  4. Just for info, I have a spare Amundsen/RNS-315 unit that has DAB and Bluetooth. If you're looking elsewhere, be aware that Bluetooth and DAB functionality isn't standard on all these units. And I certainly wouldn't be asking £370 or whatever that eBay seller is hoping for I'll be listing it up for sale shortly, when I dig all the bits out of the garage as I have no use for it now. I was going to fit it to the Mk2 Fabia I had before my current Yeti. @Cheekyfork - I'll drop you a message when I do.

  10. Buy yourself something like this: https://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/das-6-pro-dual-action-polisher Watch a few youtube tutorials and have a go yourself. It will only take 8-10+ hrs once and then if you wash it properly throughout the year (two bucket wash, pat dry, don't rub anything unless theres's some form of lubrication such as a quick detailing spray, etc) then you'll minimise any surface defects and keep future polishing and defect removal to a minimum. My approach would be something like this. Not adding loads of detail as it would be a veeeery long post put to give you an idea of the work required. Clean wheels This is the point I'd detail the engine bay if required Snow foam you can add an all purpose cleaner to the solution to help strip any old layers of wax or sealants Wash - Loads of dedicated shampoos on the market. Use two bucket's, one for shampoo and one to rinse mitt. I prefer sheepskin mitts. Those neon colour noodle mitts and sponges are the devils work. Rinse Spray on all purpose cleaner, leave to dwell Rinse Spray on iron fallout remover, leave to dwell. Rinse Clay car. Plenty of lube and a nice soft microfibre to wipe as you go. Bilt Hamber clays only need water and they work well. Clean/dry door shuts and boot Wipe wheels over with soft cloth and a detailing spray. You can use a dedicated wheel seal if you want. Inspect paint. Minor swirls and holograms will likely need a light to medium cut compound/pad. Chemical Guys Hexlogic or Lake County Orange pads are pretty much a safe bet. You can go harder if you need to but start with the least aggressive and access the paint before switching to a firmer pad. Most pad manufacturers produce a colour chart and usage for their pads. Polish car - just search youtube. Chemical Guys have some great video's. You could polish by hand but it's time consuming and you'll tire after a few hours of working in a compound. Sonux SFX Pro applicators are a good choice for hand application. Access paint and once you're happy... Add a layer of protection. You can use a softer polishing pad on a low speed to apply a glaze or similar such as Carlack Complete is my current fave Add a last stage product such as a wax for extra shine and protection. Finish Wax 1000P works very well with the Carlack but Carlack also make a sealant which is great over the top of the Complete. AKA. 'the Carlack twins' Clean glass Dress tyres Roll the car back and forth a few times and work the brakes so your 'glory pics' aren't ruined by rusty disc rotors Black Magic is a great colour to work on but a bit of a pig to maintain. Best to do a full bifta clean and take some pics as 20 mins later it will be dusty again. . Seriously there's some great products you can use on black pearlescent finishes and you can pretty much use natural products to get a really warm, rich shine or some synthetics to get a clinical sharp shine. It will come out a treat if you take the time to prep everything. Or you can just buy some SRP which has loads of fillers which will work (sort of) until you wash the car again.. Take a look on Polished Bliss. Some great advice and info I often rely on: http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/car-care-advice.html

  11. Would you give you something like this.... For context, this was a 6yr old Octy at the time, with about 85k miles. Two previous owners and 'normal' external care - carwashes, bad/careless handwashes etc.

  12. I would strongly advise everyone to perform real brim to brim checks and compare with what the infotainment is telling you. My 1.4tsi infotainment since last refuel 46.3 mpg, actual real brim calc 40.9 mpg a discrepancy of over 13%. Of course for even more precise calcs, the odometer should be checked too. I think that puts those claims of mid 60s mpg into context

  13. I confess I am an ignorant heartless animal hater who deserves to be pilloried for daring to ask how to make my yeti hell hole a little more tolerable for my dog as he slips into death! Version 2 I wanted to know how to improve my cars ventilation safely. you might be pleased to know that I haven't killed him yet as I park in the shade and go back if things change. I might deserve moral outrage but I don't want it I read somewhere about being without sin and throwing the first stone? it is important that these forums are conducted in a civilised non judgemental manner and this is as close to that ideal as I can manage! MarieK does not want to say anything more to me. Good!

