My dent and chips were fixed today, so the 'Smugline' is once more pristine (until the next little ba***rd opens a door into it :)) Funny holiday story: driving through the tunnel just over the Tamar bridge, 30mph average speed cameras so going at 30mph. Focus ST all over my back end and flashing me. Well, the road goes to national speed limit just out of the tunnel and is dual. He pulled out to overtake but by the time I'd got to the roundabout at the top he was a spec in my mirror... and thats without exceeding 70 much at all. The acceleration is a bit surprising for a family estate car. And I had 4 pushbikes on a rack on the towbar. I wish I'd been able to see his face...4 points

@lol-lol, Constant back tracking, negative doom and gloom and a poor grasp of the subject that you ridicule others over. I must agree with others that you’re a Walter Mitty character, not an exciting one just dull.4 points

Phone call earlier. The bear is in Winchester awaiting PDI, dashcam fitting and valet. Due to my availability, dealers availability and suchlike it's unlikely I will get it until Thursday 26th but nonetheless exciting times!3 points

How do you know what the gov does and doesn't keep a record of? I assure you it's a lot more than you think they do. Luckily they log so much all that happens is that your opentext and voice searches (aye your phone calls are all monitored) are machine scanned for keywords and phrases. If you hit enough triggers they'll pay more attention to you. Some things make of more interest, using Tor for one. Luckily the gov doesn't have enough money to deal with everything it collects and most of it they really don't care about. PC plod doesn't get to know unless you are a really bad character. And also our government is too incompetent to run a conspiracy properly. As well as your own government hoovering up everything it can on you it will be sharing information with the other 5 eyes countries. When it's not sharing the Russians and Chinese will be hoovering whatever data of yours passes through their networks and dipping in to pull out anything of interest. The Russians and Chinese have (I have been told) worked there way through most government and business systems in the UK. Luckily they are usually just snooping and not out to cause damage. And don't fixate on Facebook they are just the most well known data abusers. Google is at it big style, so is Microsoft, Amazon and a million other companies all out to commoditise and sell you. Car companies will be desperate to put more telemetry in your car, so they can track you and use it but sell it too. Just about every app on every phone is out to snaffle data. You might well have an Amazon spy Alexa in your house already, I promise it'll be sniffing more than it is supposed to, 'accidentally'. As will any Google IOT thing. Your Smart Meter is reporting back to base and provides an easy way to cut you off. The genie is out the bottle with this one.3 points

My 2017 Yeti does this. Interestingly, neither of my Roomsters did this. I might mention it to my dealer at the next service in case it's a known "characteristic"2 points

Yes it does, any screen will work, it’s just a case of the ratio. The Amundsen and Bolero MIB2 have a resolution of 480x800 so they will take an 8 inch screen. The FL Amundsen is 8 inches as well, but for the reasons I mention above (matching green light buttons, soft keys and cost/speed of delivery) I am happy with a Columbus screen. I am happy with the Amundsen 6.5 inch tbf, but I really wanted the biggest screen haha Bolero and Amundsen MIB1 have a resolution of 240x400 so you are stuck with a 5.8 inch screen.2 points

I will really mourn the loss of Big Knobs and Buttons for the basic control of temperature, volume and other things that I use often on every journey. Fumbling around on a pretty touch screen is crazy, in a place where we’re not supposed to be distracted from the fundamental chore of actually driving the machine. Maybe one day I will buy some bizarre vehicle simply ‘cos it’s the only one left with buttons and knobs (I’m off to ride my bike now - that’s pretty basic in comparison)2 points

The dealers have his card details memorised he’s there so often. Apparently he has own parking space at some and the God father to the children of many sales men.2 points

When I saw the topic title, before even opening the thread I though "that'll be a VW logo then". I didn't know this but it's a decent guess - the engine covers look the same and from a manufacturing perspective it makes sense to make one design for a large part and modify for other marques. In the end though, what does it matter? Why would you want or need to take the time to peel off a well-adhered badge to make a point? After all, the whole engine is from VW.2 points

I find asking the wife to map read is worse than using "best guess" technology. Many times I look over to see what the hell she's talking about only to find she's got the map upside down because every time we turn a corner she turns the map accordingly...2 points

