What do these foam inserts under the bonnet do?
They are to help form a seal between the engine compartment and the cabin air intake grille just in front of the wiper arms.

My Octavia and gremlins
@Poremetej I checked the operation of the high beams in my Octavia - with lights switched to auto mode, the first push forward of the stalk sets the system to auto HB if lighting conditions permit (with a small white icon displayed in the instrument cluster) The second press forward switches to HB with the blue icon displayed. The white icon is pretty easy to miss - I've never noticed it before.

SOLD: Anyone after an MX-5? (or knows someone who is!) - Upgraded MX-5 NC2 2.0 185BHP, £6450.
Hi @Wardy Nice car - now if that had been a MR2 I might have been tempted 😁

Brake failure at 90mph.
What a surprise.

Slowly reversing up slight incline - crunch and dashboard error
Hello, what you experienced was manoeuvre braking - your rear sensors detected something that the system thought your vehicle was about to collide with (quite possibly the slope itself)

Emergency Autonomous Braking
AEB became mandatory in most vehicles produced for EU after May 2022.

My Octavia and gremlins
Hello, welcome to the forum. Have you tried pushing the stalk forward twice? On my Octavia, high beam requires two pushes of the stalk in 'Auto' mode - I assume this is to override the automatic function.
-
Emergency Autonomous Braking
@Aspman AEB usually only operates above a certain minimum speed.

Locking wheel nut and bolt
If you did want to fit new wheel locking bolts, there are more robust-looking, aftermarket versions available.

About to embark on Skoda ownership, Superb L&K Estate
Did you include the 20p credit for the find under the seat?😆

mpg in town too low?
Take a careful note when you next fill up with fuel - full tank to tank reading is the only accurate gauge for fuel economy.
-
mpg in town too low?
Welcome to the forum. I think your current high fuel consumption will be due to your very short trips - 1-4 miles per day will mean that most of your mileage is with a cold engine, the fuel injection set 'rich' and cabin heating struggling to get to requested temperature.

Battery on the blink already?
Yes, apparently so if you want to disable the smart charging function. Personally I have left mine connected to allow use of regenerative charging when it is available. What the sensor lead does is to restrict battery charging from the smart alternator to around 75% - allowing head space in the battery capacity for regenerative charging during throttle-off overrun and braking.
-
Battery on the blink already?
The sensor lead is a small plug-in tag attached to the negative battery terminal.

Gear stick intermittently stuck in 1st and 2nd position
Hello, welcome to the forum. Does this problem happen only when changing from 1st to 2nd gear - or does it also happen in other gears too? Is there ever any issue in selecting 1st gear from neutral when stationary - or do the gears 'crunch' when you do that? If so, I'd suspect a clutch problem - air in hydraulic system, leaking slave or master cylinder or contaminated clutch pressure plate/lining.

Is my garage lying to me ?
@TerenceWallis Live data is obtained via the vehicles OBD port when a reader is plugged into it - it gives precise, real time information on all data from the vehicles various processor units.

Scala battery type
Especially if coming from Main Dealer - or Halfrauds.

Cold start rattling noise
Does the 2.0 TDI not have a timing chain? - that's what it sounds like to me.
-
Scala battery type
My Ring RSC charger has only two settings for battery type - standard or AGM/EFB - the 8 year old EFB in my Octavia has suffered no apparent ill effects from using the AGM mode. My understanding is that both EFB and AGM use very similar, if not identical, charging voltage profiles. Regarding charging at very low ambient temperatures - the Ring charger has a dedicated setting for this - again, no apparent issues when I've used this.

MIB3 Update OTA 0330
Maybe it's going to Alpha Centauri at warp 9 for the update.😄

Locking wheel nut and bolt
There should be a letter code stamped or embossed on the hexagon end - otherwise there are online vendors who can identify correct adaptor from a picture. Another (probably most expensive) option is to ask your nearest dealer workshop to identify and supply a replacement.

Coolant Temperature Sensor
The sensor on the expansion tank is for the coolant level.

Engine head problem
Assuming that the cam lobes are in fact separate from the camshaft, (and shrunk onto it) I think if would take an extraordinary amount of lateral force to force them to rotate on the shaft, more likely to break the camshaft. Does anyone know if the cams are actually manufactured this way - or is the dealer referring to the variable cam timing mechanism?

Sat nav sd card
There are often different options for the various trim levels - Sat Nav may not have been standard, but added as an option. I find it odd that the navigation button is present if that unit doesn't have it.

DSG gearbox repair price
I did wonder when I found it - it sounds more like a throttle body reset if it's real.
