  1. GTE arrived on Thursday, can’t wait to get stuck in with the mods on this!
  2. 2006 Elegance TDi estate. Just noticed this for the first time yesterday when running a phone mic. Top of the pocket on the lower dash to right of steering wheel. thanks!
  3. You lock it when you get out of the car
  4. It can also allow heat into the cubby to keep your pasty warm
  5. The cartridge mouldings are clearly different so on the face of it I'd return them as incorrect. Whilst you could potentially look to trim off the additional locator key from the moulding you may face two issues; 1) the cartridge case may be thin and the offending moulding not solid, so if you trim it off you may puncture the cartridge, and 2) the supplier will likely refuse a return if the cartridges have been altered.
  6. And I was being extra carefull this time after the roasting from Ken O Neill for not seeing that someone was in the Ireland, I double checked the vehicle that the OP had, a 2006 Elegance Estate without seeing what section it was posted under 😳 Once again you have corrected me either for an assumption that the Fabia is the same as the Octavia or mistaking the vehicle, I thank you for your patience, understanding and politeness, others could learn from it.
  7. Ah right. Wow, that indeed also explains the knob in the glove box I forgot about. Thanks People are always urging me to get “something better” or “something newer”. More ammunition to say I’ve got two cool boxes 😆

That's better then cheers bud will try the other 02 sensor tomorrow first I'm expecting it to be a pia to get off especially with only being up on jack stands so limited room to give it some welly with the spanner lol.
  9. We don't talk about that.
  10. More than likely. Like switching from bolts to rivets on the door panels.
  11. Meanwhile back in 2021 , crime prevention advice remains the same. Anything inviting left on display is a target. Car systems are protected. Alloy wheels are locked) , but ANYTHING of value inside a car can /will be stolen for a fix. I've seen it in past.
  12. As posted above . Idea being that it's obvious( by being open ) that glove compartment contains nothing of value and is not locked.
  13. But how would the thieves know it was locked unless they'd already broken into the car? I don't understand where this 'advice' is coming from unless it's from the fecund imagination of a complete fantasist. The 'secret' document compartment is for the folder containing all the manufacturers manuals and other books which is what's hidden in mine.
  14. Crime prevention advice is not to lock it . I've even heard of some crime prevention folks saying it's even better to remove content of glove box and leave it open overnight. But along with the secret knobs etc, a lot of T leafs don't know about the "hidden" tray inside the glove compartment. Difficult to spot if you don't know it's there but handy for storing documents erc.
  15. If you find that the lid opens too easily, there are two metal spring clips at the top that are just pushed on. They can fall off as once happened to one of mine which makes the lid far too easy to open. Make sure you have two of them present. I took a pic of the clips...
  16. Well that was a fun journey. 2000 miles, 2 planes, 1 car and 4 buses later. I finally picked up my SLA headlight units in a suitcase. why? Because it’s cheaper since brexit to go pick it up myself including travel, hotel, covid test and a good **** up In Brno on my stop off. Than it would be to pay the import taxes
  17. In which case, I've definitely not got that as mine can be opened by looking at it funny regardless of whether the key is in or not.
  18. he ordered them, but.... its not what was delivered...
  19. Which can be disable with VCDS if not wanted. How many keys do you have, may be worth getting a blade cut to photo on Ebay if you are nervous of self locking. Can be kept in wallet and used to unlock if keys locked into car away from home, but will not start car as immobiliser chip would be un-coded. Also, try locking/unlocking car with key in door to ensure the lock is not seized as its too late if battery in fob fails or remote becomes un-synced (not unheard of) - immobiliser would not be affected so car would still start. You will find the oil turns black in a short period of time being a diesel, but no harm in doing a change. Also look at pollen filter, when really dirty they can block airflow in heater ducting which can in turn burn out the resistor for the heater motor speed control.
  20. Get it bought. Even after being babied every month it's not that happy. You've probably had an extra year out of it already. I'd use Tayna for a Bosch/Varta/Yuasa at 110 sovs unless you can get the Halfords significantly cheaper. Batteries tend not to die on long trips (they like being charged) but not fretting is worth something too.
  21. I picked up on it as well when going through the user's manual/handbook provided with my car and was expecting it to have some form of locking. I've found the manual to be about as clear as mud when it comes to trying to figure out things on the car such as the wiper stalk, which I managed to learn by effing about with it and seeing what would happen.
  22. I've never understood why they call it a "lockable" storage compartment when there's nothing to lock it, per se. When I think of a lockable cubby, I think of something you can secure with a key.
  23. YouTube reaction videos to my top spec fabia 1 coming soon (can’t promise scantily clad young ladies though)
  24. Most people look at the registration plate rather than the year of registration - since it will be a 71 plate until 28th February I don't think it's worth waiting (unless you want to wait until 1st March 2022 for a 22 plate!).