Recently got ourselves a Karoq, first Skoda for us and we really like it. Replaces a Tiguan for the family moving duties. Anyway for whatever reason the lighter socket on the Karoq is always live which isn't very useful for powering a dashcam. Had a look for a how-to for tapping a switched feed from the fusebox but only found little bits of info here and there so here is my quick guide to how I've done it. Convieniently there is a fuse box right behind the glove box (UK RHD car). Getting to the fuse box was in my opinion the most difficult task! The instruction manual does describe the process but it still took some figuring out. The glovebox is hinged at the bottom, has 2 bump stops (one either side) and a damping arm. The damping arm is removed by first pressing the lowest pivot point of the arm towards the engine, this should free the bottom pivot point and allow the arm to be detatched from the glove box. The 2 bump stops are freed by pressing them away from the glove box, see photo. From there it's pretty straigh foward. I used piggy-back/add a fuse to take a switched feed from fuse 47. For a return I used a ring tag on the T27 torx bolt that holds the fusebox in place, it's not ideal as the fuse box is plastic but I couldn't find anything easier or better that didn't probably involve taking more things apart. Routing the cable to the dashcam was simple, drops easily out the back of the glove/fuse box, behind the rubber seal up the door frame/A pillar and along the top of the headlining/windscreen. Hope this helps others with installing a dashcam. Cheers John1 point

I don't know if anyone saw this, but it was incredibly clever. I've been working on the Games (unfortunately at this end :D) and we discussed this live tv even at length to try and figure out how they did it. The initial 4 and a bit minutes is all in one shot and only at the end is there a mix to a drone shot. There are a couple of slips (literally) but to do it live and in such an imaginative way, is testament to the skill of the choreographers and the director of the piece. You might not like the 'games' or even the City of Birmingham, but you have to applaud their superb handover effort. A genuine genius piece of television. I haven't found a clean You Tube version yet, but here is the video from Birmingham Live. See if you can figure out how they did it Top live video1 point

Wow - is it a car or a child you are waiting for? Hope the 'delivery' goes well for both of you!1 point

Typically I cannot find an image, but that’s most definitely for the D ring on each side to tie loads down with. If you have the net package, you can’t easily use them with the floor up without extra tethering points. They’ll have nice chrome rings on them too1 point

Is it the front or rear calipers sticking? Rears are common and probably quite cheap on eBay for new/reconditioned units. If the fronts are needed replacing you might want to look at doing a 312mm brake upgrade. If you do a search youll see what I mean by that. That is a hell of a lot of money to pay for brakes though.1 point

I'll step in and help just once with this. Q1=Its had all the major things changed that wear-out on a car with this mileage, there is only the turbo but just check it for play! It did burn a very small amount of oil but all the TFSI's do, it never caused me any issues in 4.5 years of ownership. Q2=this is only on a stage 1 so very drivable and if you do find it hops, fit a anti lift kit for £150 but I always found it fine. Insurance will go up a bit and but again its only a stage one so loads of places will insure it. Q3= This is a bit of an odd one as all three cars are completely different! subaru is a beast and a good car but the oldest of the lot and big big bills when it goes wrong! Audi is a nice car but you said it will cost double and also higher repair bills and then the skoda, a good car with high miles but fun to drive, reliable and cheap to buy, it's all personal preferance. Q4= The car already has a newer spec cambus gateway so no battery drain and just a simple plug and play with the columbus, it will also show on the dash as it has a maxidot. Q5= only Jake can answer that.1 point

Don't think it'll be 2.6Psi... your tyres would be flat. Think you meant "bar"1 point

Thanks Skodaboy, I know the bulb fitting is a pain and the dipped lights could be better for a ''modern'' car. I have read some tips on fitting them, used the bulbs as an intro. Didnt know what else to put.1 point

It fits into the door lock mechanism. Chances are the plastic part that holds it into place has cracked or snapped. They are of poor quality tbh and are a swine to refit due to lack of space/maneuverability.1 point

I found Castrol Edge, on special offer at a large Tesco store recently... Not sure if its still available. I paid £24.50 for the requisite 4L bottle. I think the lower spec oil for some Skoda's was £22.50.1 point

I agree - knobs and buttons are much more intuitive. I loved my Saab, which had a total of 72 physical switches! Once you've learned the "geography" of your dash, your hands just do what you want. However ... on a Kodiaq, the temperature (while it CAN be done onscreen) still is done with a big knob, and the volume is done with a physical knob on the steering wheel ... isn't it?1 point

This website explains it a bit more clearly http://www.skodapartsireland.ie/search,i.html?q=karoq The ...111A part number is for cars WITH the black plastic wheelarch. How much are the mudflaps from Listers? It's £45 delivered for both sets from this company in Ireland.1 point

Credit IS still available for those that want it and are happy with the securities, interest and repayments... BUT people are thinking more about what they are getting in to and can afford, as opposed to just blindly borrowing and building up debt. That was what the original article was saying... !!! So it's not just 'back to the good old days'...1 point

I put a bit of a description here: Going through Listers on this site they didn't work out much dearer after shipping was taken into consideration and delivery was a lot quicker, I bought rubber mats as well and it was only a few pounds dearer than ss but was here in 2 days.1 point

Cheers. It's only 3 inches wider to be fair 2 foot longer mind. Thing is, the missus has been on at me that the drive needs doing, but by buying a bigger Skoda she can't see it.1 point
