  1. I bet the overhang didn't exceed the width of the doormirrors. On the one hand they want motorists to give them a wide berth, 1.5m or so, very reasonable if its safe to do so, but on the other hand they want to squeeze past on either side in traffic. If I position my vehicle central in its lane on the Paris périphérique as soon as the traffic slows down I get abuse from motorcyclists who want to drive through without slowing down, move to the left and the next one will want to pass on that side.

Real world fuel economy and emissions with the Lada are no worse than Suzuki really had with the Jimny 1999-2016. (Autos were really not fuel efficient. Then Suzuki put out the new 1.5 Suzuki Jimny that really is a joke emissions wise and the Auto version really is a scandal as far a Co2 g/km for a vehicle as small as it is. A proper 4x4 for hard use / offroad work that might be used to do less annual miles / running time but has poorer emission figures is a necessity for many. The amount of big over fat/ heavy fully loaded with options New Defenders going about on roads that will never be offroad or tow now is a bit of a joke.
  4. Depends what do you listen. As we owned in parallel 2 x O3 with standard system, O3 RS with Canton and now O4 with standard system, Canton is definitely much better, at least how it costs. O4 standard system on Style with Columbus is better then standard on both O3 we’ve owned. Spotify on O4 really sounds great. Yeah, woofer on Canton for O3 is thin, but it is complementary to the complete sound picture, it makes a difference if you change its volume separately while listening to any sound which has those frequencies. Not all sound material is utilizing it enough. I like what that did with it, especially in this price range of the vehicle. It is not even close to audiophile criteria, simply this is way under that budget range, but it is decent and I enjoy it. Never regret of configuring it.
  5. You didn't. Why? But we are talking about security wheel bolts which are to prevent the wheel being stolen, but I've haven't heard of anyone getting their alloys stolen in years. hats why I plan to do away with mine and replace with normal bolts.
  6. It defies the laws of thermodynamics. I am fearful of charging my Zoe, particularly the last 10% or so, in fear of doing some chemical long term damage but if the vehicle is not as advertised then whacking it on the chargers and if it does shorten the battery life and one can force the maker to replace or repair the battery back then that is what should happen I suppose. Renault promise battery will be at least 80% after 4 years and still have 70% life at 8 years I understand. True battery is 55 kWh in the Zoe but the lower 52 kWh amount is accessible by the user in the normal ways. After Renault's moves on withdrawing safety equipment due to chip shortages, and looking at most the old car company share prices one wonders who and what is going to be around at the end of this decade ?
  7. The Skoda Dealership Service Manager showed me photos of what they found - the friction linings had disintegrated and he said that he was surprised they lasted 9k miles
  8. I have a soft spot for Vauxhalls since owning a Vectra VXR a while back. People questioned my sanity and made all the usual reliability jokes but it was a cracking car. I had two years of fun and other than having to fix a slightly temperamental cruise control stalk it was great. We went all over in that and it even took us to France twice with no issues. Keep us updated from time to time as it's good to hear about cars other than Skodas.
  9. Plus the guy (Sam) that owns it smashed the sump the day he got it, had already changed the wheels, then changed them again, and then tried selling it, and nothing's happened since.... haha.

So this afternoon we went for a test drive for an hour, really enjoyed it, think I drove about a mile and Lynz did about 30 on a mixture of roads. Very impressed.. so order placed. 60 Suite. Race Blue 20”Vega Wheels Drive Sport basic Climate Pack Plus Convenience Pack Plus Parking Pack Base Did think about the heat pump, but car will only do about 20 miles a day with the odd longer run, so didn’t think it nessasery. Been advised it might be 30 weeks, although, my dealer has had a few through in 12-14 weeks, so who knows. Anyway we are both happy and the wait begins, and got £800 more for our px than we paid for it over 2 years ago from the same dealer.
  11. Has anyone bought any accessories or made any modifications to their Enyaq? The sportline I have ordered comes with black lettering on the back but the badge on the front is silver, I have been looking to either get it wrapped or change it out. I have also ordered the rubber car mats, boot liner and a bumper protector. Also looking to swap out the horn to one that doesn't sound like its from a clown car, but I will wait to see how hard it is to access it when I finally receive the car! 🤞
  12. I have the Canton Audio in my Skoda Mk4 VRS and yea sound was very much to be desired out of the box. I got my previous Mk3 Octavia VRS Canton system sound tuned by a Audio installer and it sounded way better. I put the same settings into the new Octavia (most of the settings were the same between the two) and it made a big improvement. Obviously not going to stand up to a aftermarket professional setup but in Australia the Canton upgrade comes in one big pack (called Premium pack) and wanted the other options in there… plus it sounds better than without it so I’m happy.
