  1. Hi there - bought a 2015 Skoda Octavia Scout last week. Love it so far but am aware there are things I also need to be aware of, so came across here to join up!
  2. Welcome to the forum. That would tend to suggest that the ignition switch is faulty and is not correctly switching everything off when the key is removed.
  3. Yes, Cairus, you were right, it was the missing fuse causing the problems. Really not sure if it was the mechanic's mistake or if it was me fiddling with fuses while trying to fix a non-functioning rear camera. Thanks so much for your help, much appreciated.
  4. It's a great choice. Coming from a focus as well with the wet belt. It's been a dream to drive even at 119k. I replaced timing belt, aux belt and gear box service a couple of weeks after picking it up. Hopefully keeps me going for a while
  5. What is the reason for choosing diesel & 4x4? What will your usage look like in terms of weekly usage? As @thamestrader has already alluded to, an elderly diesel with questionable usage could have all manner of issues just waiting to bit you on the *rse. Also note that the car will be too old to take Skoda's All-in service/warranty when the initial warranty has expired. There's quite a lot of relatively common faults like door locks, electric boot struts, leaking sunroof (if it hasn't been well maintained), fuel flaps, etc. together with the DSG & 4 x 4 system that you ideally would want covered. 19" wheels are prone to damage & many find the ride too compromised on the low profile tyres.
  6. Update on this. Rear donk solved. Bottom droplink bolt on the passenger side wasn't tight (the one bottom right of the 2nd pic). Jacked up the hub so all under load and torqued it up properly. Checked the other side which was ok. As I jacked the hub up and compressed the spring, there was the donk sound but I tried it a couple of times and couldn't see what was moving to make the sound. Did the same after the work was done and silent. Test drive was silent too. Spring looked fine sat in the cup and looked fine under compression so not sure what was up. One thing sorted. Work booked for end of next week - helicoil my dogbone mess, front arb switched to H&R, front topmounts, check the wheel speed sensors then 4wa and hopefully that's it...
  7. I was sitting in the warranty managers office reading Skoda's reply to him with attachments from the ombudsman supporting the VW group's stance. They were recent rejections so VW have probably come up with a more robust "excuse" for not coughing up which the ombudsman now agrees with. Missing inspection reports weren't mentioned, purely the location. If it can be rubbed or collect dirt causing corrosion it's a no. He reconned if it was just the small bubble about a half inch into the panel it would have probably been ok but as you can see a small area where the edge of the rubber filler surround meets the bodywork they've decided it is "edge and fold". As you say it's cobblers. My only real option is the ombudsman which I have started but they quote a 6 month wait before they'll even look at it but it appears they'll side with VW anyway. I may have to bite the bullet and get it sorted myself.
  8. The only relay I can think of is R7 (X-contact), which powers wipers, headlights and other power hungry devices. It's also connected to the BE connector mentioned earlier. But it's driven by the ignition switch, so it can be either the switch or the relay.
  9. I now have a reason for the claim being rejected. It is corrosion caused by "edge and fold" not from the middle of a panel; if corrosion starts inside on a seam or edge it's tough. Sounds like cobblers to me and not specified in the warranty. I have also now discovered this has been the reason quoted to the motoring ombudsman which they have accepted and then rejected customer appeals. Seems Skoda have covered their backsides and have the ombudsman on their side.
  10. From MOT history up until 2022 was doing roughly 10k miles per year, from 2022 yearly mileage is roughly 7k per year, suggesting either a change in circumstances or change of owner. Modern diesels don't like low annual mileages, and the last 4 years between 5k and 8k per year is low, whilst DPF may be OK the EGR valves are prone to clogging with short journeys or low annual mileages, a more likely issue is Ad Blue problems due to crystalisation on the sensors and injector due to low use. Haldex is every 3 years - its nearly due again. more importantly is what were the dates of the previous Haldex services, should have had one in 2021. DSG ask for the oil to be changed and the oil filter to be cleaned - Skoda say every 80k miles - independent specialists advise 40k. Engine oil and filter changes - ideally every 12 months or 10k miles which ever is sooner, consider carefully if the vehicle has been on the Flexible service scheme which extends the intervals to 20k miles or 2 years, so should have had 8 service may only have had 3 or possibly 4. Brake fluid and Coolant should have been changed at least twice if they haven't been done then ask for then to be done. Check the rear tyres for uneven tread wear or an odd wear pattern, assuming the tyres have not been replaced - at around 80K miles the the rear suspension lower arm bushes may have worn - not enough to be an MOT advisory but sufficient to cause uneven tread wear. Cambelt ask for it to be changed along with any other rubber belts (the oil pump is driven by a separate wet belt) , tensioner and water pump if applicable. If they don't want to do this then ask for a warranty to cover the cambelt for the next 50,000 miles. If you are familiar with DSG gearboxes then you will know what it should drive like. If you are not familiar have a really long test drive with lots of stop start traffic, leave the Stop/Start switched ON - even if you don't like it this can expose issues with the DSG. Check Hill Hold and Auto Hold work properly without and with throttle. It should creep smoothly on tickover even up a slight incline in first and reverse.
