  1. Yesterday I gave the old girl a good wash, applied some paint sealer. This morning I left the house at 5.45am to head to Potters Bar to have a reversing camera fitted and also the traffic sign recognition enabled. Great job by @ApertureS very fast and efficient. Tomorrow I'll be getting all the bugs off the car 🤣🤣
  2. So I used to live near (60miles north of) Helsinki and would drive maybe once a week to the office. When the clocks moved, I would either need lights or not. Back in September, my wife got a new job, so we moved another 300km north. My commute is now 400km. It's difficult to relay how different the roads are here to the UK. Of the 400km down, the first 50km is lit. Then it's darkness all the way until about 25km before Helsinki. There are junctions that are lit, small sections maybe, but most of it is dark. And in October, November, that means *dark*. No snow to reflect light, just damp asphalt that eats it. I'd not realised how bright moonlight can be until a trip a few weeks back. But we're hurtling towards summer again now. It's still not completely dark outside and it's 2130 here. We're a complete 2 months away from the solstice. For the next weeks, when I drive down, it will be light. When I come back up, it might be dark for the last couple of hours - in a month or so, not even then. Then, in July, things will start rapidly getting darker again... Now add in the wildlife: that's the foxes, bunnies, wolves (yes, really), badgers, wolverines, deer and elk that roam the place. You want to see them well ahead of time, and i'm driving during dusk and sunrise, the times they're most active. I would much rather see them than meet them. And to be honest, the traffic levels here.... well, the other week I counted 10 cars coming the other way on the 9 between the motorway south of Kuopio and Suonenjoki. That's about 30kms, so call it 20 minutes of driving. It gets busier closer to Jyväskylä, but it's normally pretty empty. So light becomes *really* important, as you don't want to be caught out with an Elk when it's -26C. This is all road-legal in the EU, the reference is only 45. With 35 from the original lights, we're at 80. 100 is the limit. TL;DR:light is life up here.
  3. Well this was something else.... Not bad for 14 hours work.
  4. Hi All, Below you will find a solution to the handle snapping off from the ski hatch (common Skoda bullpoop for Octavias and Superbs). Mine was quoted 280 GBP for repairs as my 2017 superb was out of warranty. Should take 20-60 mins depending on your DIY experience and . I will post my thought process after the solution to not bore you. Just please, after you have unlocked the ski hatch, instead of pulling on the handle with all your might, push on the arm rest instead to pull the lid away from the seats ! It's a Wonky DIY fix ! SOLUTION - Make your own piston (fixing on a spring): I engineered a piston to pop out into the hole on a spring , securing the handle. I had a bracket intact on the right side, so was just the case of pulling it out to hold the handle there (after lots of messing about) Tools (basic): I had all of my tools in my toolbox (too lazy to go find my cordless drill), scavanged resources as I went: Nail of approx 50-60mm length, strong nail with a small head. Screwdriver , 2 screws approx 50mm long, 1 narrow and 1 wider core (to match or be wider than the nail) OR a drill with a narrow drill bit to accomodate the nail Small (or any really) wallplug which will tightly fit the nail (stop) old or any ballpoint pen spring (worth the sacrifice) tool to cut the spring any tool or screw to pull an existing right fixing (if it is intact, otherwise figure a static fixing yourself) Steps: See video or text below 1. Pull the right handle fixing out of the ski hatch frame with a screwdriver or any other way (hook screw for me). * If you have that broken off, just assess the situation and think which side of the handle you want the spring piston to be attached to. create a static fixing like a screw on the opposite side 2. Drill or screw 3 holes through the left* side of the handle (if your right side is sorted). TRY to align the holes in parallel to the handle face, as I had mine at an angle. Had to mangle a massive hole in the ski hatch frame. 3. Take a spring out of a ballpoint pen and cut it to approx 2-3 cm length. Can always adjust later. 4. Place it on your nail and slide the nail through the holes to see if it pops out after you push it in 5. cut a wall plug with any tool to have approx a 1cm section which will tightly fit the screw 6, place the plug in the large section of the handle and hammer the nail through it to create a brake for the nail, so that it doesnt fly out of the handle (ski hatch has a hollow frame) 7. check if your nail pops out but stays within all 3 holes for stability 8. expand the left hole of the ski hatch with a screwdriver or other tools to fit the head of the nail when it pops out 9. place the handle back into the ski hatch, first matching the right side, then the top ridge, then push the nail into the handle to contract the spring, and finally push the whole handle in 10. check that the nail has popped into the expanded hole, and if it didnt, make the hole bigger 11. Test a couple times if it all works, and enjoy your ski hatch again ! ============== P.S. ======== Sorry if you don't like the track on the video You probably understand my though process now. I thought that it would be nice to have some sort of a springed fixing (piston?) to attach to the handle , then inspected the handle, found a ballpoint pen in my toolbox, thought about a spring , found a nail, spring fit, had an idea. Tried it, worked. You are all welcome! and hope it lasts ! Love my Superb, although disappointed with Skoda for classing this as a Wear and Tear damage on a 4 year old car 😞 GOOD LUCK !