  13. I can't remember if it gave me a message about designed for an older version when I 1st used it but it works no problem on mine at the moment.
  14. I am just using the app that was already pre installed in the head unit labelled as DAB+
  15. Yes; wet fallen leaves are about as slippery as ice.
  16. As the guys said buy a cheap generic code reader but based on ehat you said and if you can hear it blowing sounds like your issue is fuel consumption increased or lack of power or acceleration ???
  17. what is ok for vehicle traffic may annoy someone on a bicycle who has gone to the trouble of fixing a Go Pro to their helmet in case they decide to take offence, so they will have the evidence.
  18. Assume intelligent was in double quotes because it’s clearly not, but it does have a parameter set.
  19. Hi everyone, Returning to Skoda after some time away (sorry). Recently purchased a VRS iV and am rather pleased with it. 😊 I am normally in the garage quite frequently, but with this car I expect less bonus points on my card. I am still learning all the little nuances of the car, but she drives really well. Take care and safe everyone. 👍
  20. So Max and Lewis have a crash, Lewis legs it back for the Bottas car (Max remains seated in is his car throwing the steering wheel out and anything else he can pull off in the cockpit), goes on to win after restart but receives no points. He is then equal to max on wins and so shares the championship with him?? Just curious At least I feel happier about the starting grid for this final race. Lando already said he doesn't know if he wants to get wrapped up in the front two's race (sensible) and Lewis is much less likely to throw his car up the inside of Max in a desperate do or die manner - or, if the roles had been reversed, a win or win situation for Max.
  21. Thanks for all your updates on this thread..I cannot say that the switch was definitely faulty but thought it strange that both bulbs blew which with my very minor amount of technical knowledge lead me to suspect a faulty switch causing them to blow . I got a discount on the switch and thought it would be a cheap enough option to change the switch and bulbs in case the switch problem was intermittent as the EPC light and power loss happened a few months previously but seemed to clear itself. I bow to everyone's greater technical knowledge and the suggestion to re-fit the old switch, but if that switch is intermittently faulty it may well work and I suspect I may have already saved well over £100 by not going to a dealer to find and fix the fault so I'm quite happy not to mess with it again.

Yup. Something like thirty five or forty years IIRC
  27. At what point did poor drivers start blaming their vehicles because the wheels spin when they "floor it" from a standstill with a powerfull engine? I must have missed it. Saab probably realised early on that some drivers of automatic vehicles lack cerebral connection between their control inputs and the vehicle output and understanding to adapt to the conditions so the programmed the ECU to do the power modulation for them.

The solution above isn't about the battery (although a new battery is still just a store so can still be depleted new or not) it's about the over-complicated (VW) computer programs that are very invasive and intertwined confusing themselves, no different to the other fabulous computers that surround us all. Your car your decision, if it don't work what have you lost if it does happy days and no garage costs, and you might find other improvements if the computers have had their panties in a twist. My neighbour and I saved another neighbour £174 (plus VAT?) Merc diagnostics (plugging a scanner in) for "transmission faults" just by doing a throttle reset and him using his scanner to clear stored error codes, all done from the comfort of inside the car and we certainly didn't strain ourselves or get our hands dirty. The visit to the Merc Dealership "the only people who can recode the transmission new parts" was cancelled.
  29. oh its okay, the kerb tap was literally lighter than bumping ones head on a kitchen cupboard door. all the crash impact energy was already dissipated on the way across the road. mostly absorbed by my right forearm - i think it both stopped the bike and was my principle landing point. just the roughness of the kerb bevel split the skin. i was kepping an eye for signs of anything else during the day - headaches/dizziness/lethargy/pupil dilation/ loss of visual focus etc. i do be paranoid about the kids when they bonk their noggins and on the couple of occasions weve gone the gp for a confirmation of all ok, theyve been impressed by my level of monitoring but not in that "ohhh youve done that because you think your a doctor but your stupid" way they can sometimes, it was genuinely "welldone, youve kept an eye on a lot of stuff, if more people would do that and tell us life would be easier"
  30. Yes. There was one old lady lived near me who's driving technique was to rev the engine to ~4_000 rpm and let the clutch in slowly so that it took maybe 1/4 miles to accelerate from 0 to 20 mph. She'd then change into second and repeat. Her car was a 3 tone Renault 9; silver paint, red rust and blue smoke.
