  1. Hamilton has gone up a bit in my estimation because of this. Not his driving which has always been sublime, but his maturity and decency, which I had questioned previously. Well done Sir Lewis!
  2. Info just out on a crashed MkIII Superb (Reg KT17 DXS) which was not declared & has been badly fixed & is now up for sale at "Carbase" in Weston-Super-Mare. 3. Be honest Colin, you're standing in the pub car park
  4. lovely moon this evening........
  5. Brought myself some Christmas pressies, some bilstein b12 shocks and Eibach springs combo, and some forge goodies for the engine, going to see if I get a chance to do the suspension soon if the weather stays mild, and if the gti brakes clear the alloys
  6. It was never going to change things. I think they saw the light once the dust had settled To be fair to Hamilton, I've always considered him a bit of a pillock, but he has shown great grace and sportsmanship in his handling of the defeat, especially under the circumstances of what happened .

I'd be tempted to swap out the headlights to the correct bulbs and have a look at the rear brakes/handbrake and if you find nothing amis then take it to the local council MOT centre for a second opinion. They don't do repairs so have nothing to gain from failing you.
  8. Were these factory options or dealer fit options? The factory isn’t going to allow unlimited customisation. Some items are dealer fit.
  9. Haha ok I’ll take a pic on sat from the pub car park… although thinking on…. It’s in the photo. At least four I’d happily walk/go to are. Deceptive hills hiding stuff.
  10. Not quite middle of nowhere, but the scenic path back from the post office. I’m so unfit at the moment. Days past I’d go out to beyond the skyline and back for a pub lunch.
  11. If anyone has been near the battery recently, I would check that neither clamp is loose.

You can put that info into your profile details so that it shows on the badge thingy (I've no idea what they're called) at the side of every post. See mine for an example. You might want to think about getting a correct (trickle) charger for your battery for prevention rather than hassle and cure. You want it sorted by the seller but if you have a good multimeter a quick check of the battery posts might bring you to my pet subject on here of low battery - though all or any of what rootoot has put could be the cause or even in addition to a low battery. Good luck.
  13. The driver's window switch one-touch was erratic so I've just replaced the unit. Seems not an uncommon problem but thankfully it is an easy fix. Got a replacement switch from Amazon for €20 which has the added benefit of the the Chrome detailing that mine was lacking, although I had added some AliExpress chrome pieces to the old one. Prize out the window switch trim starting with trim removal tools along the long edge, working your way back to the short edge. Tilt up and out to access wiring. Disconnect both electric switches for mirror and windows, there isn't a huge amount of cable so access is a bit awkward. With the trim removed the switch unit is held in by 6 small tabs on its edges. Use a fork shaped trim removal tool between the switch and the trim and work your way around. With the 6 times released it's simply slide out. At this point I tested the Amazon switch before installation by hooking it up, everything works fine, the only thing is the the rear window lock doesn't light up amber. It just goes on or off. Then popped it back into its trim and installation is the reverse of removal. The new switches have a nice damped feel which the old ones were lacking due to age I suppose.

Have to say, if a car can't cope with all the lights being on, whilst the engine is running, then it probably shouldn't be on the road. That is after all it's default state on the road, which could include them all being on.

Quote.. "The thing is, this garage failed my Roomster for both rear coils snapped/fractured and a ball joint with a damaged sleave. None of that stuff was true. They asked £700 to fix it but I declined and found out after there was nothing wrong with the coils and ball joints". And you still went back to them? Not being funny but I would have not shown them a plastic toy car to inspect! My advise is go elsewhere in future, once you have completed any necessary repairs or even just for a second opinion. If it passes elsewhere, complain to your local trading standards office.
  16. Check to see if battery light comes on when you switch on the ignition. (Key position before starter turns).

Breakdown on the school run! At least it was an easy fix. Walking back to the car with my daughter I was all "What you need to make an engine go is fuel, air and spark..." and she was all "whatever dad your car is rubbish when it breaks."
  19. I'm quite convinced that it's going to outlive all of us. Like a cockroach after a nuclear blast almost.
  20. Never seen a car take so much abuse and keep going. Hit hard enough to break the starter in two, put a new starter on it and it fires up after being sat for over a year like it was nothing. The matrix that replaced the mk1 couldn't hold a candle to it there.
  21. A company like Superskoda would have to manufacture Mk3 headlamp assemblies with LED's in them and go through the approval process (which is costly) and then sell them too us as replacement headlamp assemblies. I would imagine that after factoring in their profit they would be so expensive that none of us would buy them! In the interim, some of the bright white halogens like the Osram Night Breaker are the best we can hope for. I fitted them to mine and they were noticeably brighter and whiter Amazon link to the H7 bulbs here: https://amzn.to/30sXpI7 not a bad price for £19 a pair! Nick
  22. Best bit about living in the middle of nowhere definitely has to be the walks on your doorstep. These photos were taken during the "first" lockdown possibly in or around July. I took these in the lowest resolution possible (640x480) so that I could e-mail them to my Grampa without technological hell. So apologies for that.
  23. This is what I used for mine, it's a giant paper clip
  24. Alloys done and new centre caps fitted, managed to get some genuine Mazda ones, new old stock for £29 each! happy with the results
  25. gonna be mounting my light bar behind the grille . looks good