I believe that is a device to prevent water being ingested into the engine; there s no filter inside it. N.B. It is not designed to allow you to drive through deep water, so don't be tempted to do so!
  6. The Rhug Estate and Instavolt have announced an 8 charger hub on the A5 / A494 near Corwen. Groundwork and signage in place, just need the chargers. Apparently be done 'for the end of the easter holidays' https://rhug.co.uk/all-news/rhug-estate-set-to-become-largest-private-provider-of-rapid-electric-vehicle-charging-points-in-wales
  7. Hello Briskodians, I would like to offer a repair service for some types of electric window motor module as fitted to a few Skoda models, as well as one or two VWs. At this stage it applies only to two specific, exact part numbers fitted to the driver's side front door, as follows: 6Y2959802 Fitted to later Mk1 Fabia, from around October 2004. 6Y1959801 Fitted to Very early Mk2 Fabia and Roomster until end of October 2007; as well as 9N3 Polo and a few Transporters. (And some late 9N Polos I have learned). Private Message me a VIN if you'd like me to check whether your car has this part number fitted. (As described a few posts below, either of the above part numbers + suffix A on the end can also be repaired. Also happy to try with units of the subsequent generation, with part numbers 6Q1959801F, G, H, or J.) Note that both of these are driver's side units, the difference in part numbering is due to the orientation/positioning of the motor module on the panels they mount to. These parts suffer a type of intermittent, progressive failure where they 'sometimes work fine, sometimes don't work at all'. Eventually they just completely stop working. This is what I can fix for you. I will test your faulty unit, confirm the problem, repair it to full working order and post it back to you for £59, total. You'd post it to me - less than 1Kg so can be sent for around £4.25 on a tracked24 service purchased online at Royal Mail. I would aim to turn it round within 2 days of receipt, and send it back tracked24. This is the what the part looks like: Central locking via remote will still work in the absence of the window module, so you will be able to secure the car as normal while it is away. Obviously you'll want to ensure that both front windows are fully shut, as in the absence of the driver's side module the passenger side one will not operate. New units are no longer available from Skoda/VW, and ebay 2nd hand ones with these part numbers tend to go for big bucks. I will charge you just £59 including return postage. Cheers, Pete Edit 30/08/25: To get in touch, please click on my username which will take you to my profile, with contact info.

There are many things with the MK4 I dislike, but the one thing that regularly impresses me is the mpg. Ok, I probably drive like an old man, but I can easily get 55-60mpg. Today on a 200 mile trip up the A30 & M5.. 83.6mpg! It's become a bit of a thing now, to beat my record each time! (2 litre diesel)
  9. Mine was the rear hubs breaking up too, 160k miles on the clock. First one side followed shortly after by the other side. Can't help with the readings on the sensor though
  10. Been looking about on other parts of Brisky, seem to have things pointing towards a dying fuel pump relay of some sort. I'm going to get the correct relay from TMS and fit it just to see if that helps it any as it's got progressively worse with it now beginning to cut out or try to stall when running and in motion, making me think it's a fuelling issue of some sort as it's like turning the key to turn the engine off.
  11. Yeah, but it's a UK forum you're in Finland, I'm in Lithuania, the prices will probably vary quite a bit 🤣 The material for sound proofing isn't that expensive so if you DIY it's cheaper. https://www.hifitalo.fi/collections/silent-coat
  12. quote + title make me wonder about head gasket failure. I suggest doing a chemical sniffer test on the coolant.

On many modern cars you can't switch the radio off, you can only mute. On my Edition, pressing the on-screen button mutes the radio but all of the other functions work.
