  1. OK, the mechanic has just left me after telling me that there was loads of error messages on the car when he did a scan before leaving yesterday, and I explained which I know he was aware of it, that it was perfectly normal for all kinds of error codes after disconnecting the battery 🙄. Perhaps he was setting the scene for something, I don't know, but once he realized that I was not a dumb clueless person, he agreed to take a look. Turned out that he had indeed trapped wire which was shorting to ground, so everything came off again to get at the wire and repair it, now A/C is once again ice cold. Noise also seems to be gone, but I'll find out for sure in a few minutes as I'm going for little spin to do yet more shopping, fingers crossed.
  2. Recently a fella was convicted of a murder on Anglesey in part due to the telematics of his car placing it at the scene. It was found burnt out on the night in question, but the crucial data had been uploaded already. It was a diesel LR product. This has nothing to do with EVs....
  3. @Graham Butcher Points mean prizes, or clicks for the Dude with the Raybans, and a Smart Watch on the Wrist & a phone in the pocket that even knows his heart rate. So nothing new here, other than to him maybe. Years of experience and a nose for a story while working in media, but more a nose for click bait. It has been so for years now with all kinds of vehicles. Manufacturers / Dealers have had demonstrators tracked and how used and functioning. Motorists have been convicted using data from vehicles for a long time. As to 'Snitches', The Mac Master is just a muppet. Insurance Loss Adjusters / Examiners and Police / Accident investigators have ECU,s investigated. Not looking for snitchers, just evidence..
  4. Warm weather and MINI Electric charging to 100 % at home and getting at least 110 miles from full battery is costing me £32 for 350 miles. That is 110 miles from the 6.7 pence a kWh and then public charging fast (slow AC) @47 pence a kWh & twice on Rapids @ 49 pence a kWh. 45 MPG & petrol at 135 pence a litre (£6.14 a gallon) would be 7.7 gallons, £47.25 40 MPG 8.75 gallons = £53.72 200 miles or even better 250 miles from a home charge @ cheap rate would be nice. I would not have a New Chinese built MINI to be getting that as i like how the current car costs me more to run. Maybe for the future a BEV with 350 miles range and being able to do that using 100 kWh of off peak so only £6.70 will be just too sensible to not get.
  5. BBC NewsHow China made electric vehicles mainstreamThe world's second largest economy is both the biggest producer and buyer of EVs. Weirdly the main reason I switched from ICE to EV was also to save money. My monthly diesel bill was around £130 back around 2016 when diesel costed £1. House electricity bill was probably around £30-£50. I remember DD was £80 back then. Now my whole house monthly electricity bill is £40-£80 depending on season, similar to "typical household" despite powering 2 EV's.
  6. Pretty sure it's a torque convertor 4 speed auto. My first suspicion is that it's low on ATF, but after 90k miles it needs new fluid. The bad news is that I'm not clear how to drain it and refill it. You will get all the information you need from Erwin.

First time in an Octavia, but have driven every other TDI going. This is an S (very low) spec and doesn't have many toys. My problem is USB connection. It works fine and music comes through no problem. However, the stick itself gets very hot even after only a few tracks. Can't be normal - or is it? Leaving it out for the mo, in case it spontaneously combusts.
  9. I did it manual way and cost me 30€ Can of car uretter cleaner spray, soak cyl. 1, 2 and 3, let valves complete flow in it. Next day, that soot came off very rasy, with plastic tools and some picks. If you have knowledge to pull out intake mainfold, you will easy finish it.
  10. I’m pretty sure that if your air bag fitted car, be it petrol, diesel, ev or hydrogen was involved in an accident which deployed the airbags then the airbag control module would have recorded the speed, pedal and steering wheel inputs plus various other parameters depending on how advanced it is. The Macmaster guy is sad spinning everything against EVs all cars are going or have already gone that way.
  11. I'm getting an idea now how the overflow/drain plug thing works so hopefully, when I get on it, it'll not need any special tools (that I don't have). If this cures the slow running, after winter we'll pull the sump and replace the filter and refill again. Thank you to everyone for your advice, interest and downloads. It's much appreciated. 👍

