  1. OK, for the thickie. If the OP's car is not plated for towing, it is illegal to do so, and fitting a towbar is a waste of time and money, and a possible driving ban if you're caught towing with it.
  2. You're still omitting the load index and speed rating , which are pretty vital here. As a generalisation you can not fit a lower load index than factory ( @xman indicates 94 was standard).
  3. The question is not "is this mechanically possible?" but "is this model plated for towing?"
  4. No and don't know since you've omitted all information about the tyres except that they're "eXtreme Load" version.
  5. Easy answer - butter his paws to stop him running away, as per Thelwell's Magnificat!
  6. Great if you don't want to take any tack, feed or bedding in the trailer.
  7. Try using a lock lubricant or a dismantling lubricant rather than Water Dispersant Formula 40?
  8. The EV Operators' Bromance Thread?
  9. In a standard wb Superb estate, the 3rd row of seats would be in the rear crumple zone; the CX Familaile has an extended wheelbase even relative to the CX Pallas, which brings the 3rd row of seats inside the wheelbase, and leaves some luggage space behind them.
  10. For a tug I'd actually suggest a Kodiak, but make sure it at least has towbar preparation if not a factory bar. Less serious suggestion would be a Toyota "Technical", preferably with a pedestal mounted Browning 0.50 calibre on the bed.
  11. Has the new battery been "coded in" to the car so that systems know it's a new battery and not the old Varta?
  12. Well, at least the snake oil is clearly doing something this time.
  13. Well it sounds to me like an issue with the hydraulics (not judging on master/slave from an internet post). Either way it's covered by warranty to age and even after that by Sale of Goods Acts if the car's only done 18_000 miles.
  14. @rares Given the recent rebuilt, my first thoughts are of a seized or broken piston ring, probably an oil control ring.
  15. @Tien As @Austin 7 implies (but doesn't actually say) VAG cars have a track record of generating multiple spurious fault messages when system voltage is low. In this case you have one that clearly appears spurious (because it refers to overheating on a cold transmission), but if it is deleted and recurs on next start, then you do have some sort of problem.
  16. It's a diesel; valve(s) will have contacted piston(s). An inspection will be needed to determine the extent of the damage.
  17. Only if the tapping for the threads on the new arms starts at the same azimuth angle as that on the old ones. I give you roughly 1/360 that this will be the case.
  18. That suggests an engine sensor issue to me; the instrument cluster only receives data from the Engine Management Unit (EMU). Your best way of checking this is to find someone honest who can use a diagnostic computer, preferably a VAG compatible one such as VCDS or OBD II.
  19. Someone who does not have a track record for misrepresenting the facts; I have seen "80% remaining" turn into "80% worn" between the mechanic's job sheet and the job invoice.
  20. @Mart160plus @Schtum - As a generalisation I would expect genuine VAG 16" wheels of the correct offset to fit over 312mm discs.
  21. Exactly why? The system is called "cruise control", not "automatic hand braking".
  22. Er, that's what it's there for! As @varaderoguy says, with the added note that I use a keyboard vacuum powered by 2xAA cells (also for cleaning keyboards, PC vent grilles...)
  23. It would bug the H*11 out of me, not because the view doesn't do it, but because there is no sign of road workers to be protected!
  24. You might want to check the performance on this one is up to snuff, because the MoD used to be notorious for getting detuned engines "to save fuel".