  14. I tend to do it when required; this usually meant an annual machine polish, but to a lesser extent than the initial work to get the paint upto standard. You'll always induce slight scratches during wash and care procedures during the year. So it's about taking the paint back, correcting as necessary then re-applying protection again. So that would normally mean a one-stage polish with a final finishing level polish, rather than intensive polish.

  15. You do not need a degree to know that leaving an animal in a car in the heat could lead to a window being smashed to get a distressed animal out. I would not have 2nd thoughts of doing that if I came across that situation and there was no other option available.

  17. There is nothing inherently wrong in veganism, given time and enough people a reduction in the consumption of animal products would drive the market to invest in produce not requiring animal products. Throwing the boots away is maybe a statement from the individual although wasteful. There is an argument that that we as a society consume too many animal products and that it is in fact bad for us and we would all be richer and healthier if we moved away from animal products. There is also the counter argument that steak is tasty, chickens make good curries, leather seats in cars smell nice and cheese is life. https://www.thedailymash.co.uk/news/lifestyle/vegan-birthday-cake-just-made-of-flour-and-sadness-20180222144737 But each to their own

At least the dog in the picture doesn't get left in a roasting hot car in a hot country. Your attitude says it all really, I have nothing more to say to you. But I do pity your dog.

  20. That's the stupidity of veganism.... Already have leather, cow is already bread, sold, slaughtered and skinned. Boots made and sold now, discard them as they are not "Vegan".. So now, the animal dies just to be dumped in a skip, rather then as a somewhat unwilling, organ donor. (Skin is, after all, the body's largest organ). V6TDI, I am not suggesting your daughter is stupid, just the underlying principle of veganism. Probably nothing in the modern world that did not rely on animals, either alive or dead, somewhere along the line!

  21. Explain the physics to the countless dogs that have died as a result of being left in hot cars, even a few minutes is enough to really raise the temperature. You're not being a responsible dog owner, sorry but that's the truth of it. Stop making excuses and make other arrangements for the poor dog....please!!

  22. Dogs die in cars all the time, unfortunately so do babies and small children, shade moves, queues slow down "quick dives" into shops. Cars overheat very quickly and interiors reach very high temperatures, ventilators only allow already hot air to circulate. It takes seconds to slip on a lead and take the dog with you or leave it at home.

  23. That's nothing to do with the VAG DPF app. It's the ECU that decides what units to use, if you were to use VCDS (or any other tool) it would also show in grams for your engine and litres for Harry's and mine. It's not something that can be changed @harryrope - it might be worth posting the log file.

  25. Explain the physics to your dog. I'm sure he's more concerned about it than I am. Then again, if I were stuck in an oven and unable to escape while being cooked, I doubt I'd be overly concerned if someone tried to explain why I was dying. Your "I live in Spain" argument is invalid really, as I doubt your dog understands this either.

  26. Those prices are CRAZY, find a good VAG independant garage near you and get another quote for all the work. The lock units need replacing as does the window regulator. There's a lot of standard service work in your list and I'd ignore the clutch completely until it actually starts slipping. Run away from that garage as fast as you can because any morons that mention the engine management unit in relation to a central locking issue deserve no money whatsoever. It would help if we knew where you are, then you might get a recommendation.

  30. Leaving windows slightly open doesn't keep the interior cool. It allows a little ventilation, nothing else. Dogs don't sweat so they can't self cool by sweating, and keeping them in a hot car will cause them suffering at least, and death at worst. Contemplate this when you next leave your dog in a hot car. Might not be practical to keep your dog out of the car when its hot, but it's more humane.

  31. So how about you wear a fur coat and sit in your car in Southern Spain with the rear windows open a little. Then come back and tell me how 'warm' it was. Clearly you're more interested in the safety of your car than the safety of your dog

  32. I suggest that there are far more caring dog owners on here who know more about Yetis and dogs than you do. Quite obviously you do not and will not listen to them, but will take a very arrogant and uncaring stance. It is a great shame there isn't an ignore facility as personally that is where you belong.

