  1. So, is the S2 worth looking at? Hell yes! Does it have navigation on-board? (with safety-spot stuff?) Yes / with an extra app(here in Ireland) works really well. Even in Ireland. Which says something. You get maps/location and navigation with or without voice Does it have voice-dialling / does it work properly? Yes. Haven't tried it. The voice to text thingie does not understand irish accents that's all I can say. But you're english I presume, and voice dialling is a much simpler thing. You'll have to ask someone else. The actual software looks solid and seems to work What are the problems with S2? Absolutely none, and it's hard as nails and unusually resistant so far. Well ok, you can't use your alarm with the phone switched off. Has anyone got one with Ice-Cream Sandwich on? I have gingerbread, and feel no need to upgrade it. It's lightning fast and not buggy. Haven't heard any ICS feedback tbh What's the real-life battery usage like? Phone calls only? forever. Since you will be playing with it ALL the time...you could look at twice a day, and the gps thingie just eats battery. Normal call usage with internet on, 10 to 12 hours. The actual problem with it is it's impossible to put it down so that the battery tends to go Are there any worthy alternatives? Wouldn't think so. Being Android btw, whatever is not in the phone can just get downloaded. It's powerful enough to correctly display facebook with firefox in desktop mode for example (which is a nightmare as you know) and handles nearly every flash out there except the very latest (like embedded youtube type of stuff, in desktop mode) Everything is lightning fast, there is no lag whatsoever; the camera is really, really good and videos are very decent. I've never owned anything like it and I have no wish to ever change it

  3. I've just finished paying for our house this year, so very happy. I would recommend The ONE account if your serious about early repayments. I repaid our 20 year mortgage in 7 years and saved a small fortune. Back on topic, I made it no secret I was going to a bit extravagant this / next year (see last para for reason why!), my favourite being the GTR. I must admit after reading Richards reasons for selling I am now doubting whether this is the best choice and maybe look at S4/5 even RS6. Not so much purely on cost, but practically it is a very expensive one trick pony, and as a family we only have one car and this is unlikely to change. Just a quicky, Longdog - have you played with the Drive Select yet?

  7. My (better) flying lap. I was working away in there. http://youtu.be/bWVWD5mw7Zg Sorry for: 1. Forgetting to plug the microphone in. 2. Unknowingly setting a jaunty angle. 3. Putting the camera in the back screen, which caused isses with light sensitivity through the windscreen due to the dark interior. Next time I'll set it up and test if before I start, rather than during a quick break in practice! And of course... my moment (no.2) by the pits. Didn't realise I was possibly over 90 degrees at one stage to the track! :peek: http://youtu.be/wLhn-KL_W_A

  11. Yeah definitely the right one dude I double checked the packing and with the seller. I think I've got an upper gearbox mount gone or on its way which caused the extra vibration! Very easy to do, I was going to do a guide but it was raining lol. 4 bolts to remove it, then a hammer and flat blade to persuade the old bush out. I pressed the new bush in by placing a wooden board over the top and standing on it lol

  13. "Yes it's the same for me and everyone else,(except Graham.) " Well for me it is a nuisance and for me it's not an exaggeration. I have to drive with it open all the time. So there are some for whom it gets in the way. But then we're all different shapes and sizes and I'm of normal height and have the seat high and fully back if that makes a difference. Those of a different stature or who have their seat adjusted to a different height or 'front to back travel' clearly find it different for them. I've mentioned it before and the same comments were made and just open the lid to drive and close it when parked (if I remember!). So it's not just you Geoff.

  15. well a did take a trip to B&Q on the way home and the sparkly glitter stuff above is actually just a clear top coat with glitter in. I might be tempted to do plain colour and then use the glittery lacquer to add interest.... ...that didn't stop me purchasing a test can of gold spray paint though. Technically the lid said brass but it was more the colour i was after than the browny "gold leaf" and orangey "anique gold" options. i also bailed on using the primed wheel as i'll have to sand the paint off anyway to finish the prep work so just slapped in on a wiped down bare metal wheel Something so simple should not make a grown man smile so much!!

  16. Although the titanium rims on the black edition are becoming way too common which is sort of annoying. Maybe the RS6 wheels you can get instead would look a bit different and still look awesome.

  17. 2009 Fabia 2 and 2011 Fabia SE no rattles at all. Maybe 15" wheels and standard suspension is the limit of the interior build, most vRS owners with 17" wheels and sports suspension seem to be having issues. Cheers Lee

  19. I think 37 I paid as I added some options. Hill hold is truly amazing and for £65 is a must have option. Start stop is great in traffic. You just need to get used to how much pressure you need to put on the brake pedal to activate it. Only took me a few days. I am 26 by the way. 3 years out of uni. I would highly recommend either as they are essentially the same.

  25. The water pump needs to be changed when the timing belt is changed on these cars as they have a plastic impellor which can break up over time and clog the coolant system. You can check if the water pump has broken by taking the coolant header tank cap off then take the small pipe off the coolant header tank and hold it over the open tank. Let the engine run for a minute or so and if coolant isn't flowing out of the small pipe into the header tank then your water pump impellor isn't working and the coolant is not being circulated round the system. Your temp gauge should go right to the top on the red (110-120) if your coolant is boiling in the header tank. If it's not doing that then you've also got a problem with the coolant temperature sensor.