  11. Try a factory reset of the infotainment & it should prompt you to set up from scratch. It's a PITA though as you'll lose all your setting, including radio stations & stored destinations in the SatNav. As for the secret solution sent to a dealer, I went through this recently for a different issue & the "fix" didn't work. At least it was covered by warranty. I wouldn't entertain writing the blank cheque being suggested to you.

Skoda boss on his way to Volvo. AutocarSkoda boss Klaus Zellmer named as new CEO of Volvo | AutocarVW Group lifer Zellmer will take over from long-serving Hakan Samuelsson by this time next year
  13. If the ignition switch was fully switching off, I think it a little unlikely that an earth (mass) cable issue would be the cause. I suppose a welded-closed relay contact could be the cause if the ignition switch tests out as Ok - but I'd be testing that switch first.
  14. Might be sticking turbo veins. I think they are variable on yours. On my Octavia no flashing coil light but would go into limp mode randomly especially if accelerating hard in 2nd - 4th gear and clear itself after restart. It wasnt a full limp mode just down about 30% on power. No codes stored. I first thought it was veins sticking but I manually operated wastegate first and discovered it was sticking slightly at a certain point. I lubricated and kept manually operating it till it was smooth again and no more limp modes. As there are no codes it might be worth a look at the actuator Alasdair
  15. Skoda Ireland have now stopped fitting new steering racks until a new part is available. We got 2 new fitted. Made noise after a few weeks each time. Pushed harder they gave us a letter saying basically to wait until new part comes along and they will fit it.
  16. Does not matter. There are two warnings - first one is "check the oil level". Usually still about 4 liters of oil in engine block. Second one is "oil level low" or similar. This is something that needs to be addressed to asap. P.S. I use VW longlife 0W 30.
  17. I went to Financial Services Ombudsman Skoda asked me to get an independent engineer at their expense so waiting on engineers report to back to ombudsman to try progress things
  18. The Wind Turbines all around Scotland & also are up in Beauty Spots and so are Pylons like from Beauly to the South and East. (within 1 mile of the Fasned planned site) Many turbines paid to not generate or not to provide electricity to that region. Not enough Battery Storage to take the energy or Hydrogen production plants. The Sub Stations are being blocked in planning and some are started to be built but not being allowed to be extended and are not up and running. NIMBY,s.
  19. 4/ Yes battery swaps The above does sound feasible until you actually stop and think outside the box a bit. 1/ How large would the solar array need to be to top up storage batteries again after a couple of trucks have been recharged? The trucks will not know if the station has sufficient reserves to provide them with a charger, nor will the trucker know how long it has been since the last truck left the charger. 2/ Wind turbines are going to extremely popular and highly desirable in urban locations or beauty spots I don't think. 3/ EV stations may currently be idle for up to 88% of the time in some locations only (there is a large Tesla one near me and everytime I go past it, it always looks like all chargers are in use). As EVs become the more dominant type of motive power, that figure alters rapidly, especially if those who can't charge at home switch to EV power. 4/ Yes, trucks have battery swapping technology, which makes sense as it would keep them where they belong, on the road delivering the goods, but it still means that the hub still demands a huge grid connection so those batteries will be recharged ready for the next truck to roll in, requiring a fresh set of batteries.
  20. 2017, a wish and a bl00dy dream... Nothing but delay and bluster and money available and not spent wisely if even spent on equipment. Plenty spent on Professional Fees and Meetings and planning and contracts. Not on actual equipment and where there is chargers they are 50 kW max and not fit for purpose within a decade.
  21. I am watching this with interest to see just how long this takes to get opened. It will be one of Scotlands most important charging places on the totally hopeless 'Electric A9 Highway' as far as Ultra Rapid charging. Within sight of the many many wind turbines just north of this. & next to the Upgraded Pylons & Transmission route North South. As to this article. Not a MOTORWAY as is obvious by the name A9 not M9.