Colin, I was in a similar boat to you. I don't need to move on my superb, I can afford to keep it, but I do 15,000 miles a year and in a superb 280, that's over £300 every 4 weeks at current prices. Saving £3900 a year just in petrol is a no brainer, especially as I rarely get to drive the superb like it should be. Yes my electricity will go up and the payments for the car are more, but I'm still saving when those are taken into account.
  26. Taken at Whitehaven.
  27. How much of a pig of a job is it to remove the EGR to inspect / clean ? I am good mechanically, just lazy as hate working on cars on the driveway Some videos suggest driveshaft removal for access Sounds a PITA
  28. Got around to putting on the bits I mentioned last post, a pair of led spotlamps. I'm really not a fan of leds but for my purposes I couldn't really go with normal spots. Instead of putting them out on the bumper I wanted to mount them halfways hidden behind the grille so I knew I had to get something small. They were a bit of a pain to mount, had to drill the crash bar out which took ages to do even with new bits, and then discovered they would sit too low so I had to get much longer bolts and then fashion up a spacer to lift them up enough to be seen. I Tinted them yellow, made no difference except turn the light green, they are pure white normally so I didnt expect them to go green. Pic is of just the spotlights on, even behind the grill they put out a decent amount of light. And heres what they loom like behind the grille, should be noted that the grille isnt properly clipped on in that photo. I'll get a better photo tomorrow. Wiring them was pretty easy, had to use connectors to join it all together as I don't have a soldering iron. They're wired so that they only come on with the highbeams. So far they seem to be doing well. Definately can see a lot further out than what I normally would have. Another reason I put them on is that I think they'll make it more obvious whether or not my highbeams are on to oncoming drivers.
  29. Fabia alloys- last person stealing them was sent to looney bin. Stereo in back street. Would you want to tangle with a 8kg JRT cross who is frightened of strangers.
  30. Cheers Lee, I'll have a play about with it when there's daylight.
  31. Pretty sure he means the big main glovebox. I don't think any of them had lockable small cubby boxes.
  32. Definitely beats walking 👍 Yeah, Corrida red is nice
  33. Yes, it's the same with ETKA, some of the translation for things is way off and you have to figure it out yourself
  34. ^ Haha, very true, Ryan. I didn't notice that myself. Must be something lost in translation
  35. If it locks itself even with the drivers' door open it's a sign of a failed/failing microswitch on the drivers' door lock unit inside the door. It's a very common fault on VAG cars of this era.
  36. Bad wording on my part - the sensor is separate but the ring that is sensed is integral with the bearing.
  37. 55-3 page 1 though it's not a great help. Bodywork.pdf

Great news. What spec did you order. As I ordered my VRS 245 Estate - Race Blue, Canton, Reverse Camera, Winter Pack and Spare Wheel on the 17th July.
  39. Thank you for your time and help tunedude. The manual you linked me to has an extra 59 pages compared to mine I wonder what else I can learn about 😄 Only had the 5 years!
  40. Actually ime wrong come to think of it ,its actually labled ultimate unleaded, more marketing bs .
  41. Bp 97 ron ,but the vrs seems to like the e10 ,or at least mine does .
  42. Well I finally got Hive installed on Friday - we’re getting fitted wardrobes installed and the fitters had asked for the programmer to be moved. I mentioned to the plumbers that I was thinking of getting smart heating fitted and they said that they could fit a Hive system (compatible with Apple HomeKit) for just the cost of the kit, as the labour cost was the same as moving our existing programmer. so far really pleased with it - after an initial call to Hive support as I couldn’t get the app to see the thermostat, even though it was working perfectly on as a normal non-app-controlled programmer, Hive dialled into it, ran through a few reset procedures with me and it was up and running with HomeKit! The programmer’s been installed where the old thermostat was, and as per @Lady Elanore’s setup, the hub and receiver are installed by the router. The cupboard’s a bit of a mess, as I still need to tidy up from where the power and data was run to the garage…I must have known more work was going to be done, hence not getting on to that sooner…at least that’s what I’m telling myself! I like it so far, and it’s nice to be able to set different temperatures throughout the day…it’s certainly a lot easier to program via the phone than the tiny screen on the old programmer! Thanks to all of you that gave advice on this topic 👍
  43. Ah, well, nothing lost always worth trying the free and easy. Sorry I know nothing of alarms as new as 10 years. You might need a proper scan tool to see if there are faults (or adjust sensor(s) sensitivity?).
  44. Yes you need to use vcds to bleed it You can buy china copies for about £25
  45. Fit one of these & forget about the EGR. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/183869556154?hash=item2acf7ac5ba:g:OaAAAOSw-DRdHK14 The EGR isn't fit for purpose IMHO.