Only the original 5 year one, which has now lapsed, but thanks for the information - perhaps the end is not just around the corner.
  13. Have you looked at the workshop manual?
  14. I know it’s not much help, but I looked at complete walnut blasting kits on eBay a a couple of years ago and they were about £300.
  15. Have never come across a general garage thats good with gearboxes especially autos. My old local one was honest when I had problems with my van synchro and said they always just take gearbox out and send it away to a specialist unless its something external or obvious. As for autos the most they would do was change ATF. Alasdair
  16. Yes, all appears to be good, icy cold again and the strange noises I heard have apparently gone as well, so all is good again. One thing he did point out to me is that he thought I had diesel knock and suggested that either get some or do it myself is to re torque the injectors as the copper washer does normally require a slight pinching up after a while as it compresses down. he thinks that should cure my slight diesel knock.
  17. Also @L98 I was going with information from ZF Transmission that you should change ATF about every 4 years or 48_000 miles. I mean what do they know about automatic gearboxes? (other than more than I do)

If you have the Canton upgrade you cannot get the variable floor as the subwoofer sits in the spare tyre, and if you have the spare tyre you cannot have the variable boot floor.
  19. I would imagine the aim is to avoid weight shifting to the wrong point in harsh braking. In the two examples above the critical bar for positioning is the front one. Close to or on the door pillar not on the slope down to the screen. The rear bar position is more variable
  20. I presume you have raised rails rather than the flush rails in the picture. The load will be transferred to the mountings at each end, so it shouldn’t really matter too much, unless you are carrying something which is particularly heavy. The handbook should state the maximum load allowed. With my Halfords roofbox, the mountings are a fixed distance apart, so there isn’t much choice, except a bit of fore and aft movement. When I had a Passat with flush rails, I used to fit the bars fairly close to the B and C pillars.
  21. Go here: MK1 Fabia workshop manuals - SKODA Fabia - BRISKODA Click 'download this file' and a bunch of mk1 Fabia workshop manuals will appear. Download the second one in the list. Is it safe to assume that there are no fault lights showing? Just because some garage says it's gearbox related doesn't necessarily mean it is.

I got mine from SkodaPartsDirect and the part numbers were 5E3075111 for the front and 5E3075101 for the rear. Although they are easy to fit, you might need a right angle adaptor on the drill and probably a short drill bit to avoid removing the wheel because you need to drill the arch and space is restricted with the wheel in place. You can pick up cheap adaptors easily from your favourite online store:
  23. @nta16 Obviously it is not a patch on VCDS but it is better than a lot of the other cheapo scanners in being able to actually write some data and erase codes (like just before an MOT when you suddenly see an Engine Management Unit fault?? :))
  24. I agree with pete. scan it for fault codes first. It could be that its low on ATF or in my case on an old auto the ATF was past it. Should be a nice cherry red. Mine was dirty brown and burnt looking. Changed fluid and back to normal. Alasdair
  25. Scan for fault codes.
  26. Had some joy today, had an auto electrician come round, opened the lock and repaired the loom, everything is working again. Relieved is an understatement!
  27. I had the 94EW pop up a few weeks ago and was told it was in relation to swapping out a part of the cruise control stick. At the time I asked if they had an update to the map and they said no. The dealer emailed today ref the software update for the maps.
  28. Striking Sky this evening...........
  29. Thanks NIgel. Your post at least brings a smile to my face :) PS the Autophix 7610 is not a bad scanner - It has specific modes for VAG cars and Battery recalibration for a new battery (even a change to AGM from the original EFB-whatsit) and it told us correctly that the left-rear wheel sensor had thrown a wobbly.
  30. I'd like to think that the next revision will allow Waze to appear on the cockpit display instead of the inbuilt system maps.
  31. I let my daughter drive it after adding her and her sister on the insurance ahead of an upcoming holiday. This doesn't sound very exciting apart from the fact that the last time she drove a car of mine was on her first driving lesson over 25 years ago where she panicked and crashed my Peugeot into a wall
  32. Hi guys, I agree to re-programme app to keep it running normally after 1.6.2025 and maybe add setting option to saving driving data to a private or alternative server. Something like Synology or small online webstore as Webshare... It looks like Skoda is running out of space on their servers for this app or no willing to continue with support.
  33. Could we find a programmer to reprogram the application and make it free and remove the warning?
  34. mine was in 2 weeks ago to fix the 94EW I asked about the update and they said it wasn't available then :S