  31. I was stopped for having a load 2" wider than the car, I was in a traffic snarl up and a cyclist had called an officer over and pointed it out. It was an informal chat as I was almost home.
  32. To be fair this is an issue with probably any car that has rear windows that roll down and is not unique to the Octavia. This was a gripe with the previous model and should not have been carried forward to the Mark 3. Luckily it's not something that I often need to use. Sometimes they are too much of a bother, and on those occasions I prefer to do single wipes manually. Reversing camera: I have never had one before, and have been surprised at how useful it has been. An option that really ought to be standard, considering the low cost of cameras these days, which are included on pretty much every mobile phone for example. Annoyingly my reversing camera has failed to operate on a small number of occasions when I have really needed it, but has been reactivated on switching the ignition off and on again. Stop-Start: the usual gripes as reported on other threads - not unique to Octavia of course, and easy to activate or de-activate as required while driving. Satnav - most of the time works well enough for me, but sometimes the touch screen does not respond to my touch when setting out in cold weather. Regens: After being out driving for a few hours I sometimes arrive home to find a regen in progress when I switch off the engine. Seems to happen more often than I feel it should. On the plus side I have never had a DPF warning, although my pattern of use is not supposedly the best for a diesel engine. Very occasionally I get the spurious warning message "Leave vehicle only when selector lever is in position P". This issue is discussed at length on other threads. Seems it can be a major problem on some vehicles, but in my case it just flashes up briefly and goes away again. Lack of spare wheel: have managed to get by without one so far, but have now got to the point where my can of gunk is time expired, and am thinking it might make sense to get a spare wheel rather than replacing the can. Occasional false alarms from the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, but an advance on previous cars that didn't have TPMS. Some posters have mentioned diesel engine noise. I find my current car much quieter than the previous one, a 2007 2.0 TDI 140. Recently I had a petrol Karoq loan car. The engine was so quiet I couldn't hear it at all when it was just ticking over. To me the noise level of my diesel car is perfectly acceptable. I consider all the issues above to be occasional minor irritations, and on the whole I very much like my Octavia Scout 184 DSG. It is very well equipped with top of the range standard equipment plus optional reversing camera and winter pack. I have owned this car for 6 years now and have no plans to replace it any time soon. So far I would say it is the best car I have ever owned. I had the previous Octavia from new in 2007 as my company car and bought it from the company when I retired. That car was the most reliable that I had owned until then, and the current car has been equally reliable. The Scout has received criticism for costing a lot more than the base Octavia. I was fortunate in picking up a nearly new ex demo car at a massive discount. It was just 3 months old and had less than 2,000 miles on the clock. I really like the moon white metallic paintwork which was not a colour I would have chosen myself. It contrasts well with the black plastic body mouldings. I would not have opted for the reversing camera, but am very glad to have it. Also I like the original styling better than the facelift. I like the big boot which is more than ample for our German Shepherd. I like the brisk acceleration of the 184 PS engine which is significantly faster than the 140 PS of the previous car. I like being able to easily switch between the current driving mode and Sport simply by pulling back on the gear selector lever. This makes Eco mode much easier to live with.
  33. Battery is 1 year old and I drive car regularly for 20-30min. at highway speeds to recharge it, so this was not a problem, hovewer your comment inspired me to do "hard reset". I disconnected both battery terminals. For safety measure I measured voltage on disconnected clamps, it was around 300mV. I waited several minutes for voltage to drop under 100mV and then I shorted clamps together with multimeter set to mA range (it has considerable internal resistance and is fused so it was not hard short circuit). I waited for a while to discharge capacitors in car modules to be sure that everything will reset. Then I reconnected battery and everything went back to normal! Only time, trip and fuel consumption were deleted, everything else is just fine. Alarm works just like before. This metod of "hard reset" was described by HumbleMechanic on YouTube. I did similar thing but with extra safety measures: I hope issue will not come back and someone will find this topic usefull in the future.