I'd check the battery before commiting your car to a dealer. Short journeys can be a problem because of the idiotically overcomplex charging system that's too clever for itself. I suggest that you disconnect the BCM (battery control module) sensor and take the car out for a good 20 mile or more fast run. There are plenty of posts on this group regarding the batteries and BCM. The BCM sensor is the little black connection to the negative terminal of the battery. Just release the plug and tuck it out of the way. This will allow the battery to charge to 100% and inhibit start/stop.
  27. Non mapped standard 280, initially ran it on sainsburys 97 octane and averaged 27.5mpg over about 3500 miles. Switched to 99 octane shell v-power or Tesco momentum and saw it increase to 29.5mpg over similar miles. Has recently dropped into the mid 28’s probably because I’ve been using manual mode a bit more and enjoying the power and gears rather than the constant desire for 6th gear that the standard drive mode seems to do. And to answer a previous question, 70 mph is 2500rpm in 6th rising to about 3000 at 80 which is the only downside and probably why the later 272 has the 7 speed
  28. Not given that amount of info... Based on your other posts, you probably have a MIB2 Amundsen...? In which case, try this:
  29. I don't doubt Max's talent, but I think his personality was too fragile until this year. I don't think mentally he could have coped with Hamilton as a teammate. For me, Hamilton had the 'big team ride' throughout his career, quite simply because he was the best. Now he is at the end of his reign and his peak powers will slowly decline, but that doesn't mean he won't win an 8th title. When I look at the whole season and the ability to focus and manage the requirements of mounting a championship bid, I see only two contenders. That is unless one of the other teams produces a mega car that can compensate for any driver shortcoming.
  30. The one that attaches to the wing is a biggie and I will preach it until I'm blue in the face. It used to cause ABS and PAS lights along with cutting power to lights, stereo, and other things. You can remove the clamp and clean it with sandpaper or a nail-file to allow better connection. I'd send a photo of its location but mine is FUBAR because I'm a ham-fisted oaf.
  31. Alternator wire springs to mind, or ABS sensor as you have said. I believe this was covered on an earlier thread.
  32. i would much more worried about stop&start failure than autolock wich i ve for year on many cars and never had any problem !
  33. I Thought you were a Fuel Snob that was making up your mix. So Premium Diesels, Shell, V-Power, BP Ultimate, ESSO Synergy Supreme +.
  34. I have just had my key repaired postal service and I can't recommend this guy enough. My kessy key stopped working so I took it to the main dealer after trying batteries. They said it needed replacing at a cost of 380 quid. I sent it special delivery on Monday to this chap in Wales and 40 quid later and returned today Thursday all working. A decent honest bloke. Give him a go.. I sent a what's app message and he replied straight away. His name is RAF SABIR 07742504123.Hes an ex electronics repair guy and knows his stuff.