  14. Don't know, @roottoot although I'd suspect not, but fortunately my leasing contract will... 🙂
  15. Thank you very much! Yeah, I'm an electronics engineer by trade. I've been working on cars for the last 25 years as a hobby, and this isn't my first rodeo as far as embedded software and CAN communications go... Just my first time dealing with VAG stuff.
  16. That's very interesting, I'd love to know where the black gunk is coming from, tandem pump oil leak?
  17. That should be everything sorted, at least on the surface. The web hosting folk aren't impressed that I've been uploading such big files for reasons beyond me so I'm currently trying to make sure they don't suspend the account!
  18. Mines been running much better since I put the new one on. I cleaned out my old one though not too long ago, as I was curious if anything was stuck in there. Ran compressed air through it first, barely any air coming through the other port. Sprayed brake clean through it and a lot of black gunk came out of it. Ran compressed air through it again and immediately clear it made a difference. Proper "click" sound when starting and stopping running air through it, and more air going out the other side of it. Chances are I could have gotten away with cleaning my old one, but now I can use it as a spare "just in case"
  19. I got the charge bit right, that’s not too bad considering how long ago we bought it and haven’t thought of the proper name. Will use that on SWMBO’s Jazz as it doesn’t seem to worry a bit about what’s connected to it. 👍
  20. Taxi driving Stylee testing.
  21. Morning... and Happy Easter! All sorted, thanks to a lovely chap called Simon from RAC Motability! The lock is purely mechanical... it just needed turned (to the right) with a bit more force than I was willing to try on it. Simon then opened the bonnet & jump started the car. It ran, but he tested the battery - which I now know is in one of the side compartments in the boot - and unfortunately it had a dead cell... apparently the AGM batteries needed vehicles equipped with a stop/start system are less tolerant of being flattened than trad ones... Happily, he had a new, actually higher spec AGM on his van which he has fitted. I'm going to take iVy (the car's nickname... her predecessor was Octy!) out for a run shortly - she's showing a lot of error codes for various monitoring systems, which Simon thinks may sort themselves out after driving for a bit. Otherwise, I'll take her up to Marshall Skoda on Tues. Have an excellent Easter Sunday, folks! C.
  22. I purchased all new genuine bolts to do this job when the weather picks up and they came to £65 in total. I have my Bilstein B4 and Eibach Pro kit sat in the garage. I also purchased new top mounts and bearings and the Clubsport S rear ARB, also new anti roll bar links front and rear. So a bit of work to do but a lot of fun none the less.
  23. Nope, there is no indication abut the MHEV system usage. It charges on braking and uses the battery when every it can It might have been an issue with engine wanting a longer run to burn some particles. It requires a longer drive with more rpm's. Great that its solved now! Maybe update the topic?
  24. Hello everyone, I've just bought my first ever Skoda, an Octavia TSi vRS 230 in black. Mostly for the massive boot as my wife doesn't like estate cars and virtually no other hatchback can compete. I genuinely no nothing of skodas other than they just to be the butt of playground jokes when I was a kid, but I'm very happy with my new ride and it makes me smile wherever i drive it.
  25. I couldn't agree more... it was exceptionally nice to drive and perfectly suited to the Kodiaq. I only got the vRS because I wanted a vRS... not because I wanted more power (and to be honest, the figures on the finance were actually better for me than on a 1.5 SportLine with lots of options). I'm not going to argue that the power isn't good fun at times, but given my usual journey profile, I use about 2% of the engine's power most of the time.
  26. Hold down the voice recognition button to trigger AA voice recognition (instead of the built in Skoda). When it makes the sound, single click the same button again to cancel. You should be left in AA. This has been the best I can come up with.
  27. ***Finally i have found the solution!!!*** After an update from my dealer on A5(camera) unit from Software version 1030 to 1302(software number 2Q0980653C) and on 5f(multimidia) unit to 1760(software number 654035869D) , adaptive lane assist works perfect! Point of intervation set to ''early setting via menu'' on A5 unit. EnJoy!