  34. I think as mentioned, alternator could well be iffy but also, when changing the battery, did you get it re-coded? I believe some cars have to have this done, in order to function properly. I have removed/replaced my own one a few times and have never had to re-code it BUT when I connect to diagnostics, it does have something that relates to the battery, which though not making a difference, still could do with deleting. Also, Murdockman suggested checking earths, so don't just twitch them, give them a proper check with a spanner, to be sure. I have seen cars AND motorcycles fail to start, which looked like the battery was connected ok but on re-tightening terminals, fired up immediately. I would suggest loosening, cleaning and re-tightening any duff-looking terminal.
  35. I did one or two semi marathons a year, never ran any further, I trained properly for my first marathon (Lille) for my 60th birthday but had injuries while training which I forced through, they came back with a vengeance on the marathon and I had to join the van with the other cripples. I never tried again and have barely run at all since the confinement, when I do it will be starting from scratch again with a 10kg handicap. The watch is still very usefull for monitoring my heart rate, intensity minutes, sleep etc.
  36. Pre-heating means running the heater/aircon whilst plugged into the mains electricity supply. You can do this from the app, or from the Infotainment screen, and you can set schedules to heat/cool the car to a set temperature for a set time - ie if you leave the house every day at 8am to drive to work, you can have it pre-heat the car to 20C so that you can just unplug and set off. Very handy in the depths of winter as it'll melt all the snow and ice from the windows too. Most EVs have this functionality, you don't need a heat pump for it. You don't have to be plugged into the mains either, but obviously it'll use a bit of battery power -though not a lot. It's sometimes worth doing so you can get into a nice warm (or cool) car. It runs for longer when on mains power than when on battery, (30mins vs 10mins I think)
  37. Mine got rejected straight away at 2 dealerships as it's got coilovers on. If you can get on it, it's a bargain. Don't forget it's tied to you and not the car so if you sell, it's still up to you to pay/cancel.
  38. Refurbished head liner collected from Kohl Customs Can’t wait to get it back in the car.
  39. Yes, or a MIL light at the very least, the MAF sensor would be showing a greater flow than it should when the EGR was commanded if the EGR was disconnected or jammed. The long term solution which will prevent any future clagging or EGR failure is to fit an EGR emulator/simulator.
  40. There was a couple of members that posted someplace they had the inspection done and the plan started. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/495168-skoda-all-in-one-package http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/494242-all-in-from-skoda-2-year-service-package
  41. As above you really need to check the resting voltage when all systems have shut down. 12.2 v does not indicate a duff battery, bearing in mind the smart alternator/ micro hybrid charging system only charges the battery to around 80% to allow capacity for the alternator space to dump charge on the overrun.
  42. Worf (haha) sized bumps or not, it can take surprisingly little impact for some concussion effects. Based on years of watching my son in his chosen physically interactive sport, self-assessment is not recommended. My go to site for new peer reviewed health advice has just published timely comments on concussion recovery: Concussion and exercise - Health Report - ABC Radio National
  43. Thats a stunning car amanda ,even if thats not yours ,i imagine yours will look just as good ,am well jellous ,but having just had another speed awareness course yesterday best i dont order one haha
  44. It still needs to be based on the same platform. So the newest you could fit woul still have to be from a MK2 Octavia. Nothing from the the MK3 will fit.
  45. I got this one for jacking up the car to put the winter wheels on. Nice notification but received it almost 6h later 😂
  46. It wont be of any use to you, its a canbus node, the switch does not conduct voltage to the motor in the manner that you are expecting, it pulls up or down a signal current from the body or comfort control module, this sends a coded signal via canbus to the node in the rear wiper motor which controls the motor. You have 2 large wires for 12V and earth, then a twisted pair for the canbus network. If you strip the motor you can hotwire it via the large contacts, you can also measure the continuity of the self park switch. Its usually siezed up through water ingress, I got mine working but it failed again after a few months, a replacement is quite cheap and is plug n play, requires no coding.
  47. Yes, click on the link. It's an Android 10.and above thing which will auto remove permissions to camera, GPS etc if the phone feels that the app does not use them. It's a security thing. Let me know if you get past my total though!!!! ROFL.
  48. My new 2017 Superb 206TSI 4x4 fully optioned. previous owner installed Revo stage1. Done some work with the lighting and a debadge. Applied Gyeon Quartz coat.