  22. If they have the alternative solutions then great. Sadly this is the UK and sadly very little if anything is built on time to the budget and fit for purpose and if it is that does not mean there is a competent Local Authority making sure that the rest of the infrastructure is in place. The Future looks bright, but sadly because it is the UK it keeps being in the future............. Flight delays today. Disruption with Air Flight Control. National Air Traffic Services (Nats) Prestwick Centre. That is Air, Rail, Water & Electricity that is pretty crap in the UK, and roads and deliveries dependent on HGV charging for EV,s will be just the same old same old.
  23. The National Grid in England will not be fit for purpose for many a year. And the Transmission Lines due to be passing the New Hub in Forfar on their way south are struggling to get planning approval as are the Sub Stations along the way north and south. Kintore and Tealing. Local Solar and Wind and Battery Storage is a necessity. It is a POSTCODE Lottery, location location location. Just imagine that while these projects and already built facilities struggle to get the required electricity new MEGA / HYPER SCALE DATA CENTRES are built in the region.
  24. Purpose built HGV Charging hubs might well have the appropriate local Battery Storage & not National Grid supplies. You would damn well hope when Developing Low Carbon Hubs. BUT, this marvellous planned hub is only 100 yards from where there is 4 Unreliable Angus Council 50 kW chargers & 6 7 kW AC with 2 out of order for months and 4 22 kW ports that seldom even give 11 kW even with just one car plugged in.

Hey everyone, joining from Ireland. I own a 2004 Octavia Ambiente SE, 1.9 TDI, 5 speed manual. Happy to say that it's my first car and that I passed my driving test in it a few months back. Looking forward to learning more about Skoda.

    Welcome fella 👍
  27. I don't know why you are so amazed by this. I've been saying for some time that the chargers are limited by the total incoming grid connection and supply size. The grid is going to struggle, and if electric trucking ever really takes off with trampers and freelance truckers, they will need to be using public chargers and will be taking ages charging. Unlike the Amazon trucks which will only be going from Amazon warehouse to another Amazon warehouse with their own chargers and will likely be there for many hours before doing the return trip to their home warehouse.
  28. I had similar with the passenger side headlight on my daughter's Citigo and after a close look the only thing I could spot was that run off from the bonnet dripped between it and the wing directly onto the indicator bulb holder. So I took that out and used some silicon grease on its rubber seal, put some strategically placed duct tape over the top of it to the inner wing to redirect drips away from it and also ran a length of PTFE electrical tape over the top of the headlight where the glass meets the plastic body of the light unit. It's been dry with no condensation since. I'm not sure if the Fabia might be similar but it's probably worth a look / try?
  29. The Leon needed a little TLC; it wasn't running smoothly anymore, especially at idle. So, I pulled out the spark plugs and coils to check the combustion pattern... It turned out cylinder 2 looked like it had been wet at some point. I installed four new NGK plugs and coils, and now it runs silky smooth again.
  30. Hopefully it's all sorted soon and u can get back to enjoying the car again.
  31. Yep, good shout. Had watched lots of YouTube vids and was sensitive to that. Rear didn’t need touching as we changed the droplinks in situ. Front were unbolted and kept out the way then bolted back in, in the right holes. I can see the headlights self-level when I start the car so figure they’re working and happy too.
  32. Did u check the leveling sensors on the front LCAs? Usually when u remove or lower the LCA, u need to disconnect the leveling sensors so they don't snap or break. If they do break, or the wrong way round, the suspension (DCC), headlights, ABS and steering will b upset. There r two on each front LCA, and one on the rear left arm. Looks like this...... Rear...
  33. 4wa is booked - couldn’t schedule doing the work and getting the alignment done straight after. Minimal miles so I’m not overly worried about it as it’s a known. But it’s whether there’s a healthy chance that the midalignment would also trigger any or all of these by throwing out ADAS is what I’m curious about. Or whether it’s perhaps a wheel speed sensor as well and it’s multiple causes. ACC doesn’t work, nor does auto main beam (crystal matrix). That with the lane assist and dynamic lighting I could believe is ADAS, but the tyre pressure indicator, ESP, Autohold and hill start assist definitely point to a wheel sensor. Rear traffic alert doesn’t really fit into any of those categories though.

  36. Hello all I sold my 162TSI Skoda and about to pull the trigger on a low km 2016 206TSI Skoda. However it has no physical service history. Just wondering if anyone has access to the ERWIN site and can give me the specs and history on it, if any?