  28. Mine makes the same noise. Runs fine when cool but idles lumpy when warm. Squeaky click coming from same part.
  29. Apparently it has a whole 6mm of extra ground clearance! (194mm Vs 188mm). Probably not going to make too much difference going through Rufford Ford 😁
  30. I don't follow your logic there... @PMackley13 said they were going to be paying less each month on the car - surely that means they have more to pay into their pension each month if they want to? 😜
  31. It's a joy for me too. I could drive around all day in Comfort mode and it will still get me about quickly fast and nicely. On inspired days, it grips like a AWD. 🤣
  32. yep. there are options. i have a scorpion sports cat golf r one in mine, with a cupra formentor resonator delete with heimholtz resonator from RPM performance. the cupra formentor seems to have a pretty similar exhaust setup, and all works fine, and passes local emissions etc.
  33. Standard ones AFAIK, I have not changed them. Is about 2-3x brightness, as expected.
  34. How'd you know he was on his way to work? 😁
  35. Just get intouch with "Rustynuts " on this site, he'll sort you out, he did for me.
  36. Different wheels… old chamalot’s for sale!
  37. Multi function wheel in really good condition see attached pictures, collection preferred From york or can meet a way £250 no offers
  38. Just so anyone knows, that is 'brake' & 'braking'. Not trying to police spelling, just trying to help, & i just assumed 'surf' was 'coasting' from the OP.
  39. Many Thanks to Pab for taking the trouble to find info for me. I apparently have a Bolero unit and he gave me an idea on cost of replacement for This and Amundsen units - a lot cheaper than quote. UPDATE ON THIS- I phoned Skoda Customer Services back as gave up waiting and wanted to know if this quote was right. I finally spoke to a Case Manager. I had received the wrong quote on Friday! It wasn’t £5876 but £587.69 to be precise! It’s a huge relief! Now it turns out that they don’t think it’s the radio but the Control Unit at a cost of £652.94 +£218 labour + Vat Totalling £1045.13. A big difference. I got an apology for misinformation on quote but not prepared to offer any good will payment to help with this. At least I know where I stand now and exactly what it is. It’s s shame I couldn’t have this information when i had my car serviced and I discussed the problem with my local dealer. They did check but couldn’t get it working. That was basically it and No written information on problem or likely costs. I have this now which is a good starting point to get the problem sorted. Many Thanks to all who contributed with help - I am new to this site and not v technologically or mechanically minded and have struggled a bit on my own with Skoda, but this site has been very helpful and I didn’t feel alone with it. Thank you for your patience and non judgemental stance too. Again very appreciated. I wouldn’t hesitate using the Forum again and will pass this website on to other Skoda owners in the future. I wish you all a very Happy Easter and Thank you again. Aj
  40. please use the search. this topic has many many many threads and answers.
  41. Not much help then mate! I have had oil and filter change, new plugs, rocker cover gasket and a new flexy pipe fitted all in the last couple of weeks, getting my mojo back now. Plans are afoot and I'm now making a list of things to get and fit hopefully in the next few weeks which will transform the car. If weather is good next weekend I am cleaning the seats and carpets and will give the leather some nourishment. When all mechanical work is done then I'll get it detailed again. Will add pics and updates as and when. Gave it a bath today first time in weeks, wheels are looking shoddy few chips marks and scratches so I now have another dilemma have them refurbed again or use them for winter wheels and get a nice set of 18s and good tyres fitted.... First World problems Thanks Jules
  42. To my surprise I got both tailgate struts replaced under the "All in Service Plan" warranty and a 50k service without having to pay anything at Trans City Skoda, Walthamstow. The current offer worth it and they now have a spring sale on so it costs only £25.50 per month.
  43. Look here from Ross Tech Am sure it will be inside the front door looks like this I would be checking wiring at door loom first Plenty of posts about fixing on here
  44. My Grampa's driveway is where we done mine and we've got a slight downward slope but as long as you've marked the points then you'll be fine. Just hope it doesn't rain and wash the chalk or similar off.
  45. Also, in terms of charging hubs, look out for Osprey expanding their network using Kempower load balancing chargers and the very latest Tritium load balancing chargers to create more hubs. Instavolt are now getting onto that bandwagen, with a full hub at Banbury about to open. Motor Fuel Group (MFG) are building electric forecourts and hubs, gaining a reputation for reliability into the bargain. They already have several in London, one in Birmingham, Manchester, M6 and 3 in Bristol. Shell have opened an electric forecourt in Putney. Gridserve's second electric forecourt, in Norwich is nearing completion and a third one will be built at Gatwick in 2022. There is lots happening in the charging space right now. I expect to see some winners and losers in the coming year.