  27. lol, You make it sound like the tyres were wrong. You have the front worn because of your driving and not changing the tyres front to back at some point. (No idea what pressures you run, or when you checked them). The back tyre sidewall is down to you, done at the same time as wheel scuffing probably. What ever tyres you choose, look after them and they will last ages, or look after them and enjoy them as long as they last. If you go wider, or adding spacers, still check pressures, move tyres and best get wheel, steering alignment done. If you are going to kerb them, then maybe get 7x16" wheels, not 8x17", but still expect to damage tyre sidewalls if you are careless. Just less damage to rims. george

  28. Do you have a boost gauge or VAG-Com or the Torque app for your phone to check what boost it is actually making? peaking at 18-19psi is ok for a stage 1 map and to be honest it will feel very fast if you've only driven a standard VRS before. If it's making 23psi or more then thats running the K03S the turbo at its limits and I'd consider getting a different map... the best maps use fuelling and timing rather than cranking up the boost to get a good peak power figure and a flat torque curve.

  29. If your doing fifty in the middle lane and there is a vehicle doing the same in the inside lane how are you supposed to move over? Speed up and get a fine, slow down and get squashed by the artic that's been 2 inch off your bumper. No, I'll do neither they can just be patient like everyone else.

  34. Keep left if not overtaking. Just because the limit is 50mph instead of 70mph doesn't give you the excuse to sit in lane 3 doing 50mph. Nor is it your job to prevent people speeding. If someone wants to do 60mph+ let them get on with it and move over...

  38. "sort ur facts out"??!!! PMSL!! I So putting a tinted film on your headlights doesn't reduce the light output? Last time I checked, Lamin-x tends to be used on competition / track day cars to protect the lenses from damage or to alter the light colour to comply with specific motorsport regulations. Taken from the website FAQ: The 'tint' or 'coloured' aspect came about when Lemans race teams needed a way to categorise different race car classes while racing at the same time on the same track. You have probably seen many a race car wearing our distinctive Yellow tinted headlight protection film. Maybe not so many wearing our Clear Light protection film...as its so optically clear. Sorry I must have misunderstood - your Octy Estate is a compeition car! I totally get the protective bit but there is no way you can tell me that the tinted films don't reduce the light output. Again taken from the Lamin-x website; "Is your tinted / coloured light protection road legal?" Our coloured/tinted headlamp protection films may not be legal for road use on primary lighting in your country. An off-road use disclosure is hereby declared. Please check your local laws before application if you have concerns. Installation of our tinted protection film on your head lights or fog lamps is done so at your own risk. Our light protection films are manufactured primarily for the motorsport industry. The law/Mot hand book within the UK states that front primary lighting must produce a White or Yellow light. There is no documentation about the colour of the actual lens. Our Clear/SubtleTint/GunSmoke/OpticBlue light protection films all produce a legal natural light colour, and our Yellow produces a Yellow tinted light which is of course perfectly legal within the UK. None of our light protection films change/adjust the beam pattern. Our GunSmoke light protection film can reduce light output in some cases. I think the last line answers the question of reduction of light output. Hey, it's up to you - I'm totally up for protecting the headlights from damage but tinting them? I just don't get the point of reducing the effectivness of your headlights just because it (questionably) "improves the appearance"! BTW: what is your experience with the VentureShield? I'm thinking of doing the front of mine but was wondering how it holds up to normal wear and tear?

  40. Don't keep driving your car if you're boiling the coolant like that, you could warp the cylinder head. Are you losing a lot of coolant? It sounds like the thermostat housing might be leaking (the plastic cover over the top of the thermostat) as that is under the inlet manifold. Also when was the last time you had a cambelt and waterpump change? The waterpump might be broken so the coolant isn't circulating through the radiator, that would cause it to boil after a while. If your coolant is boiling in the header tank then your temperature gauge should be on the red, if it's not on the red then your coolant temperature sender is possibly broken as well.

  41. Sorry no graph but I have an Elite Remaps map on my VRS Mk1, done through a local dealer who was a friend of a friend :- http://www.eliteremaps.com/ I find the map gives a huge grin factor, but is very peaky, and also does surge a little. Worst of all, I have a CEL light on after the remap, and if all other attempts to correct that fail, I will be having the map returned to standard, and will be asking for a refund. The light came on 20 miles (about 4 hours) after the map was done, so it's not conclusive that it is caused by the remap. But all in all, at this point in time, all things considered, I would not recommend this map to fellow Octavia VRS 1.9T owners. :( ....... to be honest, it feels like it's pushing the car a bit too hard, especially on boost. Acceleration in 2nd and 3rd when the boost comes in is obscene, which is nice! .....but this is my daily family car (and only car) so I'm worried about killing my turbo. Hopefully my worries will prove to be unfounded and I'll be glad to eat my hat. (even though I don't own a hat!)

  45. Worth pointing out 90 is at 12 o'clock position or half way on the dial and it should reach it within a few miles easily. It's a cheap fix and a common issue for the 'stat assembly/case and/or the temp sensor to fail. If you're ordering from the dealer get a quote for the 'stat and the body together as the package price isn't much more than either part by itself. If not ECP/GSF/TPS etc are all quite reasonable.

  46. What I can, yes. Unknown to most I used (before my current business) used to run a car garage supplying and fixing vehicles in East London. I started that when I was 21 and ran it for about three years. So while I have no qualifications and am a little behind the times on electronics I do know one end of a spanner from the other. The other issue is time. So I tend to do what I want. Although I quite enjoy tinkering, spending days on end doing something that I could pay to be done with a days work seems a bit of an odd way of doing it. Particularly if it means I get more time with my son who is now nearly three years old. So as it's not a quick build I will do some parts, get help with the bits that will take me ages or I can't do (like welding and engine tweaking) and generally see how I go.