  34. I was a veggie for a few years and regularly eat veg and vegan food. But I like meat too much to give it up. 1) Undoubtedly. She still has the zeal of the converted, but I'm impressed it's a principle she committed to. There's a certain irony that I believe the uppers on her vegan DM's are plastic 2) Couldn't agree more. I had my first goat curry a few weeks ago and it was fantastic. So cheap in fact it'd be almost rude not to.... I suspect that, at 54, delving into the deluded ravings of my teenage daughter would probably be quite injurious to my mental wellbeing. But I could of course just be saying that, and might be sitting here in a dirty flasher mac, slavering and lecherous at the delights that await me Back on to the laptop and I'm afraid the overnight churning didn't have the desired effect. It's trying, gets to 'Starting Windows' but can't quite make it, ends up at a black screen, and waits a few minutes before trying again, ad nauseam. Going to wait for my son to come up with his Windows disk at the weekend to give that a go. If no joy, I'll get an SSD (and will probably do that anyway, now that I'm a veritable expert HD removerer ). Gaz

  35. The UK is not Skint, no way. Job creation. Use of the workers and skills. Get them off the Nuclear Submarine project and the Weapons of war sold to the Friendly Countries the UK sells to that are involved in war crimes, Saudi as an example. There are Border Agency, Naval, Customs and Fishery Protection ships needed, the more Ferries and Fishing Boats. The British Isles being an Island Nation of 4 Nations. It is simple really stop wasting money on useless trophy projects and get the 4 Countries of the UK working and earning and transporting efficiently, and more diplomats involved in getting agreements with the Trading Nations that are required for Importing & Exporting. PS. It was not the Majority of 'The Scots' it was the majority of those with a vote in Scotland that turned out or put in a postal vote. So just like the votes in England was not all from people that are English or even reside in England. You did not even have to be a UK Tax Payer to have a Vote in the Referendum or in any UK Elections.

  36. Were the boats from the UK not 12 nautical miles off the French Coast and fishing where legally they can? France and the UK are in the EU and there have been enough years for France & the UK to agree Closed Seasons and Quota for the Scallops. What was the point of the EU if things like that were not agreed on? There are Quota off the British Isles that are going to be causing issues soon enough. Lots of Boats from EU countries take the pith in the North & irish Seas. Time for the Fisheries Protection to get more Ships Built with Jim McColl at Fergusons Yard. Obviously it will take time & more money but then the UK is out of the EU for a long time. As far as the EU & UK and BREXIT there is lots to be negotiated over the Fisheries in the next few months, but as to the English Channel and this rammy that is for the EU to get involved with now if members of one EU Country are taking illegal actions in International Waters against members of another EU Country. http://bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-43319132

  43. Pet hate of mine.... I always shoot at 50mm (35mm) focal length for pano…& set the camera up on the tripod on the nodal point (I've seen utube vids of experts do a pano on a ball/socket head in portrait mode with the camera "arc" around the head for a big pano…. WTF way off the nodal point")....this gets most perspective distortion out which makes the computer stitching way better......I still go over & hand blend/spot heal/clone etc to totally eliminate the stitching etc even down at a pixel level.... This pano was done before noon & on a very hot day & yes the air was "red"....its sooo clean the air up here that you really see the seasonal & temperature differences with the naked eye & you really have to watch the WB on the cameras as its very tricky to get it 100% natural & correct as it was visible to the naked eye at the moment the picture was taken....oh & the sea is that turquoise....& lovely to swim in..just a bit cold, but after 45mins & 1.7km in just Speedos I call it quits...lol

  44. Do you have a screen shot of the figures once the DPF regen finishes? My 1.6 starts regen at 88% and will burn off continuously, if uninterrupted, until it drops to about 5g of soot (which I think is about 20-25%). It would only reach 95%+ if I stuck with slow town driving all the time, and by then the DPF light on the dash would come on. Maybe yours isn't getting a full regen which would trigger shorter distances between? Although I see sense in the point above that as the oil ash increases the DPF will regen more frequently due to less capacity. For info, I have 80k on the clock and the normal mileage between regens is about 420-440 miles.

  45. Sorry, but I just can't resist, I know a good joke regarding this ... There was a lady sitting in a crowded restaurant, waiting for her date to arrive. All of a sudden, without any warning, she let one go (farted) ... She felt very embarrassed as she started to notice the stares of people sitting around her, so she immediately stopped a waiter that was, by chance, standing right next to her when the incident happened and told him: "Stop that!" ... and he replied: "Lady, which way is it heading?"
