s creating a puddle on the bottom of the door and trickling down. So, get a bucket or hose. Sit in the car and get someone to poor water until you see it coming in.
  34. '130 miles on a trip read out.' Bl00dy amazing if you are on your own. What we really need to know is how far you get with driver & a Rugby Sevens side in it with their kit.
  35. not been since 2018 , we did the NC500 though, which was fun, we also did a europe trip including all the Alps roads 203,000 miles now.... its kinda retired, the family car is the fabia 2 vRS we bought this year to replace our rusty as fook audi.... planning on going back to the ring next year if we can! recent pics of the cars
  36. Didnt think there was any diff in the foam inserts between the 2WD and the 4WD in the Yeti. anyhow, I have a new'ish (used for 3 months) set of inserts available if your interested, sure we could come to some arrangement.
  37. Yep, me too. Such a pity we can't have one of these in the UK. Looking at the NZ website the Sportline comes fully loaded for about the same price as a L&K version for us here in the UK. Are there any monies to be paid on top of the NZ Skoda price, extra taxes etc?
  38. Re Stranraer and PortPatrick and every place else with reported faults. It would help if people getting a charge would report in and let people know when they did last work if they do. 25 pence kWh Stranraer minimum £1 50. Which is fine if you can get a charge. Thankfully there is a Filling Station with a Commercial charger where paying 30 pence a kWh means you will not be in trouble as can happen with Charge Place Scotland who have had £45 million plus to provide an unreliable service.
  39. 3-pin is 10 amps, so using 0.45 kW to run electrics is not unusual. Sure it can be more optimised, but 0.3-0.5 kW is the usual power draw I see shown as "other" when driving normally. In Leaf there's 3 figures showing traction power, then there's climate power and finally "other". You stand next to the vehicle for those few minutes, holding the nozzle. I don't think anyone would stand next to their EV while it is slow charging, everyone would spend seconds to plug in and then go get on with their lives. So from minutes to seconds is a hugely positive step in my book. Mid-journey recharging is an issue, but that is due to lack of infrastructure rather than the technology inside today's cars.
  40. The charging time is a potential issue which also holds me back from going to a 'leccy motor (pushing affordability and other factors to one side for just a moment). I've got a Spaniel and a 10 y/o brother, and they're as hyper as each other. Going on holiday to Portpatrick, to give an example - in a scenario where the car would need charged - is a problem as the dog gets restless, as does my wee brother as they're both pretty impatient and don't travel too good. Certainly, I could leave them at home and go on holiday myself, but I'd rather they weren't in the huff.
  41. Thursday the 11th November ber 7pm onwards but, some do rock up early. All Skoda & Non-Skoda drivers welcome, partners & children welcome although, being a Car Club it may not be very interesting for them. I'll keep tagging previous attendees to ensure everyone is as well informed as can be although, please pm me to be removed from the list should it become a PITA https://www.thewestmeonpub.co.uk/ https://www.google.c...82abeebd26a1535 @timyates1989, @Xavier, @Newport91, @JerryT, @shanemeh, @andy68, @64033, @Leeboy, @dsj20v, @skodanorman, @jonbmx900, @mattsv, @JoseDB, @jcarr162000, @ZubSub, @K155BMR, @zouche, @Chris6663, @Toxicvrs, @LiamONeill, @mycoolbeard, @J45ON, @gary80, @Famous_Afro_Jay, @Bowders1, @TeflonTom, @peterhaskew, @carrera85, @146matty, @JackClap, @vrsjub, @pierst1, @fex, @solite, @jjc, @fatwomble, @kennyd32, @High4, @Mike18Clark, @Gambo, @Evans octy no:67/100, @Dave And Lolli, @Horsee, @andras.orban, @octyjosh, @lemonvrs, @Leee, @Carl Monte, @PompeyKev, @pikachu24, @V8 Dave, @Lee01, @Hyphons, @stuartvrs, @Yoss, @tamiyaandy, @hardcorehobbit, @andsoutham, @Tomote, @mk4gtiturbo, @Mustafa, @austenw90, @sigarland1987, @BJB540, @Thorpe76, @VladSoilerOfCarpets, @bullawayo, @Octy 4x4t, @Lingnoi, @Lkim13, @AndrewE, @bspman, @Chelseacraig, @jars, @flashman, @Cydermonkey, @AJ7788, @gjgrst, @JGrindel, @MissPiggy, @Hedge, @jronnquist, @CHRIS ELLIS, @Updown789, @stubunce, @@lexc, @mase101, @Chris245, @Robsskoda, @Max M4X WW,
  42. Just been informed my car is on the way to Emden, movement at last!
  43. You have a MAP sensor rather than a MAF, but I doubt it's that. Is the car the 6-valve 54bhp variant or 12-valve 64bhp? Does it seem to run any differently, perhaps at idle? It's always an idea to inspect the brake servo vacuum hose for splitting on VW-group cars, they can sometimes leak air and badly affect engine running. Here's a typical failed/failing one:
  44. The colder weather will have an impact; warm up times, electrical systems, as will any changes to the fuel mixtures (Winter Fuels/E10 Swith Over). There is a big thread on E10 fuel economy on here, and plenty more information in the news. On the presumption your driving style is the same, there is no additional weight in the car.. check the basic things like tyre pressures, servicing is up to date etc.
  45. I had it done myself, after watching some youtube videos... I had the dashcam hardwired to the fuse of the rear wiper, via a fuse piggy back kit I got from Halfords (https://www.halfords.com/technology/dash-cam-accessories/nextbase-dash-cam-hardwire-kit-159302.html). It's dead simply to do - the trickiest thing was to take the glove box and the a-pillar trim apart... In the case of vRS MK4, though, there's a usb-c port in the rear view mounting, so all you need is to by a relatively short cable (for my 512 it is mini usb to usb-c, 0.9 m, which I tucked nicely behind the mirror, so you can't see it at all) and you're done. There would be a bit more work required to mount the rear camera, but you just need to hide the wire in the roof lining, I think.

    Got ours on Friday:)
  47. Hi Tim1631 - many thanks for your very supportive comment. I should point out that the £22000 is the price before the discounts I mentioned. Also I am not interested in a Karoq. I am comparing the Polo I have ordered to the Fabia I wanted to order which is well over £23000 with no support from Skoda yet on PCP. Are you suggesting that anyone looking at a small hatchback should really just go for a Karoq because you happened to get a good deal?
  48. Was great to get out and about before the sunset this evening
  49. Crazy weather this morning, alternating between bright blue skies and torrential rain............
