Too many people buying low CO2 cars meant the Governments 'take' on Road Tax fell a lot, so they decided they needed to change to system so there's no longer any incentive to run a low CO2 car. My 2015 Octavia (119g/km) is £30, my (now gone) 2008 C1 (109g/km) was £20 but it's replacement 2020 Aygo (99g/km) will be £155!

The Skoda Update Portal does still show maps for the MIB1 Amundsen if you enter a VIN - but it's the 2020/21 map from June 2020 not the expected 2021 map from November 2020. I've used the VW file (and can confirm that it is 100% identical to the Skoda map) but the VW website is also only offering the 2020/21 map from June 2020 - yes it says it been updated in November but it's lying (I've done a 100% comparison with the June map and it's identical). So it seems the three year or five year limit is unproven? I'll have to hassle Skoda UK AGAIN

@CJJEdo you have a link that confirms that the download free updates is only for 5 years? I ask because neither the Skoda nor VW map download sites have updates for MIB1 Amundsen maps and the MIB1 Amundsen was last fitted to cars built in May 2015. Skoda UK haven't bothered to reply to my email asking why the usual 6 monthly update didn' t happen in week 45 of 2020...

A Recall is forced on a manufacturer by the relevant country authorities for a serious road safety issue; but Skoda UK, dealers and owners often incorrectly call a Service Campaign a 'Recall'. What is happening at the moment are 'only' Service Campaigns not Recalls.

Then go to the VW map update site https://app-connect.volkswagen.com/mapupdates/car/ , and select 'Golf until 2015' followed by 'Discover Media' then download the Europe maps - they are 100% identical to the Skoda maps (yes I have done a 100% byte for byte comparison).

Yes, both MIB1 and MIB2 Amundsen will only read maps off a genuine Skoda SD card - there are usually plenty on eBay (I've got mine off eBay). It doesn't matter if you get the 5E0 prefix card or the 5L0 prefix card, the MIB1 Amundsen will work with both (I alternate between a 5E0 and a 5L0 card). And the suffix doesn't matter because you can download the latest maps from the Skoda Update Portal by entering your VIN. Currently there are 31 Skoda SD cards on the UK eBay...

In as many cases as possible the VCDS guys use the message from the VAG module (translating if necessary) so I think the finger for this piece of gibberish most likely should be pointed at the VAG software guys.

See how the icon is different? The USB pens are treated as a removable hard drive but the SD card isn't - maybe this is the problem?

I've replaced my door warning lights with LED ones, no coding no errors - if you look in the Leuchte channels there is no channel for the interior lights apart from the ambient lighting on FL Octavias.

ALL versions of Ross-Tech cables are licensed for the English version of VCDS, but to use a non-English version of VCDS you must buy the cable from the distributor in the relevant country. So if you buy the cable from the French distributor you can install and use both French and English VCDS, but if you buy the cable from e.g. the UK distributor or Ross-Tech direct then it's only licensed for the English VCDS.

Isn't that an Octavia III part number, not an Octavia IV? I thought the Octavia IV was an NX3 (saloon/sedan) or NX5 (estate/combi)?

If your TV has either a 3.5mm audio jack input or a pair of RCA connectors as an audio input then it may be possible to as well as the VGA lead for video use a 3.5mm lead plugged into the headphone output on the PC into those inputs on the TV. A read of the TV manual is a must to determine which audio inputs are live when switched to the VGA video input.

I agree, I couldn't persuade my then local dealer who I bought the car from to do an infotainment update and ended up doing it with help from this website - at least you could do that on an Amundsen MIB1!