My guess, and it is only an unqualified guess would be that they leave an electrical load on as a matter of course so cars with Stop-Start assist don't turn themselves off while they're in the air. You need the engine running to look for leaks in the exhaust system. The other reason they want the car running throughout is to make sure it's warmed up for the emissions test.
  36. So my handbrake had been beginning to go sticky like that stupid soft-touch plastic/rubber composite they put on those MP3 players which resulted in it melting and sticking to anything and everything. To remedy such a thing, I purchased this leather handbrake cover thingy. It matches the gearstick gaiter too! The leather was a wee bit squint but I've fixed that when finishing it off before leaving the car. The car is due a thorough interior clean soon because as you can see, it's absolutely disgusting inside. I may clean it this afternoon.
  37. About 2400rpm. I suspect the 7 speed will be 400rpm or so less than that if the missus's Karoq is anything to go by (realise they aren't that transferable, but its all I have to go on).
  38. Thanks for the reply's lads Well as long as I can still get diesel fuel at the pumps to run the car I'll keep doing it - I was just wondering what the alternative would be once petrol/diesel is gone altogether as there will be older vintage and historic vehicles that people might want to use. I have another 20 years to work so that's 2042 ... After this I'll have free public transport and I'll not give a fiddlers how I get somewhere ... 2050 is the cut off for petrol/diesel so If I can I will keep running until then I spotted that VW are still investing in research and development in diesel so they haven't just given up yet ! https://www.msn.com/en-gb/cars/news/vw-won-t-give-up-on-diesels-tdi-can-now-run-on-paraffinic-fuel/ar-AARRmv1?ocid=entnewsntp&pc=U531
  39. I've refilled with 73.6 litres when the indicated range had just dropped to 0 miles - MY21 2.0 TSI L&K in the UK. Surprised me a bit because I've never got near filling to a tank's labelled capacity in any of my previous cars!
  40. Check ur PR codes...... 0M4 = Fuel Tank (66 L, Standard) 1Z2 = Increase in initial standard fuel filling (plus 10L... or 15L? not sure exactly) If u got both PR codes, then u have the larger fuel tank.
  41. I'm guessing this might be because the album tracks haven't been 'numbered', so are defaulting to playing in alphabetical order. On my USB stick, I have a separate folder for each album, and in each folder I number each track to make sure that songs play in the correct order. So, for example: Folders Beatles - Revolver Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band Beatles - Abbey Road Beatles - Abbey Road 01. Come Together 02. Something 03. Maxwell’s Silver Hammer 04. Oh! Darling 05. Octopus’s Garden etc... I use 'Media Monkey' (https://www.mediamonkey.com/) - a free program to title and order my music tracks and folders and to attach album art. Another, similar, free program is 'MP3tag' (https://www.mp3tag.de/en/) So far, I'm finding that all album art is showing correctly as it should, and also that each music album or track always resumes from where it left off every time I start the car.
  42. I'm not too sure that this post has kept it below the radar but at the moment I'll let the thread run. As you can see though, we do like to play within the law on here. 👮‍♂️
  43. Think they either need to expand their service department, or Skoda need another dealership to be opened nearby. Over 5 week waiting lists for some maintenance is not acceptable in my book, it’s longer than service interval countdown on Skoda cars.
  44. Rattle1. As mentioned above it's the hard plastic sprung boot shocks (awful design), I also found with help on here, Rattle2. Wrap a small amount of fabric duck tape around the D Ring catches for the release bracket of the 60/40 seats , Rattle3. Remove the umbrella or snow brush from their (again bad design) slots in the front doors. My car is now silent.... - other than the rear dong/clunk sound I put down to the rear suspension being a live axile cheap design...unless someone on here has found out what that is (it's been in so often with software that the safety check underneath they do I hope would have noted a major error!) But it's back in tomorrow as it's sent more software error codes to the factory... absolutely shocking build / design
  45. They autounlock in case of an accident.
  46. So an update on the Tesla Model 3 Standard Range plus experience. Several software updates later they have fixed some niggles, broken a few things along the way and then fixed the things they broke. The fix they applied was (among lots of minor things) to finally make spotify sort music in alphabetical order so you can find it and they added playlist functionality, standard stuff on your phone but not in a Tesla until now. Unfortunately the update also disabled all audio output, radio, USB music, streaming you name it none of them worked. That lasted a week until they rushed out another patch. This is the joy of over the air updates. The other thing to report is my first proper long distance trip, Edinburgh to Northampton and back, around 700 miles. And this was easily done. The car is very efficient, much more so than my Nissan Leaf ever was. I set off around 3pm, stopped 2 hours later for some food at Tebay. The car was around 35% charged when I arrived. I plugged in and headed in to the services for food and by the time I had garbbed a delicious lasagna the car was back to 80% and I headed off. By the time I got to Birmingham I was desperate for the loo so again I stopped at a service area with a tesla charger and while I emptied my tank the car refilled itself. I spent 10 minutes watching some netflix wjile it finished and then headed to Northampton. There was a charger at my hotel in Northampton so I refuelled back to around 70% before hitting the sack. The next day there was a charger at our Northampton office so the car refuelled to 90% while I was at work. That afternoon I headed North again. After a couple of hours I had to stop for the loo at Charnock Richard so I put some juice into the car while I was at the loo and picking up a coffee. Then it was back to Tebay, this time for steak pie and chips while the car refuelled just enough to get me back home. So refuelling wise and range wise it was dead easy. In both directions the driver had to stop before the car had to. Bladder range / fatigue range is shorter (in my case at least) than this shortest range tesla. But what about the famed Tesla auto pilot? It has been very erratic in use, I've had quite a few cases where it tries to auto steer "for safety" and veer into the outside lane so for thsi trip I ojnly used adaptive cruise. Tesla owners often report a phenomenon known as phantom braking, typically this is described as the car hesitating as it overtakes trucks, or gets spoked by bridge shadows. I experienced nothing worse than a gentle slowing down as I passed trucks, easily overriden by pressing the accelarator. Bu then it got dark. Once night fell the car freaked out for no obvious reason - on 6 separate occasions it jammed the brakes on, a full on emergency stop would have happened if I'd not stamped on the power. Not a very comfortable driving experience so I switched off cruise and just drove manually. I raised this as a fault with tesla but after they scanned the car they said thwere was nothing wrong and this behaviour is a "feature" of the current software and they say it will get better as they develop it over time. So much as with my previous report, it's a bafflimg mix of the brilliant (range, power and efficiency) and the downright lousy (auto headlights and wipers seem to have a mind of their own and the cruise control is quite possibly possessed). One of these days they will have it up to the standard of my old 2015 Octavia in terms of the tech, but as before there is still no way I would go back to a fossil fuelled car.
